Dutch media (mainly Twitter) are reporting that Bono, Chris Martin, Herbert Grönemeyer and the Metropole Orchestra are going to perform in Amsterdam today, in honor of Anton Corbijn, who's getting a cultural award (Prins Bernard Cultuurfonds Prijs 2011).

It's taking place in the Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. Don't know what time.

Optredens Bono en Chris Martin bij prijsuitreking Anton Corbijn

 

Martin en Bono zullen optreden onder begeleiding van het Metropole Orkest, net als de Duitse zanger Herbert Grönemeyer. Ook zal er tijdens de uitreiking een videoboodschap van Tom Waits te zien zijn, en draagt Bono teksten voor van Herman Brood. Schrijver Cees Nooteboom, fotograaf Stephan Vanfleteren en schrijver/dichter Bart Chabot zullen bij de uitreiking speechen.

 

De prijs wordt vanmiddag uitgereikt door prinses Máxima in het Muziekgebouw aan 't IJ. Corbijn (56) krijgt de prijs 'omdat hij een belangrijke beeldmaker en -vormer van de populaire cultuur van zijn generatie is en geldt als een internationaal voorbeeld voor fotografen, ontwerpers en art directors', aldus de jury.

 

Corbijn is naast de huisfotograaf van U2 bekend als regisseur van muziekvideo's voor Johnny Cash, Nirvana en Joy Division. In 2007 verscheen zijn eerste speelfilm Control, vorig jaar The American, met George Clooney en Thekla Reuten.

 

Fonds

Aan de prijs is een geldbedrag van 75.000 euro verbonden. Ook stelt het fonds 75.000 euro ter beschikking van de door de prijswinnaar op te richten cultuurfonds. Voor het weekend werd bekend dat Corbijn dat geld zal besteden aan het Haagsche Bluf Fonds, dat projecten financieel gaat ondersteunen die het kunstklimaat in Den Haag Stimuleren.

Fotograaf Anton Corbijn krijgt maandag uit handen van prinses Máxima een oeuvreprijs van het Prins Bernhard Cultuurfonds. Bij de uitreiking zijn Bono van U2, Chris Martin van Coldplay en Herbert Grönemeyer aanwezig.

 

De drie zangers treden samen met het Metropole Orkest op tijdens de uitreiking. Ook worden er speeches gegeven door Cees Nooteboom, Stephan Vanfleteren en Bart Chabot.

 

De fotograaf en filmmaker bouwde in de afgelopen veertig jaar een enorm portfolio op met bekende zangers, bands en filmsterren. Het Cultuurfonds noemt Corbijn een unieke kunstenaar.

Amsterdam is 2,5 hours away from where I live. One of the articles mentioned that it takes place this afternoon so I wouldn't make it in time :(

Nah, don't think if I would go I would be able to catch a glimpse of Bono or Chris. Especially when Maxima is coming. And off course, Bono is some kind of royalty too, so the security will be super high.
