Coldplay have released an EP as follow up to their 2nd album / potential segue into their 3rd LP, which is set to come out "in the next year or two."

The four song EP, Warning Sign, includes four piano based songs that the band say were, at one point, supposed to be included on the band's second album. Says Jonny Buckland, the band's guitarist, "Chris [Martin] had this brilliant idea of separating Major Minus into two parts. The first part being more of a rock album, the second part more of a laid back softer album. We had sort of an X album and a Y album, these two variables that when put together made this great record, but we were never really able to finish it that way. You can still hear that same kind of idea at the end of Violet Hill, with that soft piano part, as that was supposed to be the turning point of the album, originally. So we still had these demos lying around, and we really wanted everyone to hear them, so here they are."

When Jonny abruptly left the room "I smell someone baking a cake," he said, Chris Martin had this to say, "We were really proud of these songs that we put together, and we thought that some of them might be able to be played live. We really liked the look of this EP."

The band were in the studio for a few weeks to finish these songs, and record and polish some demos that were recorded on their last tour.

There are two hints in this post that can help you figure out the direction of the third album.

Coldplay have announced their third album (title unknown) to be released in five weeks, on March 14.

The band have also released the lead single for their third album, called "White Shadows." The single release marks the start of new era for the band (a more 'space-y' sound) as well as the return of b-sides. The White Shadows single features b-sides titled "What If" & "Speed Of Sound." Here is the single's artwork (the band said the full album's artwork will be similar).

Five weeks from now (hopefully sooner) we will all know the title of the record, & lead singer Chris Martin says a second single will be released on March 14th, and that the band will start touring in mid May, with a headliner spot in Glastonbury and several other festivals on the schedule.

Coldplay have released their second single from the their third LP (we'll get to the album later). The single, titled Politik, is on the second half of the 12 song record. It's a sometimes-quiet, sometimes-rocking-out track that ends with an enormous amount of energy and emotion. The single includes the b-side Clocks which the band said was the last song cut from the record and could definitely be played live.

LP3 finally has name as it wasn't released to the public until today.....Square One. The 12 song album, is full of strings, synth, and spacey / futuristic lyrics. It has a very "year 3000 / supercomputer" look to it, which partly comes from the song Talk, and its sample of Computer Love by Kraftwerk.

Coldplay have released their third single from Square One. Moving To Mars, is exactly what the title makes it seem like: a spacey song most likely inspired by Space Oddity by David Bowie. The single's b-side, 42 (yes a reference to A Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy), is pretty much a more rock-ish version of the single.

Coldplay have released their fourth and final single from Square One. The single, Talk, is accompanied by the b-side The Hardest Part. Both are two of the 'pop-ier' songs of this era of Coldplay songs.

At least two members of the band confirmed the rumor that you won't be seeing much of them in the public eye over the next year or two.

Said Chris Martin, "Right now we're evaluating where we want to go, how big of a step we want to take with our fourth record. We have a few directions we feel like we can take the next album and be comfortable and excited about it."

Said Guy Berryman, "Our tour wraps up at the end of March and then we're going to take some time off. We probably won't even go into the studio to do any serious recording until this time next year, at the very earliest."

What direction do you want to see Coldplay go? (Though I already know what LP4 is - artwork, title, tracklisting, and singles - any guesses?)

I have absolutely no idea. But I know it'll be cool! Um, could you re upload the tracklisting for Such a Rush again? It dosent appear to be there anymore.

I re-entered the link, it should be fine now. I have no idea why it wasn't showing up.

Coldplay is in the studio finishing they're 4th full length album, and perhaps a rumored EP will come out of these sessions too, as the band stated that they want to release something in the coming months (at the end of this year ot the beginning of next year).

One thing to note is that rapper Jay-Z was recently seen leaving Coldplay's London recording studio, so perhaps a collaboration is in the works.

Drummer Will Champion said the band hopes to have a finalized release in the next few weeks.

On a rumored EP Chris Martin said, "We've got kind of an intro project we're working on for the new album. So take that for what it's worth.....EP? Maybe. Double Album? Maybe not. But we've got a lot of songs we're happy with and we want to release them in some form. How these songs end up when they're finished will sort of determine which ones make the record, how they fit and so on. We've to names for the final collections of music that will be released. One is just one word, and the other is three words. As usual, they are song titles."

Are you going to show us the first LP4 single soon? This is a great thread!

A preview to Coldplay's fourth LP is being released today. Lost, is a 4 song EP that deviates from the "Space-age" sound the band had on Square One, but still keeps that upbeat sound, in a more major key than any of the band's previous work.

There is a track titled "Lost+" on the EP, but no sign of any song just titled "Lost." The song features rapper Jay-Z who has become close friends with Chris Martin after working with him on one of his records. "Life In Technicolor" opens the EP and then fades into "Charlie Brown" seamlessly.

All of these songs could end up being played live, especially at the band's recently announced Glastonbury headlining gig at the end of June, which is about ten days before the band are set to release their fourth album, the title of which will be kept a secret as long as possible. Will Champion said they are working on adding the finishing touches to their record and then learning how to play the songs live, some of which will hopefully be part of their Glastonbury setlist.

Although no songs are official singles, Charlie Brown has been picked up by some radio stations and getting frequent play over the airwaves.

With the title of their fourth album still unknown to the public, Coldplay have released the album's first single today: Glass Of Water. A more rock-ish, colorful song (you can tell by the single's artwork below which features the lyrics painted in a colored theme in the background, with the song's title painted over it in white), the single will set the tone for a new era of Coldplay music, one that should thrust them back into the national spotlight after basically absent for two years. While they still won't spill the beans on new record's name or tracklisting, they did say a few things to the press this afternoon:

- Glass Of Water will be the third track on the album.

- There will be another single released the week of their Glastonbury gig.

- The artwork in this era is themed just like the past two records.

- The plan is to release more singles from this album than any other Coldplay album before.

The single features two b-sides: Death And All His Friends & Strawberry Swing.

Coldplay are slowly revealing their album tracklisting over the internet, releasing a picture every few days (a few every day on here) with a new song revealed (and the rest blurred out). Now that we know Glass Of Water, here's what the back cover of the album will look like:

Think you can guess what other songs are on it, and where?

Hurts like heaven

Lost

Glass Of Water

Life In Technicolor

Don't Let It Break Your Heart

Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall

Is In My Place the 9th?

Edit: Teardrop is misspelled ;)

Ah Flip!

It will be corrected on the actual album cover! I've already made these blurred out ones haha.

In My Place is a good guess, but anything on the Lost EP won't be on here.
