PIXIES!!!!!!

Featured Replies

:curtain: Hi!

I don't have their albums but years ago a friend made a kind of "best of" CD for me and I love the songs I know!!

Caribou, Hey, Where is my mind are the ones I remember the titles of but I only just listened to the CD and didn't have a songlist :uhoh:

So my knowledge is very limited but the ones that I know are all great!

The songs give you shivers from awesomeness!

I was at a small party 2 weeks ago and the DJ played "Hey"... Him and me were the only ones having smiles on our faces, the other people didn't know the song. :disappointed:

Fight Club is responsible for a dico playing "Where is my mind" almost every week though.

Speaking of that, the movie was on TV a few days ago and it's sooo great to tune up the volume at the end and just enjoy the atmosphere the song and the images create.

Yeah, i have all their cds (which are only 4), and i still end up listening to Wave of Mutilation (best of...) the most. It's perfect for the average fan, or a big fan who just wants many of the high points.

Gouge Away and Debaser are must listens.

The funny thing about the pixies is that it doesn't matter how popular they are. So many musicians have named them as an inspiration that their legacy is secure.

A lot of the musicians I listen to also claim them as a huge inspiration I've just never taken the time to really listen to them besides that one album you guys just mentioned.

A lot of people tell me to check out Pearl Jam too and I never really got into them, just like Better Man and Alive

Pixies are the best band ever, especially live, I can't believe people have had the chance to listen to them but still haven't, that's scary, seriously!!

This was actually the last gig I went to, shamefully, but it was the Doolittle anniversary tour and it was AWESOME. I'm just a bit out of shot, but not far (slightly out of the mosh and nearer the bar :))

This (or Made of Stone by The Stone Roses) is my favourite song ever:

I've heard three of their albums because of the book "1001 albums you must hear before you die" and I must say that most of their songs are quite boring, but they also have songs that are insanely good like Debaser, Monkey Gone to Heaven and Waves of Mutilation

The Pixies set to record new material

When their tour is finished, the Pixies want to make a new album. "We gotta plan to make something new," drummer David Lovering explained in a recent interview. Two decades after the release of their album Trompe Le Monde, the rock legends have fans who weren't even born the last time they released a record. "We're gonna wear out our welcome soon enough," Lovering said. Besides, even Bono is hassling them.

The Pixies split in 1993 and reunited in 2004, and the past seven years have been marked by constant gigging. "We were happy to just tour, and it's been non-stop because people want to see us," Lovering told Spinner. Although the band have been talking about a new album "for years", Lovering admitted, "nothing's come to fruition" – allegedly due to the reluctance of bassist Kim Deal.

But things seem to be changing. When this tour is finished, suggested guitarist Joey Santiago, "it'll be time". "Making a record will be in the forefront ... We've definitely gelled as a unit and hopefully when we can all bury the hatchet – and we have – maybe we'll go in there and hope for the best."

The Pixies still have "friction", Santiago acknowledged, though he and Lovering aren't really the problem. "If there were two people to pick ... it would probably be the other two [laughs]." But the musicians claim that even Kim Deal and Frank Black can probably be convinced. "Who knows once we get in there?" Santiago said. "I think that makes good music. [The Kinks'] Ray Davies, you know, beating up his little brother, [laughs] that friction, we've always kind of used it. Like, 'Oh yeah? Screw you, we're gonna play'. That little angst, it's good."

Besides, it isn't just 18-year-old fans clamouring for a sixth LP: the frontman of U2 has been tugging at the Pixies' sleeves. "Bono even asked," Santiago said. "Remember that? He's like, 'Please make a record!' Goddamn, we can't leave that unturned. That would frustrate me. It would. I think we should do it. But it's up to everybody."

The Pixies complete their Doolittle tour in Victoria, Canada on 5 May .

The untitled EP contains four new tracks, and comes with a sketched design from famous 4AD designer and familiar associate Vaughn Oliver. Okay I've never listened to a Pixies record before, I only know their most known songs, but I really dig this EP.

How should I start my Pixies journey?
