Albums of the Year 2011 - The Countdown

Featured Replies

I'm disappointed my borderline obsessive post about Nicola Roberts has been relegated to the previous page. :(

But whatever, I'll take every opportunity (i.e. right now) to promote the best pop album of 2011 :awesome:

BTW, one thing I would definitely be interested in seeing is a correlational study of the albums voted by people here and their corresponding Metascores. It would be an interesting, albeit imperfect, method of seeing if people's opinion of the Top Albums is in tune with the music critics'.

Acclaimedmusic.net is calculating multi critics end of year lists from all credible sources into one and I state top 50 albums position in there in the brackets. Its as follows:

If there's two hipsters on the board with the same hipster taste, then on this list they would not even appear because they both voted for the same hipster album that no one ever heard of except them two, hahaha!

I am making a list of voters that had the most in common with the actual list. This time I summed up the points each song got on their list and this way I can again come up with a 'hipster' list, which will be a bit different because now also the songs that did make the Top will count. I will fall off for example because I also voted for MX and Bon Iver and Radiohead. David will still be number one, hahaha!, because he really voted only for albums that no one else voted for.

I'll come up with more hipster albums worth listening to, as well :D

What did I vote for again? :P

Hm, that's odd. The list of Acclaimedmusic.net is different from metacritic.com which also works with metadata from lots of music rating websites. I used the latter to calculate resemblance between a metalist and our list. :S

David, your list is here

Para-para-parrotdies, I really like that idea btw!

Top 100 compared to two Metadata Tops:

The Top as we have it with behind each album between brackets the metascore rankings in the list of metacritic and the list of acclaimedmusic. The ranking in the metalists is as if these albums were the only ones in there.

"-" means the album is not in the metalist.

Thanks for putting this together. Just a quick glance confirms that the large majority of albums voted into the Top 50 weren't exactly critics' choices.

Ah sorry, albums/artists.

I don't know the countries that votes because some people don't have their country listed on their profile.

  • Author
There were a bit more than two Norwegian albums. I think I counted 5.
Yes there were, but they didn't make the Top 100. I only counted the countries for the albums in the Top 100 as Italian Plastic suggested. Forgot to mention that, will add in original post.

I didn't add the % since in a top 100 the number of voted nearly equals the % (nearly because of shared 98th place for more than 3 albums)
