Many think that U2 still is the greatest band in the world. I think they have been there but are stuck, they need to change if they want the chance to become the biggest band again. NLOTH was not selling very well, despite the fact that U2 did all they could to advertise, but still people say they are bigger than Coldplay. I think Coldplay became the biggest band in the world when they released VLV. They made the right changes and became bigger. U2 are good and im not saying this because i hate U2. I just dont think they deserve to be called the biggest band. If we look at all U2's history they are greater than Coldplay, but they have also been around for about 21 years more than Coldplay. U2 was the biggest, but now its Coldplay who deserves the glory!

 

Now we can soon enjoy Mylo Xyloto and i wouldnt be surprised if it would break records and become the most selling album in the world like VLV and X&Y did :)

Anyways, despite the fact that I'm really not a fan of U2 (their newer stuff is just ugh imo), they worked their way up to where they are now. They definitely the deserve the status they currently have.

I agree and I've said that several times. Viva la Vida made Coldplay the biggest band in the world at the minute. U2 are one of the most successful bands of all time, but right now Coldplay are the more popular act. Although U2 will always be huge and are more well-known, I'd say Coldplay are the more successful band right now.

Coldplay are the better and more successful band right now. NLOTH despite being a fan of, was not a patch on VLV although X&Y and How To Dismantle An Atomic Bomb were more or less equal in quality for me. That said no band for me has created two records quite like The Unforgettable Fire and Achtung Baby. The Unforgettable Fire is the most stunningly beautiful album I have ever listened to and Achtung Baby just the most cocky and confident record. I cannot wait for the 20th anniversary edition out at the end of October.

 

If Coldplay can come close to something as good as TUF or AB then good luck to them!

Yes it does! Its what defines the size of the artist/band. Tell me what defines the size if sales and fans don't ? Yes and Justin Bieber is one of the biggest artists out there together with Lady Gaga etc. But he isnt the greatest BAND.

I doubt it. You don't look at everyone's sales, you only look at artists you like.

 

Justin Bieber has 36 000 000 fans on Facebook, Rihanna has 45 000 000.

 

None of Coldplay's albums was the best selling album of the year in the UK.
