Really Really Sad Songs

Featured Replies

Hello all :D

So when I get really really stressed out I like to listen to really sad music (I don't know why, it's kind of weird). Does anyone have any suggestions of songs I can listen to when I'm in the mood for that? I don't have very many sad songs, and I'd like to expand that.

I like really stripped down, acoustic songs that lack rigid structure. "He Was a Friend of Mine" by Bob Dylan is probably the best template I can think of. It's really raw and honest, and it doesn't get lost in complicated wordplay.

To be honest, the indie scene is probably best at this. Cat Power is someone I frequent.

"Videotape" by Radiohead also is on this playlist. Not that it's really particularly sad, but it totally gets to me.

Thanks!

Thanks man! I really like that Mint Chicks one. I've never heard of them.

Generally, I like really sad stuff that's not hopeful. Like at all. Coldplay's Amsterdam almost does it for me, but then it's kind of optimistic at the end. Ruins it in this respect (though it still is one of my favorite songs).

I love Coldplay, but they aren't very good at hopelessly depressing things. Most, however, would argue this is a good thing. Wedding Bells had potential, but alas, it's not a real song anymore.

A New Zealand band, who broke up last year. One of the best bands ever, in my opinion. Glad I got to see them a few times. (this song would last for over 10 minutes)

I can mention these 3 ones from The Antlers, included in the same album. Well, although to be honest all their songs sound sad, so you may like it, but these are 3 of my favourites probably.

I will think of other ones from other bands, etc.

I don't think that many songs on Burst Apart actually are sad songs, though. If you do want to hear The Antlers' sadder songs however, I would definitely suggest just listening to their second album Hospice in its entirety.

No no, I don't say that all their songs are sad, just that they SOUND sad. And I listened to Hospice, great album too! Last Saturday they came to Barcelona and I missed them. Probably next time will see them live.

^Depressing song, depressing video. Enjoy. :)

I think POC and Up in Flames actually make a great 2-song-depression-hit. But if you have problems with either one (there are good reasons to) then maybe not. But I think they're extremely depressing songs. UIF especially - the last line, "Could we pour some water on?" The way Chris sings the falsetto so weakly really makes you feel like he's dying or something. In a good way. UIF is like the Videotape of MX...just not quite as good in some respects. :p

I'm prone to doing that same thing. Like, I don't feel the necessity to listen to something cheerful, sad songs soothe me in a way. D'you happen to have come across Fix You? It's a song from this nice band, Coldplay. :D

Sometimes I listen to that piece when I'm stressed out.

Also, that Crystall Ball song is not sad. :blank:

And The Antlers, they're astounding.

This is a song about suicide.

Fix You isn't really sad. It's like "HAY ITS OK THAT UR LIFE SUX CUZ IM HERE NOW KTHxxX"

Coldplay is not very good at portraying raw sadness. They're too produced so it kind of softens the impact. This is why indie music is best for this, in my opinion.

SIGH.

It's so produced. And breakup songs are too cliché. I am forever alone, so I can't relate because my relationships are always stupid and pointless.

Plus I hate Adele. She's a really good singer but I can't escape her. Ever.
