nice one, what kind of paint did you use? (and depending on what kind of paint, how did you do the pickguard? does the paint stick to everything very well on the plastic? have you played it yet? does it rub off on the plastic?)

and how did you start out? sanded it a bit /roughened the surface?

did you also paint the headstock?

Well the process was sanding the guitar down with a very fine grain of sandpaper (1200) until it was very smooth and dull. Then I used some Testors Flat White spray paint and put on about 4 coats of it onto the body of the guitar (I took apart everything, so I'll have to rewire it whenever I have time). I used masking tape on the pick guard to cover up the pickups and bridge so I wouldn't have to hassle with taking it apart and putting it together, and did the tremolo cover separate. I put about 2 coats on the cover and pick guard and it came out nice. I then let it dry overnight. The next day I poured 7 different cups with acrylic paint, and then just dipped my hand into one and splattered it everywhere. It had a very nice Jackson Pollock look, but a bit more unique and sporadic. Then I just did the same on the other side. I put on about 7 coats of clear coat (also Testors) and it came out very smooth and even. But the paint is sticking VERY well to it, probably because I didn't clear coat the white before I splattered. I DID spray paint the headstock myself, because it was pretty boring haha. But I have yet to play it, because I need to take it in and have it rewired. But all in all, it was a quick and cheap way to make it look very cool!

Wow! That looks amazing! As soon as I saw it, it reminded me of the one used in the EDIAW video. Also interesting to see that it was cheap to make, a great way to make what would be considered an ordinary guitar, extraordinary!

May I ask, did you use lacquer at the end? If not, before you rewire your guitar.. get some lacquer(best is carpet lacquer) and spray it over all painted areas.

 

There are a few reasons to do this and all for the better.

Reasons like: It will look even better and more professionaly done, It will make a much longer life time and it will feel smoother when you hold your guitar.

Yeah the ETIAW video did influence me a little! I think you can tell :P but yeah I just wanted to make a unique looking guitar and I think it came out nicely.

Really great work. I think I'll try that with my GRG170DX, although it's black. I'm not playing it anyways, so I guess it won't hurt that much if I'm going to fail :D

Yeah this guitar sat in my room for 2 years because the wires were fried so instead of buying a new one, I just decided to fix it up! But put up pictures whenever you do yours!

i have had an ibanez too... still got it but i consider it my own brand now because it's customized that much - took that bitch apart, cut off the "horns" of the strat-alike form, reshaped it totally so it's a very small body. the paint was not sanded because the planer took it all off easily along a lot of wood. then it was sanded and oiled, didn't want it lacquered for a 3rd time so i chose the oil.

I like it! :) I like the color variety as well as the green headstock~ adds a cool touch to it.
