The used car market is shit.

The current generation of cars won't last as long as the cars made in the 90s/early 00s, they are so computerised and are designed not to last as long.

Thank you for the advice, Reilly.

I thought it was the opposite, that cars are getting better. But even so, a Toyota is quality compared to an American car.

I wouldn't buy an American car, ever. It'll take a looooonngg time for mostly GM to try to save their brand and turn it around. Ford did well through the recession and came out looking much better in the PR arena when they rejected bail-out money, and also Ford is doing fairly well from what I understand. GM did the right thing by cutting the fat from its product line-up (like pontiac, saturn, hummer) etc. If they can get back to basics on building decent, quality vehicles they will do well. The problem is that there is such a stigma on American-made vehicles now that it will be difficult to change that perception. It'll be hard for GM to make the case for people to buy their vehicles even if they are starting to churn out some decent products. It won't mean anything if people won't even try them. Cars are too much of an investment to "try on." That's why we see so many going with the tried and proven of toyota, honda, etc.

Modern cars have so much Electronics on then, might be easier for the main dealers to work on (having all the manuals to process the various error codes), but when those computers start going wrong, it's going to cost to replace, sometimes higher than the value of the car.

GM = Vauxhall, always got some sort of promotion on, says a lot (same with Seat, the 'brand with no meaning' in the VW family)

Everyone wants way over the value for their Scion Tc's. I checked several sites that say what the price is for a private sale, and almost all I can find are at least a 1,000 over it.
