Q. Is there a band pet? Or at least, do the guys have pets?

The Oracle replies:

I'd like to jest that I am the band's pet but no, there isn't one. There are pets within the band's families but truth be told, other that Chris' dog & Phil's dog, I don't know who has what. Guy used to have a rabbit years ago...

Yeah...USED to have a rabbit...until he ATE it!

Coldplay Most Succesful Band as now,After 10 years later they're would be Legends

Even though they are the biggest band in music right now, I always feel like they are underrated.

Great post Tash!

I think it's both, really. I've heard/read a lot of people overrating them but also a lot of the opposite. I think in the end it balances out (maybe with a bit more of underrating than overrating, but I haven't really counted  ).

I think the overrating it's stronger than the other, that's where their popularity comes from, from people who sometimes overrates a simple melody, like Yellow, for me it's an overrated song.

I'm not saying they are populare just because they are overrated, but is a major factor

So you don't like X&Y AND you think Yellow is overrated. You are not a good person. You know that, right?

:laugh3:

People who think a band is overrated normally aren't fans of that band, therefore Coldplay's popularity hasn't got anything to do with the fact that people think they are overrated.

It is for my point of view, all the hype around Coldplay is made also from people who overrates them

I don't use this forum anymore, but I actually wrote this article. I came on to see if anyone had shared it - as I remember a similar article was shared once before - and I just wanted to say thank you to Tash for sharing it, and thanks to you for reading.

And to confirm, yes, I once caught Guy Berryman putting bread in my toaster and eagerly eyeing up my kitten.

HA! I knew it! I knew it was you!

Why aren't you here predicting tons of stuff for the next era ?

Aww, guys.

I guess I don't have much time anymore :\ It's either spent working full-time, writing articles like this, Tumbling or with my much-suffering girlfriend. But thanks, I'll make sure to come and post some stuff when I can :D

I think the main reason a lot of people don't respect them the same way they respect Radiohead and U2 for example (both bands with a lot of haters but people respect them nevertheless) is because no one takes them seriously. and its hard to be taken seriously with songs like paradise and ETIAW and VLV and LIJ.

it wasn't always like this though. back when AROBTTH was released things were very different. I wish they had maintained their core identity.

It's their fault if they don't respect VLV or LIJ.

Odd, I think some of the melodies are underrated just because of their simplicity, but some are overrated too, also some of the lyrics that aren't too special

I think if Viva actually brought their reputation up. I think X&Y really burst the bubble that was formed from Parachutes and AROBTTH - and I mean the sense that the next Radiohead was Coldplay. I think that was the expectation and when X&Y came out, no one expected it and the critics weren't pleased. I think that's part of the reason Coldplay doesn't get say high 80's or low 90's in metacritic. Simply because Coldplay changes their album tone so much with such variety, I think it always pisses people off. I mean, if Viva came from Arcade Fire, I guarantee it's at least as critically acclaimed as A Rush. People expected the harder sound from Parachutes to A Rush. People didn't expect the spacier sound of X&Y, or the grand sound of Viva, or the electronic feel of MX - or at least, they didn't like the change. I think the only way Coldplay can get universal critic acclaim again is if they went to the basics. No one can insult that. No one can say that the sound is a gimmick. But that is one of the best parts of Coldplay. You can always count on them to surprise, no matter if you like it or not.
