What do you want the songs to be like?

Featured Replies

All this negative talk makes me wonder what do the haters want the songs to sound like? They obviously love playing in front of large crowds where they can play stadium type anthems. Even Yellow is played faster now to get more of a jolt for the crowd. I have been a fan since Parachutes and really enjoy the MX era so far. In fact, Parachutes is my least favorite album. I felt I was the only one wanting them to play C.O.L over Shiver because it brings more energy. I listen to Arcade Fire, Jay-Z, and Bruce Springsteen and get vibes from all 3 in the new songs. I'm 22 so maybe i'm younger than most? I had some friends let me know today who don't normally like Coldplay say how much they enjoyed Paradise which I like to hear. They are such a tremendous talent, I want as many people to like them. Not just the base who enjoys Parachutes/AROBTH

Also last I checked, they have played Yellow, Shiver, Trouble (once) Everythings Not Lost and Life is for Living during the festivals so it's not like they have forgotten the roots.

I want more songs to be like Charlie Brown and Hurts Like Heaven. I'm all for progression and i think both CB and HLH are different yet it's still Coldplay.

But that both songs are faster, like yellow, shiver, low, the hardest part, etc.

Paradise is like some type of trouble with synth from vlv era and some of the new influences of hip-hop, etc. Not ever song can be like CB and HLH.

I'm not a hater. I love Paradise and like ETIAW. And I hope/think all the songs on the album will be different. I just think ETIAW and Paradise is Coldplay showing that they can easily master the singles charts as well as the album charts!!!!

Very interesting thread. I am hoping a lot of people who firmly dislike Every Tear or Paradise can share their opinion about what they want the new songs to sound like...I am curious :)

As for me, I want to be surprised. Always :) No expectations, just an open mind. I can take the luxury to do this as Coldplay have never let me down so far.

What I want is variety. So far I'm loving the mix we're getting - yes, there are a lot of pop songs, but they are fucking fantastic pop songs. Then we have songs like Charlie Brown, Hurts like Heaven and Us Against the World...classic Coldplay.

The only thing I think that'll be missing, and has been since X&Y, are extremely emotional songs like The Scientist, Warning Sign, Fix You, Everything's not Lost and Politik. VLV had nothing of the sort, and sadly I don't think MX will have anything like them either :(

I personally feel MX has such emotional themes throughout, even more than past songs and I have a feeling Up With The Birds will fit nicely in the list of songs you posted :)

I really hope so. If that happens then MX is sure to be my favorite album

I Love COLDPLAY. I think this direction their taking is one that would help them conquer the WORLD.

Everyone should stop saying COLDPLAY are Sellouts. They are doing what they want to do. Ok. I was 7 when AROBTTH came out, and was already a GIGANTIC fan back then. I LOVED them then and I still live them now. COLDPLAY is for everyone. Not for just the NEW or tue OLD fans (though I am an old fan). I think Paradise is amazing and I absolutely love ETIAW AND HLH AND CB AND POC AND MM AND MTM AND UATW. AMAZING. I was the one who asked the oracle about Rihanna and POC(I didn't know Coz we don't have The Sun, here) and they said it's good. I believe that. MX WILL BE THEIR ACHTUNG BABY. And will be better than Achtung Baby. COLDPLAY TO THE DEATH!!!!

Good songs, I don't even care about the genre they want to explore but I want to hear good songs. If they'll make a good "simple" song, they better don't ruin it adding voice effects and weird stuff. If they're going to make a "massive" song they better don't ruin it trying to be cool or aiming at younger audiences. I want them to be authentic, I don't want to see another Parachutes but I'd love to see that simple yet beautiful style they used to have.

I know it's been a long time but I just want to see them making music we love and we can relate to. If they're going to try to be the biggest live act I want to see them happy and doing a good show, considering all the talent they have they don't need the strange voice effects, etc. They've all proved us the 4 of them is all they need. I don't want to see them trying to be someone else.

Overall, I want to see them getting bigger, they're like a friend of mine for me, but also don't want them to forget that the important thing is getting better, and that's what I don't feel they're doing by releasing these kind of songs.

And Eno... please get rid of him!

Yeah basically you like the stripped down version of Coldplay. think MX will have a few stripped down songs as they also said in interviews, so I am sure you will find something to like there. As for wanting them to make music we love and "good" music, unfortunately we all do and will always disagree on what falls in those categories :)

I do think that the new songs from the MX era will appeal more to a mass audience because the style that Coldplay have adopted seems to be comparable with a lot of other music currently in the charts etc.

The likes of Major Minus and Moving To Mars are not very chart-friendly and I think we will have few more tracks just like that in MX.

MTM doesn't count, they didn't even include it on the album. Just the fans will know about it.

i'm yet more convinced that if they wanted to tell an 'alien' story, they should have had Isao Tomita as producer and feature David Bowie in some songs or had him to collab some way.

Yet i'll give the album a chance as they've finished it.
