I was absolutely disgusted when I realized that it was going to be a Conservative majority. Seriously, who would vote for them? :S

I voted for the first time yesterday and am proud to be NDP. :) So glad they are the opposition now! And I'm thrilled that Elizabeth May got a seat! We need someone to keep Harper in line when it comes to the environment; if not, we're not even going to have a country to live in.

I agree with that. But on the other hand I don't like the way that non-Buddhist missionaries are not allowed, but Buddhist are. Looks like a monopoly to me. I'd rather it be allowed, but open to criticism and debate, rather than ban them. I'm not for censorship of things that don't infringe upon others. Coercing someone into religion is not good, but allowing one religion a monopoly on it seems a little strange to me, if they see missionaries as bad.

Anti-proselytic was a misleading construction of me, I reckon.

Buddhism has nothing to do with the idea of proselytism. It has developed beyond that. Buddhism is much more a science of how to gain clarity and logic than a religion in the common sense.

The Dalai stresses the fact that Westerners shouldn't leave behind where they come from religiously and go crazy and convert to Buddhism. Because it doesn't make sense.

It's all about: can you and do you want to be a good, empathic person or not. That's all. And since Buddhists have their Karma thing ( which I see a bit critical, but that's another story), they believe that it's your Karma if you can or want to be good or not. And they respect that Karma of yours, because that's simply who you are atm.

Oha, hope I make sense?

Btw, I cannot speak for the Bhutanese handling of Bhuddism. some things on the german wiki-site about Bhutan do indeed have a very dodgy smell to them.

you Lucky. I just heard, and Dalai Lama emanates from him so much peace, happy, love and respect for each person.

So this madness world, it lacks the freedom to speak and be ourselves.

people do not like things simple, and it's a disaster. everybody wants to be right. but anyway, not many people understood the fundamental human right.

is the respect and empathy not exist much in the world

He really doesn't emanate more love and respect though than some other good old men and women that I met all over the world. Just there aren't enough people striving for that kind of warmth.

I fully agree with what you mourn about here! :)

Ah yes, I wasn't saying this was a Buddhist thing, just explaining why I felt uneasy about Bhutan, as nice as it sounds.

I can see the appeal of Buddhism but there are always things that let it down in my eyes, and the effects you can get I am sure (though I have no first hand experience) can be achieved without belief. Believing that the Dalai Lama is the rebirth of Avalokiteśvara is very odd to me, and how anybody can make claims of being the rebirth of anything makes me question just how humble they actually are. He inherited government control which is dodgy. He also views oral, manual and anal sex as unacceptable (which is his own prerogative, but when someone like that simply inherits power and becomes the figurehead for the whole religion, it can only lead to repression). He seems to be fighting some form of battle with his sexual organs, and other organs, as can be seen when he said this "A sexual act is deemed proper when the couples use the organs intended for sexual intercourse and nothing else....Homosexuality, whether it is between men or between women, is not improper in itself. What is improper is the use of organs already defined as inappropriate for sexual contact."

I think there will be much to learn from Buddhism, but I also feel these things can be learned without embracing it.

Okay Canada, let's relocate to Bhutan and leave the government behind.

Should I siggy this? :surprised:

Sup.

Norway is a nice place to live, even though it can be quite expensive sometimes.

Hear hear!

Hi! Do you happen to know, how your parliament is put together at the moment?

Too lazy to google it, you know...

(If I may)

There's an election coming up soon where the right wing are expected to move forward big :\ As of now the left have the majority.

Well, it's full of crazy, really. But for me it was easier to strip Buddhist teachings bare of the clutter, than lets say of Christianity, which I was born into.

B. exposed me to some concepts about the texture of the human mind which I found extremely liberating. But I never had the wish to call myself a Buddhist, because, like, who the effie cares, it's just a word.

Yep, this stuff makes it impossible to follow! But that's the cultural side of tibetan B, it's what they put on top of it. The normal Tibetan surely mixes all that up, but I never experienced any of them being fascist about it. I have no idea how the historical Buddha interpreted sexuality, that would be interesting so to judge the value of his teachings.

Haha, when I read your text about what the Dalai Lama says about sexuality ( oh gosh, poor mistreated organs :wink3: ), I wondered if he has ever tossed off ( impossible, since hands are not sexual organs?), uuh being a monk....

Well, he was born into this shit, just as much as Elisabeth R was born into hers. Difficult lifes!

Sure, that's what I did.

Of course you may, thank you Sir!

So Norway seems to follow the general european trend? But I hope it'll be a center- right majority, not a far right one?

This is what's happening in a pinch:

Far from being the "Progressive" Conservatives of the 1900s. A totally different beast.

The full G8/G20 funding inquiry and Afghan detainee documents are expected to be released in the next month or two (if Harpie doesn't try to stop them in the first place). If they're just as bad as they seem, expect civil disobedience in the masses. It won't look good.

> Sounds like Canada has gone down the unfortunate path the U.S. has gone down, and with similar results. It's almost as though George Orwell's world is becoming a reality.. I had always admired Canada's honest stance, especially towards the environment, and now that's slipping into the abyss...

Where will it all end? It seems like these giant global corporations are at the root of so much that's wrong in the world, and putting the beast back in it's place will take a great deal of work. I just never imagined this would happen..

There is no safe place to go to, if we don't check the tide of corruption in North America - because what happens here will become a tsunami wave when it reaches other countries.

Of course you may, thank you Sir!

Yes, though our far right party is a lot less extreme than those of Denmark, Sweden and Finland. Finland's political map had to be redesigned after the election a few weeks ago to make room for theirs :( Sweden's is greatly opposed in Sweden.

At the moment our parliament looks like this:

Mandatfordeling_stortingsvalget_2009.svg

Dark red being the socialists, red Labour, green the Center, yellow the Christian party, blue the Right, and dark blue the far right. Currently Labour hold office.

Damn, even after all of the bad things, I just have to like him.

French.

(Waits to be corrected...)

I just couldn't let you be let down.

always feel a bit sick when i hear/see people complaining about living in a developed country. it's sad that people don't know how good they have it.

That's still no reason to put up with bad things.

But I take your point.

edit: Unless you're talking about him, and then ignore me. Presumed you were talking about people in Canada moaning about the elections. I'm sure you're not haha.
