I know this is my first post, so i'll try and avoid posting rubbish, but, how about Coldplay just releases every song they have on the new album, just make it as huge as possible, 18 songs, or 20 songs. I don't think anyone here would have a problem with 20 brand new(ish) songs

This does kind of tie in with something that I was thinking about posting; a possible double album. I wouldn't put it past Coldplay to do this... It'd certainly be good for all that creative output Chris is pumping out.

Exactly how I feel, I don't really see how that could be a bad thing for anyone

Pretty sure they're trying to stay away from making long albums ever since X+Y.

Maybe they can make an album and release an EP after that, like they did in the Viva era

Yes, 20 sub-par songs compared to 10ish decent ones. Great idea.

You must be mad D: What If is like the most horrid song on there oh god

One of the rules that the band set up during the recording of VLVODAAHF was 'no albums over 42 minutes long'. Something like that anyway. I'm not sure if it still applies. Plus, Chris said this: "The worst mistake we could make, when we're the most Marmite-y of bands, would be to make a super-long thing". So yeah, unlikely that there'll be a double album. I expect about 10 or 11 songs on it like on Viva. An EP is always a possibility though.

They've always talked about putting approximately 9 songs on an album (hasn't happened yet though). Personally, I like albums with fewer, but more brilliant, songs. 9 and 10 are good numbers.

I wouldn't mind them doing an EP and then the album--that way, Charlie Brown, HLH, UAtW, etc. could go on the EP, allowing us to hear the studio versions, and then have completely new material on LP5.

Plus, both the album and EP would get more hype and bump up the sales :P

And what if HLH, MM, CB, UATW are the best ones and the EP is better than the Album?

X&Y is brillaint. What'chu talkin' bout, Willis?

I don't think the guys would give us the best songs off the album . . . It would've been awkward if they gave us In My Place, Clocks, and The Scientist and then dropped A Rush Of Blood :P

But they want to promote their new songs?! :P And so they choose the best... :D

Well, I can't argue that Charlie Brown might be LP5's Viva, and Major Minus is one of my favorite Coldplay songs so far :P but I think there's a least a few other great songs that we won't hear until LP5 drops

After all, The Joshua Tree was U2's fifth album and it was amazing!

idkkk I liked X&Y.

But yeah I don't want too many songs, just 9 songs was good.

AN EP IS EXCITING, but they already did that so it would be over-done or something. Even if they only did it once lulz.

just 9 songs?? O.o thats WAYYYYY to short, Arcade Fire had 16 songs and it won album of the year :D and plus Viva was too short for me, i listen to that album so much because i can get through it in like 15mins it feels like...

Yeah, true. But The Suburbs (While, i was going to mention that but I didn't feel the need to) was way to long and had many fillers, if you know what I mean.

I don't want them to do that, I didn't like Arcade Fire's last album that much. Had nice songs, but I prefer an album with few songs but all of them good than a bunch of random ass songs that half are good but the rest are just second parts or interludes.

They might do that, because they're kind of sounding The Suburbs..ish.

I'm awaiting the accusations once Charlie Brown gets released. Headlines on everything:

"Coldplay's plague of plagiarism strikes again: soiling the blessed name of the best Arcade Fire album!"

I mean jesus christ, Cartoon Heart was on the wall back when the band was still shut up in their studio recording The Suburbs... I mean, the title track was written in 2008 but I don't think Win Butler just HAD to tell Chris Martin about it once it came out and give him enough time to copy it. I just think it's ridiculous how people shit on Coldplay's reputation, they're not a bad band... :(
