This is just ridiculous:

Maroon 5 - Maps - released by Interscope Records (an American record label that operates as a division of Universal Music Group)

Taylor Swift - SHake It Off - released by Big Machine ( Universal Music Group distributes its material internationally

Sam SMith - Stay with Me - released by Capitol (a wholly owned division of Universal Music Group)

Iggy Azalea - whatever - released by Island Records and Virgin EMI (both owned by the Universal Music Group)

Ariana Grande - Break Free - released by Republic Records (a division of Universal Music Group)

OneRepublic - Love Runs Out - released by Interscope (an American record label that operates as a division of Universal Music Group)

Calvin Harris and JT are two exceptions.

IMHO it was a complete utter hype for the iHeartFestival coming up, and tbh it wasnt just Coldplay that was asked to do these radio pitches, many of the other iHeart performers did it as well. I cant blame Chris as I'm positive he does have to listen to all these artists in the car or the house as he does have a 10 yr old girl, and with ASFOS being a serious cross over hit being played a heck of a lot across the iHeart radio stations, its a win win for him to get out and be heard a little for people that arent really fans, they heard him and say ohhhh thats that bloke from the ASFOS song ...I think he was asked to help promote iHeart and he said sure. Since it was pretaped you know the songs were chosen in advance, and all he did was go into a studio and speak 15 seconds worth Hi Its Chris from Coldplay heres my favouite band (insert name here) about 6 times..whole thing prob took him 30 min lol I bet he did this back when he was in NY inside the radio stations...but thats just my take, I could be wrong ( though I'm not lolol )

So I had some time to think about this promo. I am a regular listener to Z100 and maybe I thought it would be like when Chris was on with Elvis Duran, who I love. Maybe I am not that savvy with today's top 40, maybe I was just naive, but I really thought Chris would be pulling some oldies. But then I realized that Z100 is tied into IHeart radio who is promoting the IHeart radio concert. I should have expected they would be promoting the performers that will be appearing. Chris was probably just doing what he was asked by this company, same as the Target show ( I know there were a lot of you that were not happy with it). I am not saying Chris did not enjoy doing it, he seems to like all music. Just because it was not what we as a collective group (I hope you guys don't mind me speaking for you) wanted to hear, that does not mean the rest of the listeners did not. Coldplay is loved by so many ppl. I bet there were a lot of listeners and fans that did enjoy the broadcast. Not everything Coldplay or Chris does will make everyone happy. It just left me a little sad, but that was because I expected one thing and it turned out to be something else, my problem. It's not the end of the world. There will be plenty of shows to enjoy that will come our way. I am happy for the band that they are so successful

what bothers me its that since EMI sold Parlphone it seems like Coldplay and Chris have lost that freedom of advertising they had with EMI, that made them purer and different from most the nowadays mainstream artists (ie 1D that needs the porfumes to advertise themselves)

I think the Target thing was deffo part of the contract Coldplay signed when Target sponsered that USA NBC tv broadcast of Ghost Stories ( remember he told Zane Lowe it cost 4 million per show)...thats also why Taylor Swift was there as well, Target sponsered her RED album heavily and her tour.

When you are gonna play iHeart, you promote iHeart...simple as that. I know many ppl dont like to hear that, and think Chris has lost the plot, you forget, iHeart is right now playing ASFOS SO fucking heavy on their stations across the US (in just the 3 days of being in the US, I have heard ASFOS 29 times on 3 different iHeart stations in just the city I'm in)

I dont have issues with what he did, and I'm sure he went home and turned on some Flaming Lips to dance naked around the house to....oh wait, thats me gutter brain thinking dirty thoughts again lololol

Damn, i prefered EMI they used to leave coldplay in peace

Ā

Really? Am I the only one that remembers Chris saying about X&Y that there was a lot of 'corporate pressure' being put on that album a few years ago?

Ā

I thought people used to be grumpy at EMI, are we going to be grumpy at whichever record label they're signed with now? :P

Ā

That and these 'interviews for sponsor' things aren't really new at all when you think about it.
