hey guys, semi-good news. while the Jay-Z/Chris Martin track hasn't leaked yet, the first single from the album has. It's produced by Just Blaze, and has a pretty cool sample in it. If you are a Jay-Z fan, check it out! http://rapidshare.de/files/35741644/jayz_showme.mp3.html
  8. Hello everyone, I just got my hands on the latest k-Os album "Atlantis: Hymns for Disco" and it is once again a masterpiece. For those of you who don't know k-Os (which is the case for most people outside Canada) he is an artist who has always broken down stereotypes and genre classifications. Though he's often thought of to be a rapper, his albums vary from indie rock, to blues, to michael jackson pop, to rock, to reggae. He sings, raps and plays several instruments. A few months ago he collaborated with the CBC Radio Orchestra, one of the last remaining live radio orchestras in the world, to create the song "Burning to Shine". I highly suggest getting this, you should be able to find it on most filesharing programs. He has previously released two albums "Exit", which has been compared to Outkast's ATLiens and Lauryn Hill's "The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill", and "Joyful Rebellion" which is often believed to be one of the most critically amazing albums in Canadian History. Some of k-Os's best songs off these two albums are: Superstar Part 0 Heaven only Knows Man I Used to Be Crabbuckit Crucial Dirty Water (featuring Sam Roberts) Halleluja Emcee Murdah In listening to those songs alone you will undoubtedly gain an appreciation for what a diverse and talented artist k-Os is. Check out the new album here: http://www.gigasize.com/get.php/98162/K-OS.rar It will be available in Canada on the 10th of October, I would encourage all you Canadians to buy it and support k-Os. It won't be out in the US and Europe until the new year.
  9. Pitchfork is definitely a great source, mostly Indie and non-mainstream music there however. For hip hop music I go to this blog: http://www.hipandpop.com I also really enjoy: allthingsgo.blogspot.com and all the affiliates of that blog also try using the music genome project: http://www.pandora.com you throw in a song or artist you like and it will suggest other music to you and play it streaming online for free.
  10. My mom can never remember the band's name, and she is constantly calling them Cool Gang to whoever she talks to about music haha.
  11. Haha, i believe that I provided the link no Rad-Cold, unless Rad-cold provided another link to something else?!! anyways, I just felt like being proprietary. that sucks that it sold out! I'm sorry the article provided you with a glimmer of hope, but at least Sufjan is coming through your State, or even your part of the country! He's not coming to Eastern Canada at all!!!! I really would love to see him, it would be magical.
  12. Ok so Sufjan fans here is something new, just performed on the 29th of September, it's brilliant and very different from anything Sufjan we've heard before. The song is sweeping and epic along the lines of Chicago but goes further, it's like a film score at points with the gigantic orchestral sounds. It is the theme for his fall tour, and is one long piece of music (at over 10 minutes long). http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/page/news/Video_MP3_Sufjan_Stevens_Majesty_Snowbird_Liv That article will tell you a bit more about it. You can dowload a high quality version of the song here: http://downloads.pitchforkmedia.com/Sufjan%20Stevens%20-%20Majesty%20Snowbird%20Live.mp3

Hey guys, word on the street is that Chris and Gwen both performed with Jay-Z tonight and his 25 piece orchestra. the two came on for Jay's performance of Dead Presidents II, where Gwen provided the backing vocals! It doesn't sound as though they performed a new song tonight! But it's pretty early still to know for sure. http://www.nme.com/news/jay-z/24489

the show is tonighttt wooooooooooooooooooo is someone attending and taping? I'm sure it will leak ... just a question of when!
  15. d.B.g replied to d.B.g's topic in Coldplay
I'm positive that Chris won't be booed or heckled while on stage. Jay-Z fans are a diverse group of people who listen to a variety of different music genres and artists. They may not be Coldplay fans per se, but I'm sure that they will be very open and excited to hear the unique collaboration between the two.
  16. d.B.g replied to d.B.g's topic in Coldplay
Busybee, you're soo ontop of all the news as it comes out. that performance with Jay-Z and Chris sounds like it will be amazing! can't wait to hear it. On another note, just to do with Chris' collaborations, apparently Justin Timberlake approached him to do a song and he turned him down, saying that he only sang on Coldplay tracks. BUT as we know, Chris has worked with Kanye, Jay-Z, Nelly Furtado and others in the past. all i can say is OUCH. Oh and to do with that track list from AllHipHop Rumours, I don't really know if we can trust Mick Boogie as a source, or Mr. DonMartin. Some of the tracks on there are definitely legit, like "Show Me What You Got", it's going to be the first single. I also think that there will be a Nas collabo on the album, which will be amazing. I don't think that they're doing a "Till Kingdom Come" Remix, that would just be very bizzarre. Jay-Z has alreayd mentioned that "Beach Chair" is the name of the song that he's worked on with Chris and Dr. Dre. Aside from that though, the rest of the track names, and producers, and collaborations are really cool, and I hope that the final tracklist resembles it in some way.
  17. d.B.g replied to d.B.g's topic in Coldplay
Ok more news! So its confirmed that Chris Martin has produced the song "Beach Chair" for Jay-Z's new album. Apparently the two met at a charity function a few months back and kept in touch fairly regularly after that. Jay-Z said in his interview with EW that Chris sent him these beautiful chords for a song called "Beach Chair" that he loved. He passed those on to Dr. Dre who added drums to the mix, and they had a crazy beat. Chris Martin and Dr. Dre collaborating together?! CRAZY.
  18. d.B.g replied to d.B.g's topic in Coldplay
When I posted the news initially, I still felt that it may have all been speculation. But it seems like more and more sources are reporting that the "collabo" has actually occurred. The most recent one being MTV: http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/1540898/09142006/jay_z.jhtml?headlines=true All i can say is waaaaaawaaaaaaaaaaweeeeeeeewaaaaaaaa very pumped for this track. I don't understand on what grounds people can say that they like Eminem or Kanye, but not Jay-Z. Go back and listen to Reasonable Doubt, then the Blueprint (Volume I and II) then the Black Album, and you'll see how his amazing word play and flow has been consistent throughout his career. ALSO about the Kanye West collaboration, I promised everybody in the multimedia section about 4 months ago that I would deliver the song as soon as it leaked, and that promise still upholds. Kanye's album is set to drop after Jay's and after Common's. I have a feeling actually that he won't want to be competing with his mentor and his label mate at the Grammy's. Still the album is set for a December 11th release date (let's cross our fingers!!). I, however, wouldn't be surprised if his album comes out in January or February of 2007. He's got his clothing line launching this Fall and he's also working on a movie script which he is writing and making a soundtrack for. He's more than 80% done with the album. Tracks that we know will be on it are: * "Bittersweet" (Featuring John Mayer) * "Homecoming" (Featuring Chris Martin) * "Dispose Of You" * "Life Changes" (Featuring Consequence & Q-Tip) anyways, now you all have the full break down haha.
  19. I did a quick search and didn't see this posted anywhere. As some of you may have heard, there is a lot of speculation that Jay-Z is coming back from retirement to release a new album. Kanye West, the Neptunes and Timbaland have all indirectly admitted to having worked with the legend over the past few months. Other producers on the album are said to be Scott Storch and Dr. Dre. The album is speculated to be called: "Presidential Gala" "Presidential" or "Kingdom Come". Now here's the crazy news: rumour has it that Chris Martin has produced one of the tracks on Jay's new album! I'm very skepitcal of this, however, we do know that Chris is a big Jay-Z fan, and has talked about working with him a lot over the past 18 months, and we also know that Jay-Z has been a Coldplay fan for years. It would make for an amazing rap song, something along the lines of "Dry Your Eyes Mate" (Streets) meets "All Good Things Come to an End" (Nelly F). For the full article, check out Pitchfork Media: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/news/38558/JayZ_Returns_Probably I'll try to keep everyone updated!
  20. Hey hey, just wanted to know if any of you fine folks on the forum were going to the festival this saturday on Toronto's Olympic Island.?! It features Broken Social Scene as the headliner this year, as well as Bloc Party, Feist, J. Mascis and others.
  21. Pitchfork has totally slaughtered the album. 4.1/10 and they show no mercy whatsoever in tearing it to shreads. http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/36958/Keane_Under_the_Iron_Sea
  22. WHAAAT?! that's soo nice! geeez i want the indy version of his CD. TLo do you have the Elasamasaurus EP (or however its spelt) ?
  23. Jack Johnson Matt Costa Animal Liberation Orchestra (ALO) anything else from the Brushfire Records crew Bob Marley, damien marley The Islands and Unicorns I can post some of each of them later!
  24. Yeah Bedouin isn't the best Canadian band, they're still new. I think after a few years to grow etc... they have a good shot at becoming really good. Its a different style from what we generally get out of our Canadian Indie bands and I like that. But the other 14 artists/bands I listed are all some of my faves.
  25. Yeah I'm with all of you. Sometimes they are way too harsh on what I feel are good albums. And yes, the free downloads are good ... most of the time haha. Sometimes there's some rally wack stuff there too! but their Best New Music section is pretty good. Check that out. That's how I got into Danielson, Band of Horses, and some others.
