Was 'Fix You' inspired by the song "Grace Under Pressure" by Elbow?

Featured Replies

Alright Coldplayers... I saw this and wanted to share it with you all to see what you think...

Ryan Tedder from OneRepublic just put this post on their Twitter..

"Also check "grace under pressure". --Elbow, pretty sure was the inspiration behind Coldplay "fix you". Or at least sounds like it"

It made me curious..

So what do you guys think? I know there's talk about how Chris wrote Fix You for Gwyneth after her father died but I haven't seen any actual real proof of that.

I know there's no proof of this either but it just made me curious...

I'm not quite feeling the similarities here

But then again, that might just be me

Love Elbow, but I don't think Chris wrote Fix You being inspired by this.

No, it isn't just you.

Ah well, I also don't think Speed Of Sound and Running Up That Hill sound alike.

I guess they don't mind saying that when they wrote one song they ripped off another song, because in the end the two songs don't end up sounding the same

i don't think the songs necessarily have to sound alike in order for one to have been inspired by the other. the title itself, "Grace Under Pressure" sort of does fit in with the theme of Fix You, so it very well could have been some sort of inspiration.

:surprised: you're right

Exactly. "Inspired by" doesn't mean "copied." Inspiration can come in many forms - a feeling, a tone, a sentiment. I love "Grace Under Pressure" and like that it's someway connected to "Fix You."

I totally agree with the last three posts but the quoted part made me think I should hear a lot of similarities between the two songs.

Thank you for your replies.. It just made em curious.. I like OneRepublic and follow them on Twitter.. I thought it was interesting so I checked it out and wanted to share.

It's also nice when another band you like mentions the other band you love.
