Coldplay Donate £260,000 To Sport Relief As DJ Jo Whiley Completes Gruelling 26 Hour Walk For Charity

That's dedication!

British band Coldplay donated a whopping £260,000 to a good cause yesterday, after they sponsored BBC Radio DJ, Jo Whiley £10,000 per hour for a Sport Relief charity walk.

We sometimes struggle to find the energy to walk to the corner shop to grab some chocolate, so we have enormous respect for BBC Radio DJ, Jo Whiley who walked for an incredible 26 hours on behalf of Sport Relief last night.

Jo can breathe a sigh of relief (and maybe grab a foot massage while she's at it) because her gruelling walk was not in vain. The 48-year-old has managed to raise some serious dosh for charity, with Coldplay donating £10,000 for every hour that Jo kept walking, making that £260,000 in total.

Luckily, Jo wasn't alone though. The likes of Mel C, Paloma Faith and Peter Andre dropped by to keep her company on the treadmill.

The challenge began on Wednesday evening at 7.45pm and didn't end until 9.45pm last night. Talking to the Beeb after the event, Jo said: "I have loved my challenge. It has had some highs and lows."

“It has truly been one of the most amazing experiences ever, but everything was worth it for Sport Relief.”

She then added: “I am blown away by Coldplay's generosity and it has made this challenge all the more sweeter.”

All week the BBC Radio team have been getting active as they attempt to run, swim and cycle a total of 25,000 miles. Why that number? Well, it's the circumference of the world, obviously.

Radio 1 Breakfast Show presenter, Nick Grimshaw also got involved. Grimmers contributed 1,000 miles to the total during his 12 hour cycling task. He managed to raise an amazing £11,582 in just one day.
