U2 still the greatest band in the world ?

Featured Replies

Fair enough. As I said, I like Coldplay and I'm sure their new album will do well but I can't see it being that successful. They aren't the most successful band in their own country, nevermind the most successful artist but I'm not sure how popular they are elsewhere. You only ever hear about the UK and the US charts.

^^ on mediatraffic its 2nd after Am Idiot by few

Yes it does! And why? because:

X&Y, VLV most selling Album the year they where released.

They got more fans than Muse and U2 (I know its based on facebook but it still counts)

http://www.facebook.com/coldplay

Coldplay 14.387.886 fans

U2 10.536.068 fans

Muse 11.177.684 fans

Radiohead 7.125.637 fans

Again, I don't mean to be rude but your logic is quite flawed. . .

All that facebook fans show is that more Coldplay fans use Facebook. For all we know, there are another 20 million U2 or Muse fans that don't use Facebook, which would completely skew the actual numbers.

Justin Bieber has 3x as many Facebook fans as Coldplay.

Yep.

To the people claiming Coldplay is the biggest band in the world: have you ever been to a U2 concert? The U2 360 tour set records for the highest-grossing concert tour and for the highest-attended tour.

yawn, U2 bores me.

Who cares who the 'greatest' band in the world is. Music is subjective.

been to gigs by both yes.

But coldplay is massive right now.u2 has a bigger tour, but thats it.

Nowadays coldplay sales more ,and are way more mainstream.

I've seen them both many times. Sorry, U2 is the greatest touring band I've ever seen. And when Coldplay writes an album like Joshua Tree or Achtung Baby, I would be more inclined to put them in U2's company. U2 has been on top of album sale charts many times, and they have released albums praised by critics many times. U2 released their first album over 30 years ago, and it's still the same 4 guys selling out stadium after stadium. Coldplay's first album is barely 10 years old. I love Coldplay, but to compare them to U2 at this stage in their career is an insult to U2.

Finally one who gets the message! U2 make some new stuff and proof you still got what it takes. Coldplay IS the greatest at the moment, you can accept it or not but thats the facts.

I don't work for Coldplay's marketing team and I don't get payed if Coldplay sales well. So why should I care for sales and popularity stats? The last U2 album that I enjoyed was Achtung Baby and that came out 20 years ago. So their popularity is irrelevant to me. If some magical realm existed that made me enjoy horrendous tracks like Paradise and Every Teardrop is a Waterfall simply because they sold well then I'd probably enter it just to erase the bad memories of those horrible songs. But sadly such wizardry does not exist in this world.

Who cares if someone is the "biggest" band or not, it's the quality of the music that counts, and like someone else said music is subjective, to me, Coldplay don't make music I enjoy at all so I don't care how many Stadiums they fill or how many fans they have on Facebook.

I love both bands to death, and despite U2 being my all time favorite, Coldplay is quickly becoming a very close Number 2.

The day that U2 runs its course, I can't imagine a worthier successor than Coldplay.

It boggles my mind that Brian Eno could go from producing Viva La Vida (my second favorite album after Achtung Baby) to the relative disappointment that was U2's NLOTH.

Who cares if someone is the "biggest" band or not, it's the quality of the music that counts.

and coldplay have disappointed me on that front :disappointed:

U2 is definitely a big band, but I don't think of them as the greatest. As much as I love Coldplay, not even they are the greatest band in the world.

I'd have to say The Beatles. Not only were they huge and successful during their time, but they have stood the test of time.

I'm not a U2 fan, but I respect where they have come from and what they are doing.

The Beatles were probably all-time biggest band.

Here's the list (last.fm) of the currently most listened artists/bands at the moment: http://www.last.fm/music

1. Adele

2. Radiohead

3. Coldplay

4. The Beatles

5. RHCP

You see, how many years has it been and they're still one of the 5 most listened bands. :)

Very much agree with this.
