February 14, 200323 yr Author These two awards just show what Oasis mean to the people ... never mind that shit the press write about them being finished ... they are only beginning! And what NME and Q have to ask themselves is if there was no Oasis would there be a Stereophonics , a Travis or even a Coldplay ... to be honest i don't think so ... and it's because albums like Definately Maybe inspired young Fran Healeys', Kelly Jones' and Chris Martins' to pick up the guitar ... Noel and Liam showed British youth culture in 1995 that with a guitar and a great song you could make a difference! Well done lads you more than deserve it!
February 14, 200323 yr In a way I think they do deserve it, their history and impact on music is undeniable. But that doesn't mean they are infallable. All bands have their shortcomings and i think that is why real music fans enjoy and appreciate a variety of music because one band cannot be expected to produce too wide a range of styles and sounds while keeping a core identity. And those that do quickly become obscure because of that lack of identity. Oasis are class, there is no denying that they are musical genius' who have and continue to delivery brilliant music. As far as rock anthems go they are one of if not my favourite band. I guess that because of my background and upbringing (not to mention personal taste and character) I prefer more sombre music in general, with emotion as a greater emphasis in tone over impact of tunes. I guess thats why I prefer Radiohead and Coldplay. Each to their own and there is more than enough space for all of us :D Music is my heart and soul, big hugs out to all who feel the same way ;)
