September 25, 201114 yr Kill me if I'm wring or if you disagree, but is this song really bass-heavy, as reported when we first heard of the song? Guy joins in late in the song, so ...
September 25, 201114 yr Yeah I know what you mean. Cant remember what review/interview this was in but they were wrong. Altho we haven't heard the studio version yet. It is hard to hear the bass/guitar in the ACL recording.
September 25, 201114 yr Maybe they mean Will's beat which is very prominent in the song. The definition of 'bass' is a low frequency sound. Will's beat has a low frequency so maybe that's what they mean. That's the only thing I can think of anyway, unless they confused it with another song they heard, like Paradise for example.

I think you may be right. Will's drumbeat is really the only thing I can hear throughout the entire song (along with the chorus and a really fuzzy-sounding Jonny toward the end).
September 25, 201114 yr Probably the bass drum. Maybe the album version is very different? I'd hope it is.
September 25, 201114 yr Author I think the contrast between the second and the third chorus (when Johnny joins in) is much bigger than we hear from the video we've heard. There is, for instance, much more contrast between the parts on Paradise (verse/chorus, for instance) on the studio version than when they perform it live. In other words, maybe the last chorus is much more "bass-heavy" on the studio version. Btw, I agree with the thing about the drums too.
September 26, 201114 yr I wondered about the same thing... but after hearing the Live version, I can't wait for the studio version.
