R42 about FUTURE PLANS

Featured Replies

Hi there folks.

Today I came across the latest Roadie post and the words 'future plans' immediately got my attention. My personal opinion is that I don't like MX at all, and I'm waiting secretly for some amazing work to come out someday, just like it seems to go with The Killers (amazing work they are showing with Battle Born and the Runaways video).

Concerning Roadie, this one got my attention:

"There are a few tunes that have been on a break since Viva that get another run through."

I loved that stuff, 'Lukas', 'Don Quixote', and many other ones like 'Goodbye and Goodnight', 'Fall of Man' etc.

If they manage to get back to the glorious sound they were about to get after Viva and BEFORE MX, it would make me very happy. What about your opinion guys, should they consider MX as their 'Last big shot' as they said someday and go back to the artistic part?

Coldplay is commercial since 2005, so that does not serve anything that you find crappy MX.

MX is actually quite artistic, in the sense that they pushed their boundaries further and the fact is you cannot ignore the visuals of this era, which are, currently, almost as important as the music, it seems (even though the music is still predominant).

You say it's not artistic because you don't like MX.

Now apparently Phil did say, once, that they may try to "go back to their roots" on the next album. But what this era taught us is that you can't trust anything they say at the early stages of the recording process  (as they were supposed to do an acoustic album for LP5). They probably aren't even there yet.

I myself hope they'll indeed "go back to their roots" a bit, even though I love MX, but we never know, and it's not up to us anyway. Right now I'm just happy to know there will be a next album

But I find your Viva theory interesting.

Coldplay is commercial since 2005, so that does not serve anything that you find crappy MX.

more like since 2000. :P

They were just rehearsing old Viva song they played in the VLV tour, IMHO.

^ It may have only been for the next parts of the tour. "There are plans afoot for much further down the line which require a bit of work now to start getting right. As is often the case with future plans, there’s as much talking as there is playing. The five man Coldplay brain-trust has some decisions to make. A few things are tried. Some work better than expected, some suddenly seem like less of a good idea than they did on paper. That’s kinda the point of the operation…"

The "much further down the line" may suggest new album, but the rest may only mean what's next for the MX tour. They're maybe trying to put more VLV songs in the setlist.

I think in one part Roadie42 was talking about rehearsing some VIVA songs for a possible re-play for upcoming shows, and they practice NEW MATERIAL during some of the soundchecks:) At least that is how I read it.

Well I think this "theory" of mine has the same value even without this R42 post.

@Coeurli The MX thing is indeed being artistic but imo on SUCH a different level, its like forcing everyone to be part of some bombastic stadium jump-phenomenon rather than really 'dreaming' about something amazing.

You know, for me personally, Viva let me dream of anything I wanted. Chinese Sleep Chant? I could fly away to that one, and in Reign of Love, DAAHF, same story! :D

It's great to know that you guys may disagree, some may agree but, I'd like to share that I find MX a forced attempt to live an outlined dream instead of a chance to let your thoughts do what they want. Obviously this goes not only for CP but for all the music on god's green earth.

Give up the thought (or hope) that they'll go back to their roots. Let's just hope they'll come up with something new and leave both pre-Viva times and this horrible MX era (well, most of it at least) behind.

Dont know why,but i think Glass of Water will make a return on the setlist when they continue the Open Air Concerts. Fits pretty good into the MX-Era:nod:

come on guys.

it is too early now to talk about Lp6.

In this thread,no one really does  Its more about changes in the setlist for further concerts...
