To add my two cents, I think this post had the right idea. This board is boring, and there needs to be more good discussions. Many times on message boards, those discussions turn to flames, but so be it. Flames are just more intense discussions with witty insults, usually making for great memories.

 

Before I say anything else, an opinion can always be taken as an insult. For every Yin, there’s a Yang, and it’s up to every Yang to protect them self. If you’re the person whose beliefs are being challenged, than you can choose how you want to react. Whether that is you being offended, inquisitive, hostile, aloof, it’s up to you.

 

Riff, already you have lost a lot of this battle for a couple reasons.

1.) You screwed yourself when you started with this -

2.) From your replies, it’s obvious you’re very sensitive about supporting Coldplay. Most fans, who feel as “strongly” as you would jump on the opportunity to defend attacks against their originality and ingenuity.

 

Bananaman is more structured in his posts, and uses all the stereotypical flaming techniques found on other message boards. I’ve only just returned to these boards, but my assessment is that he is here to seek attention. He may also, like me, feel this place is a bit boring, and truly want a good discussion. So far unfortunately, this fight has gone no where…

 

Bananaman is trying to rally up support & look intelligent, and has neglected his point. The way I see it is, he once had you in a good position, but gave it away when he said this –

By trying to end an argument with a weak cop out, especially when Ban aggressively went after Ren a few posts earlier makes him the true loser of this round. The cop out wasn’t even comprehendible; its one thing to use bad grammar & abbreviations to be hip on message board Ebonics, but Ban’s closing sentence was just pathetically lame.

 

You both got to each other way too easily. Ren put up a good fight for being a true “nice guy”. Banana’s loss just gave him more practice towards becoming a true “cool flamer” like those he whacks it to from the other message boards he frequents.

 

I like the idea of this thread though, it added some spice to this community and I think we should all promote and applaud this show of free speech. I love Coldplay for a variety of reasons. No one can convince me that Coldplay is bad; they can only convince me that they think Coldplay is bad. With this stance, I am free to discuss openly the reasons in why the featured subject is or is not, without hurt feelings.

Haha no I kid, everything you wrote made complete sense (From what youve seen before you), and you think exactly how I do. But you did miss a few background points:

 

-Me and Ren's intention for this topic was to end the argument, I suppose either of us couldnt help but bicker before the fire was finally put out.

-I dont 'frequent' on other messageboards at all, actually this is the only one I go to.

-I dont intend to be a 'Cool flamer' but if someones going to call me a variety of abusive names for a simple hatred of my opinion, then theyre gonna get it back.

-And I think this argument was a bit more genuine then you think, it wasnt really as staged as you assume and my posts did not have expected reactions attached to them.

BostonRob's idea started this, so unless you & Ren talked in PM’s discussing the true intentions for this thread before posting in reply, that’s bull shit. Ren did try to stop the argument before it got started, but you forced it to continue.

You may not lurk others currently, but you have been to, and taken note from past boards I’m sure. It’s very clear that you do want to be a “Cool Flamer”, but the fact is, you’re not, and people here dislike you instead. Still, this gives you that attention you seek, thus you continue to blab. As far as “lowering yourself” like the phrase goes, you’ve accomplished exposing that fault all on your own.

I'm all for having "discussions" too, but from what I've seen, most people here are either incapable of having an intelligent debate or simply don't want to (I'm giving everybody the benefit of the doubt and assuming the latter). So most of the time, what we end up with instead are idiotic and childish displays of name-calling or other personal insults, or as JekuRot calls them, "flames," which are basically a huge waste of everybody's time. They can also start spilling over into other threads, which becomes very aggravating very fast.

 

So I disagree: this thread does not have the right idea.
