  1. The British accent kept tripping me up, too. I remember when my friend told me about Coldplay and recommended I hear their music, so I downloaded the CD off some FTP somewhere (I was naughty)... and I sat and listened to Rush of Blood to the Head all the way through. I never once suspected it was a British band. I just thought it was some Americans who couldn't talk very well (a low IQ perhaps), but who could write amazing music.
  2. Agreed, Clocks is borderline perfect, in my opinion. I think it's not overproduced at all, you can hear each member of the band individually, which I love. There's a very slight synth in the background that's so subtle, but it really accentuates the piano and gives the song atmosphere. I can listen to different elements of the song every time I hear it. Speed of Sound pales in comparison.
  3. Coldplay songs need to contain more cussing and sh*t. "Swimming in a sea of feces" is so much more moving, and it just makes good sense!
  4. Keynes was a b*tch, Milton Friedman FTW! But in all seriousness... congratulations. I love the feeling of finishing an assignment!
  5. Saffire replied to alyssa's topic in Coldplay
That's absolutely awesome! I'm going to give it a shot... but in pen and ink.
  6. I'm also sorta sad to hear about Guy's marriage not working out... especially since they have a kid. I hope they can work things out (assuming they haven't already divorced). That's gotta be tough being the only member of Coldplay who's not happily married... or not, lol. I just can't see Guy as the type who'd sleep around alot.
  7. Dominic Monaghan:
  8. Then the US would surely win. The t'rrists would all kill themselves. :P
  9. I think it's an okay song, not their best, but the end is definitely beautiful. It could probably have been better-produced... and the lyrics are beautiful imo.
  10. I hate Green Day, actually... I just used them as an example because they're popular.
  11. Hah, I think if Delacroix were alive today he'd be thrilled his artwork is still being put to use!
  12. You know, the guy who accused Coldplay of something nefarious to get his name and his band in the news. Free publicity! I should start a band and accuse Green Day of killing puppies or something.
  13. Brilliant job, Link!!! Here's what I can make out, with regard to lyrics: You Us I used to rule the world Hear Jerusalem bells a ringing Roman Cavalry Choirs are singing Be my mirror, my sword and shield, My _______ in a former field, ______________I know... I'm gonna hurt my neck trying to figure out Reign of Love.
  14. Hey guys, is this the "I got laid" thread?? I should probably leave, then.
  15. Not sure about the painless part... I've heard the head stays conscious for several seconds after it's been cut off! The best way to get rid of a head of state is to just instill a sense of antiestablishmentarianism in children from a young age. In America, we revere cops and troops, idolize detectives and lawyers with shows like CSI and Law and Order... we play music whenever the President walks in a room, we give senators and ambassadors titles like "the honorable"... we say politicians are "public servants" as if they were humble. None of this should be the case. Government is a necessary evil. We should avoid paying taxes as much as possible, question everything every politician says or does, and mock that stupid phrase JFK came up with "ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country" - as an individual, I would prefer to have minimal contact with government. I ask that the government do nothing for me, and I'd prefer to do nothing for it. Leave me alone, get off my lawn, etc. Sorry... I felt like ranting tonight, lol.
  16. Whatever you're doing, I want some of it.
  17. Good advice for exams, I'm going to try to employ it. I agree with the "support our troops" stickers... they're so pointless. But my roommate is a math major and he noticed that if you put two of the ribbons facing each other, you can make a Mobius strip! http://www.math.utah.edu/~lars/mathart/artpix/escher-mobius_strip_II.jpg
  18. White Shadows THAT'S power.
  19. I think it's 99% instrumental, but I read you can barely hear Chris say something like "baby it's a violent world". An instrumental coldplay would be pretty sweet though, it would force them to not rely so heavily on Chris's voice for direction... I think the other members of Coldplay are talented enough to pull it off and make it powerful. Especially with Jonny's guitar leading the melody.
  20. If you could solve this problem and mass-manufacture your new and improved dustpans, you'd be an instant millionaire.
  21. Half the fun of this is imagining Gwyneth helecoptering in on your secluded camp area and giving you the chase in her insanely high-heels through the woods.
  22. Heh, you think that's bad? You should come to America. I envy the Brits, but at least we can get XM satellite and internet radio.
  23. I think it's strange NME said Violet Hill was only the 6th best song on the album, yet the band chose to release it as the first single. Something tells me they were under pressure to do it because it's probably among the most "traditional" sounding songs on the album. An EMI executive probably listened to the whole album, and wanting to maximize shareholder value as quickly as possible he picked this as the least oddball song of the bunch. That's just my guess. Violet Hill screams "this is a new Coldplay, but still somewhat traditional - Chris hasn't ditched his piano!". But yeah, easily the weakest first single yet, in my view. It just doesn't have that heartfelt hook that Coldplay is known for... it's a very plain song, and it's not any of the guys' fault - I was bound to dislike a single somewhere along the way, and there are plenty of people on here who love Violet Hill. So good on them, I'm not bitter about it! Odds are the rest of the CD will please me, anyway.
  24. This looks like a bad rap album cover. Jonny's doing the B-Boy stance. :P
  25. Does anyone else think it's a little strange they released Violet Hill as a single? I don't mean that as a knock against the song, I just think it points to the fact that EMI are on the ropes and they wanted something "safe" to start with and get this record some attention. Maybe I'm wrong.
