Coldplay in an Alternate Universe

Featured Replies

I came up with this idea last fall while in class, an Alternate Coldplay Universe, where they still wrote every song the did here, but they were grouped differently, according to how they sounded (piano songs grouped together, mainly-guitar songs grouped together, etc.) and that's how they were released as albums. I thought maybe this could help us in the wait for LP5. As we 'travel back in time' and watch the band's music unfold a little differently. Is the idea pointless? Of course it is! Are we anxious Coldplay fans needing something to do? Of course we are! Some might think this 'series' is kinda dumb, but I wanted to see if anyone would be interested in reading what I put together. Let me know, and I most likely will have the first post tonight (I live on the US East Coast, so "tonight" might be tomorrow for some).

As for what I would need from you guys....Would it be best if in this universe that B-sides didn't exist (as in every song, including b-sides were released as full albums, say Coldplay has 100 songs, this would make up about 8 albums + a few EPs) or b-sides exist like they do in reality (Coldplay releases 4 albums, and few EPs, and each cd/single has b-sides)?

Let me know what you guys/gals think about it and I'll get on with the idea.

It's a fictional series.

Say it's 1999, and Coldplay releases a debut EP titled "Reign Of Love" that contains songs that have the same musical elements of Reign Of Love (piano-based songs, etc.). Essentially, we have a Coldplay timeline , where we can go back and forth and collect any one of the band's songs from any era, and put them into a more distinct collection, based one the musical elements of particular songs.

Alternate Coldplay Universe

I started a thread like this two years ago, and never got to finish it (and it wasn't as good as I could make it be). Also, with Mylo Xyloto released it gives me more songs to play with.

The idea is this:

There's an alternate universe, where Coldplay releases music (EPs, LPs, Singles) collectively based on how the music sounds (what instruments/tempos are used). Example: Songs like Viva La Vida or Strawberry Swing wouldn't be on the same album as Reign of Love or The Escapist. In fact all four of those songs might end up on different albums.

Every song they've ever recorded still exists in this universe, they're just released at different times, on different albums, etc. It's just a new timeline, where I can go select different songs from different eras and mix and match them.

I'll release a few EP's here and there, along with Five Full Length Albums, complete with tracklists, singles, artwork, & setlists for the accompanying tour. I'd like to make this somewhat interactive, so I fully encourage you to listen to the tracklists in that order and sort of "review" the album and post it.

Of course this idea is out there and may not makes sense (now, or ever), but I hope you read it, follow along and have a blast, because I had some fun putting this together. If all goes well I should have something posted tonight or tomorrow night (the band's first EP in this 'timeline').

Hope you guys and gals enjoy this!

Also, might as well say this now, just for clarification. In this timeline: MX / Hurts Like Heaven will be one song, as will AHT / DLIBYH. And 1.36 will be a Coldplay song.

1.36 is already a Coldplay song, isn't it? :wtf:

I know it was released as a b-side, but I was almost positive it was Ash featuring Chris Martin, but it turns out I was wrong! It was Coldplay featuring Tim Wheeler of Ash, and Simon Pegg on backing vocals. Don't let my apparent lack of knowledge scare anyone away from this thread! lol

A four man band out of London, England have released their debut release: a five song EP titled High Speed. Anyone who has heard of the band has likely already heard all of these songs, as the band have been touring as an opening act with Blur for the past few months (along with a cover of Hank Williams' Lost Highway).

The EP ends with its most memorable track Spies, and starts off rather, psychedelic, for the lack of a better term. Running just under 23 minutes, the EP many around England buzzing about this quartet.

Despite just releasing an EP, which was recorded in early July, the band said plans are already set in motion for another EP, or perhaps a debut album. The band will be testing out new material during their small local tour, they say a follow up release should be recorded & released within the next 9 or 10 months.

The band Coldplay have released a follow up to their original EP High Speed. However, it's the debut album everyone expected, it's another EP, even shorter than the first, totaling three songs and barely 12 minutes in length. It features the title track "Careful Where You Stand" sandwiched between the opener "Easy To Please" and the closer "Your Love Means Everything."

They tested these songs out in their local tour, but mysteriously not included was another new song called "Such A Rush." It remains to be seen whether or not that track will be released.

The band said keep an eye out for news from them later in the year, maybe this time it will be a debut LP.

This is actually pretty cool  Keep it up!

Over a year after releasing their second EP, Coldplay have announced that they have a release date for their debut LP. The album, titled Such A Rush, will be released on June 6, 2000. They announced that they had begun recording in October of last year, and just wrapped up the process. The album will feature the title track Such A Rush, which was being played during their set opening up for Blur last summer. Other song titles that have popped up over the last week include Only Superstition, Brothers & Sisters, and God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, which is being released today as the album's lead single. Here is the artwork for that single, which features Spies as a B-Side.

In even bigger news, the band will be touring as an opening act for Radiohead starting in mid-June.

Coldplay have released their debut album, a natural progression of their two EPs. Such A Rush, a ten song album, runa about 44 and a half minutes. The band's debut single, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face, has being doing well on radio, and is an always played song so far on their tour, where they're opening for Radiohead.

Here is the album's artwork

The tour is getting them quite some recognition. They play for about 40 minutes before Radiohead takes the stage. And fans are taking note, with crowds getting larger and larger for the opening act as the tour goes on. They play around 8 or 9 songs every show, with the setlists remaining roughly the same from show to show.

High Speed

Murder (Or Spies)

Shiver

A Whisper (Or Only Superstition)

Such A Rush

How You See The World

With their as of now untitled follow up LP due out in a month, Coldplay have released their lead single from their second album.

The song, called Major Minus, will appear on what the band is calling, "a rather short album." Is most likely will be under 40 minutes, and perhaps the song count in the single digits. The band say all the songs will sound similar in nature to this single, with a natural rock progression from album number one. It is rumored that Major Minus will also be the name of the album.

Does Major Minus not have any b-sides? :o

In a similar note from our real MX era, there are no b-sides for this album, but there may or may not be an EP in between albums 2 and 3. winkwink

Coldplay released their second full length album, titled Major Minus, which was also the name of the debut single. While the album is only 9 tracks long, the band expects 3 to 4 total songs to be released as singles.

The second single off Coldplay's Major Minus is released, and it's the track that follows the lead single Major Minus on the album, One I Love.. A third single is expected to be released sometime in the spring of 2003.

Coldplay have released their third, and final, single from Major Minus and it's Violet Hill, the album's opener. The band have released what most are calling the three "heaviest" songs as singles from the album. This will most likely be the final thing you hear from the band (as they finish their own headlining tour/festival season in August), as the Major Minus era is coming to a close.

Here is the single's artwork (obviously the Eye played a big part in this era and was a big theme)

Chris Martin says he has a few songs in demo form for the band's next album, which he says shouldn't come out for a few years, as the band are taking some time off to refocus where they want to go as a band.

Here was the tour's setlist:

Spies (this version: [ame=

Violet Hill

Shiver

One I Love

Lips Like Sugar (cover)

A Rush Of Blood To The Head

Bigger Stronger

Cemeteries Of London

Murder

Major Minus

How You See The World

God Put A Smile Upon Your Face (Live 2012 version)

**Crests Of Waves**

**1.36**

**denotes encore**

Check back here Friday or Saturday for LP3 information / speculation.

- NOTE -

With the exception of the final album singles artwork, I have just about everything done (and have for about two weeks). But obviously I'm not going to just post it at once.
