Everyday life - the track - Sunset
Still better than Army of One or A Sky Full Of Stars! It falls slightly flat for me in the sense it’s not as good as Gravity or DAAHF. The more I listen it sounds like an X&Y throwaway mixed with AHFOD style lyrics and a string arrangement thrown in for good measure. Not going to be groundbreaking in Coldplay’s discography but still, I’d rather an album full of songs like this than have another MX or AHFOD! The fact that a song released by Coldplay in 2019 is even being compared to X&Y is glorious.

It’s fine. I don’t think it’s very Oldplay in an AROBTTH or X&Y sense, but it does a subtle Viva vibe with the strings etc. I think Arabesque skewed a lot of our expectations of this album. While I hope there will be more Arabesques than Everyday Life’s’ on the record I suspect a lot of the songs will sound like that. Not a bad thing by any means, at least it’s not X Marks the Spot or a duet with Beyoncé!

Cry Cry Cry - Sunset
I have feeling this album will be very much like Viva in the sense all the songs will sound different. Whereas Viva experimented with classical/foreign instruments, I feel as if this time we’re going to get an eclectic mix of old timey, indie, alternative and country influences.

This era is looking more promising by the day. It seems they are going the indie rock/pop route but doing it in such a way that is true to themselves and quintessentially Coldplay, hence the poking fun at Liam Gallagher. Interestingly enough, sunrise will be streamed at dawn and sunset at dusk. I don’t know if the band comes up with this stuff on there own, or they have a cracking pr team but between the black and white video thumbnails, the letters to fans and ads in the classifieds... it’s just really good marketing that keeps people hooked.

It’s hard to say at this point in time but all signs are really looking good. If you go back to the GS era this is exactly what people were asking for.. an experimental sound like Viva with a more indie/alternative vibe and also songs with a bit more edge and TEETH as was said above. I have a feeling that after 2009, looking to the future the band sort of had a feeling that guitar and drums music was falling out of fashion.. which was true to an extent. Musically, this decade will be remembered as the EDM decade. Hence the sudden and dramatic change in sound. Chris Martin tried to reinvent Coldplay into something new, much like Bono did with U2. In a way it worked as they still filled out the stadiums, stayed in the charts and bagged themselves a new set of casual fans... much to the ire of those who loved the old stuff. like U2, I hope Coldplay will grow out of that now and start going back to being themselves.

I feel like in a parallel universe somewhere I’m on this thread railing and moaning about how modern Coldplay are bland pop and uninspired. Thankfully I’m not in that universe, We’re in the one where I got exactly what I wanted and haven’t been this optimistic about a Coldplay album in god knows how long.

Guns - Sunset
I am really looking forward to this song based off its name and position as first song on sunset. Hoping for a song like Violet Hill, AROBTTH, Politik or Major Minus.

Arabesque - Sunrise
Just wanted to say I said Arabesque was reminiscent of Love Spreads way before the NME did. I’m actually fully convinced the NME look at these forums to get a gist of what the fans think of new Coldplay material because it happened before AHFOD too.

This band is bi-polar AHFOD: “we’re getting stargate and Beyonce” EL: “Get me the modern day Mozart” Although, I’d prefer it was more of the band and less collaborations, good Collabs don’t bother me one bit. The hype train is full steam ahead.

Bashur Murad is also a Palestinian singer, backing vocals on Orphans perhaps?

According to google, Marwa Kreitem works as a Palestine goodwill ambassador for the United Nations. I have a feeling this relates to other tracks on the album.. It seems that much of this album will be about the wars in the Middle East and how the band view them.

I still can’t get over Arabesque. Exceeded every single expectation I ever had, it’s like a dream. From what I’ve seen quoted from music journalists, the tone of this album is ‘Anger’ Bring it on I say.

Perhaps. To me it doesn’t even sound like Viva. A lot of the songs on Viva could have been X&Y songs just for a few bells and whistles, different sounding instruments etc. This is a new beast entirely. This is the way I want to see Coldplay go since MX.

Arabesque - Sunrise
Coldplay release one of the biggest bangers of their career. People complain it’s not family friendly and want Rihanna back?? Boggles the mind.

I really, really hope it’s not a one off like Midnight. Actually, the mere mention of Midnight is giving me shudders, I’m a bit worried now. Please, Please Jesus/Allah/Buddha/Spaghetti Monster this is not a one off.

Brian Eno brings out the best in them. He takes them from the straightforward Parachutes/A Rush Of Blood band and channels that raw talent for song making into the likes of Arabesque, VLV, Violet Hill, Cemeteries of London etc.

Orphans - Sunset
In regards to the lyrics vs the tone of the song, I think if The Arctic Monkeys or Kasabian made a song like this no one would question it. It’s similar to Pumped Up Kicks or 99 red balloons. A happy sounding song with dark lyrics.

Arabesque - Sunrise
Best lead single since Violet Hill. I hope it’s not a flash in the pan and the rest of the songs on the album follow through on this level of epicness. Brian Eno brings out the best in this band.

To me Arabesque sounds like a mixture of Stand up by the Prodigy, Flick of the Finger by Beady Eye and Love spreads by The Stone Roses.

*Intro to Arabesque plays* *Puts on sunglasses* Oldplay is back. That is all.

This is nowhere near pop. Yes, it’s Viva esque, jazzy and all the things people have mentioned. What no one has mentioned yet, is that this is innovative indie rock/alternative/britpop whatever you want to call it. That is what that genre of music aught to sound like in 2019. I hope that the rest of the songs on the album will follow suit and be absolute bangers. I’d be happy for them. This album could genuinely be the best since X&Y. Oldplay is back!! That’s the headline here

An upbeat song about the war, with flippant lyrics. I’m sorry but there’s no way to describe these two songs except as ROCK AND ROLL. Chris Martin must have woke up and remembered he was a rock star !

“Rosaleem of the Demascene” “Yes she has eyes like the moon” It really reminds me of an Ian Brown hook.

I think Orphans would have really benefited from a guitar solo. Still unbelievable though. Arabesque takes it for me.. next level. Beyond every expectation I had.
