Now I'd venture to guess that if there is one genre that most of you guys are not fond of or even look down on, it's Pop music. But I thought it would be interesting to see out of everything what are some pop records or pop artists you can really vouch for... or even just tolerate.

I'm actually curious to know about what you guys will answer :)

60s pop music was basically the best thing ever

contemporary pop is p hit or miss for me; a lot of f great songs recently tho and a bunch of good to great albums

Are you looking for pop albums or singles? The reason I ask is the past 20 years or so have been dominated by singles. Of course, pop has always been defined by singles but more so recently due to the availability of the internet and rise of MP3s. Consequently, you have less cohesive pop albums as the the album format in pop has become something for artists to put their hit singles and then a bunch of filler.

Moreover, it's become difficult to differentiate between genres because there's so much! Thus, we arrive at the fundamental question that so many people have struggled with: what is pop? By "pop music," do you mean indie pop? Electropop? Noise pop? Baroque pop? Dream pop? The list goes on and on...

When I say records I mean singles, I agree there aren't many solid pop albums out as of late.

Plastic Beach by Gorillaz I still hold as one of the best pop records of late.

Parklife is another one.

I guess that's not what you mean by pop though?

Maybe not but I did look it up and I love the record so I downloaded it! Thanks.

There were a bunch I wanted to include but I wasn't sure if they counted, I actually think some of these probably don't count either. :l

^ That Boys Like Girls song got on my nerves so much. Kinda like how "Tonight Tonight" by Hot Chelle Rae gets on my nerves right now.

You've got some great songs in there, though. I'm pleasantly surprised by your choice of "Tangled."

Oh man, Hot Chelle Rae, I second your feelings on that.

I think I still just like the Boys Like Girls song out of nostalgia though, haha.

Songs About Jane is such a grand album.

It's the very first album I ever bought for myself. :dazzled:

If we're also gonna talk about stuff we like out of nostalgia, "Ocean Avenue" by Yellowcard will do it for me. It kinda fits in the category, too, as Yellowcard are like, punk pop. Of course, everything else they do is a bit lame, but that record was awesome. I played it until I couldn't play it anymore. :dazzled:

This song in particular was my jam:

On pop music, I don't know if anyone has heard of the Canadian singer called Lights, I love her music

Yes, I've heard of Lights. I'm not a massive fan of her voice.

from this list you posted, I highlighted what I've liked over the years..

(btw I don't consider Vampire Weekend pop...)

Vampire Weekend are super pop!

i don't really have much to say after parrotdies' post..

I've always considered them Indie, if anything...

I'll make a list of some mainstream pop hit songs (and some albums) I like (most of them I'm a bit ashamed to confess :disappointed:):

Rihanna - Rockstar 101, Umbrela

Michael Jackson - Billie Jean, Beat It, Black or White, Don't Stop 'Till You Get Enough, Bad, Smooth Criminal, They Don't Care About Us.

Shakira - Rabiosa

The Wanted - Glad You Came (:embarrassed:)

The Black Eyed Peas - The whole The E.N.D. album and Where's The Love

Britney Spears - Womanizer

Maroon 5 - Their fist 2 albums (Songs About Jane and It Won't Be Soon Before Long)

Justin Timberlake - Lovestoned, What Goes Around...Comes Around

One Republic - Apologize

Madonna - 4 Minutes and some 80's songs I don't remember the name :P

Why on earth would you be ashamed to confess you listen to pop? That's really the wrong mentality to take.

Not so in love with mainstream pop stuff, but Katy Perry is not bad.
