pal, buddy, amigo...

Featured Replies

does it sound condescending when sometimes says "thanks friend/pal" i always say it and i truly mean it as a sign of affection, like when somebody says thanks sweetheart.

but i fear that when you say

amigo/pal/buddy/friend/comrad (that's a funny one)/brovah (that's another funny one) people could take it the wrong way

i make no sense

in other words, i am going to watch donnie darko tonight with my friend who hasn't seen it!!

in UK we say, ta mate...americans always found that funny when i said that...

uk its mate...ta mate, cheers mate, no probs mate, whats up mate?

I use "mate" all the time, even if I just say hello -- "Hi mate" or something like that.

^Same.

We say mate too...not with "g'day" in front of it though. :dozey:

i don't think it sounds condescending  :(

what about manitoba? :snore:

simple thanks. is fine with me. i kind of get annoyed with something cheesy is added. :D

Yeah, "thanks" seems to be ok, and if you really feel the urge to add another word, the typical American young male thing to do seems to be "thanks, man."

Unless you're talking to a woman... in which case... uh.... I'll just stop talking now.
