A L I E N S I appreciate the experimentation... but that song is a big miss for me.

LP8 Thread - Everyday Life
Coldplay could go in a million different directions for their next project because they are very versatile. I think a great move would be try to create an album that is more about sound and atmosphere, and perhaps Chris tries different things with his voice. I really don't want them to imitate another band's move (as we are all sick of those accusations), but Radiohead did a similar thing with Kid A. Thom Yorke said he tried to create something where his voice was more of a sound and feeling than a lead vocal with defined lyrics. Coldplay showed something like this with Midnight. Also I think the atmosphere of a song like X&Y has very strong visuals and a floatiness to it. I think Midnight and X&Y (I'm sure there are others) are songs that stick out to me like songs that would be great for when you're tripping on acid (not that I know what that feels like). Birds has that sort of feeling to it. I guess it's hard to describe what I'm saying. But basically, I think Coldplay could create a great psychedelic/Tame Impala-ish album. Especially since Chris has become so spiritual lately. Lol I guess the album X&Y was striving for something like this, but they never really got what they set out to achieve (even though I love the album). Hopefully we get something where Chris scales back his cheesy lyrics, and uses much more sparsity...

That's a great point. For me, I did not become a huge Coldplay fan until I heard they were playing the Super Bowl, and saw the huge backlash from people against it. I thought to myself, "Why do people hate Coldplay so much? I seem to find the 10 songs I've heard from them, at the very least, enjoyable." I started to listen to Parachutes on Youtube, then on and on through each album up until AHFOD. I fell in love with this band a couple years ago in college, like I never had passion for anything before. My passion was always sports, and then now, Coldplay. Going back to what you said, I think my love for Coldplay certainly had to do with the circumstances of my life then. But the weird thing is, every Coldplay song has always made me feel nostalgic, even though I hadn't heard 90% of them until a couple years ago. The great thing about Prospekt's March, specifically, is it is not overexposed. It is really something that true Coldplay fans can hold close to them (us). It is representative of the band at the absolute peak of their powers, producing brilliant music, that wasn't shoved down the throats of the masses.

Random Coldplay thoughts...
It was very subtle, I was staring at coldplaying.com, and heard that came on. I almost didn't believe it, but sure enough it was 100% HLH.

I'd put money down that when we do get the next "thing" from Coldplay, it will be something more intimate/built more for a tour like they did in 2014 with Ghost Stories. It seems like they really liked the sequence of coming off a big tour (MX), and instead of wearing themselves out with another big, 2-year tour, putting their energy back into the studio to create something smaller (Ghost Stories) so they could build up to doing something big again. If I had to guess, we will get something similar over the course of the next few years. Given the Kaleidoscope EP (and I'm assuming they will release Life is Beautiful at this point), it's clear they still have a load of ideas, and I'm sure Chris is writing constantly. They'll be thinking about the next project before we know it. They'll probably take a break for a few months, then realize they should make hay while the sun shines.

Worst Coldplay Songs Ever!
Just figured I'd bring this back to put A L I E N S on the list. I tried to like it for several months but I don't. I find the drum beat very unique and interesting, but the cheesy lyrics about refugees takes away from the aura of the melody. Also for me, Spies, Another's Arms, Green Eyes, The Hardest Part, Fun, Army of One, SJLT. I Ran Away should have replaced Green Eyes on the album, and Gravity should have replaced The Hardest Part. They should have put the stripped down piano version of The Hardest Part as a B-side.

A Head Full of Dreams Film - In Cinemas Nov.14
Can we just throw the guys, Brian Eno and Jon Hopkins back in the studio together for a year?

Agreed 100%. Glass of Water, Postcards, Rainy Day, title track, all masterpieces. Life in Tech. 2 too. There is something about the eras of Rush of Blood and Viva in which no other era comes close. They had so many good songs in each of those eras that they couldn't fit it all on a studio album.

Kaleidoscope EP
A L I E N S started in the Mylo sessions with Brian Eno, but was put off and eventually finished for the Kaleidoscope EP.

Hello
I'm very disappointed they didn't put Daylight, The Scientist and Life is For Living on the cd. I guess they were trying to promote their newer/later stuff in the Rush of Blood era, and can only fit so much on a cd. Daylight has this very simple yet hypnotic and nostalgic feel to it. It's so awesome and underrated. It'll never get old.

Hello
Welcome! I'm relatively new here too, it's a bit overwhelming considering the number of threads on here and the fact people have been on here for over 10 years. I love Daylight too, definitely one of my favorites off my favorite album as well. The Live 2003 version is awesome.

As Chris said, I think they like to appeal to various crowds. The oldplay fans, and those who like to scream and jump to music of The Chainsmokers. I think Chris falls more in the category of liking to jump to music of The Chainsmokers now.

Really good point. It does feel like they were too complacent with the last album. Hopefully with the lack of critical recognition recently, they will regain that hunger and passion to "prove wrong" like they did following the backlash from X&Y. But if what Chris is saying is true, that he doesn't read/care about criticism, then probably not. It seems like their music has been torn to pieces more recently, than X&Y was (which the band points to the turning point in their musical direction and outlook). Outside of Pitchfork (which shreds every Coldplay album, besides MX interestingly enough) and the NYT review, X&Y received high praise it seemed. I don't see any exceptional reviews of GS or AHFOD. Unfortunately, it feels the band couldn't be happier with where they are, and don't feel the need to push further and deeper. I think what makes a great band is that they are never satisfied, always pushing for something better and different. Which is what made Coldplay so exceptional between the beginning and MX. Since Brian Eno left the studio, it's been downhill, and the band has become complacent. With that said, they've still produced some absolute gems (I am a huge fan of Ghost Story, O, Miracles (the older one), Oceans, AHFOD title track and Birds)

Coldplay to debut new song for Estamos Unidos Mexicanos concert
If they are not doing a studio release, I highly doubt that means they are going to use the live version in San Diego, solely because I think Chris' vocals were lacking in the live version. And if they redo it, it would be kind of short notice for the supposed Nov. Live album release.

What would you vote if Coldplay did a "request show"?
But if I were about to die and I could watch Coldplay perform any 10 songs... I made this list sometime towards the beginning of the tour after I realized how disappointing their setlist was for this tour. I thought this would be a perfect setlist if they decided to do some more touring in the future before the next album, and would please fans of all types. Belgium has qualified for the World Cup, and Eden Hazard is a huge face of football so it's possible. Either way, I really don't think the person in that snapchat picture is Eden Hazard.

I'm sure the guys will take a break for a good bit, they do have families after all. But i'm sure they have plenty of material and ideas by now to go into round 8 if they want to. My guess is they'll agree to take a decent break, but then everyone will have the itch to get going again sooner rather than later. I would LOVE if they did something structured similar to Ghost Stories again. They don't have to go on an all out, massive, 2 year touring album. Something more acoustic, organic, intimate and emotional again would be great. My ultimate dream though would be for them to hook up with Eno again. Please, for the love of god, ditch Stargate. And the Chainsmokers.

It is very obvious something with Chris changed b/w Viva and MX. Appearance, music, dancing. Definitely agree, he changed from an alt. rock star to a pop star. I tend to think this change has something to with someone that starts with G and ends with wyneth. Or the fact he was more surrounded by pop music and pop culture.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I think Chris Martin could shit on a plate and you all would like it. Nah I'm just kidding, to each their own. But Eno would never let that tune fly while he's in the studio.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
XMTS is the single worst track they've ever put on any studio album.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Interviewers don't ask questions that the diehard fans like us want to hear answered (like, I don't know, maybe questions about the actual music they create?). It pisses me off when interviewers ask about personal lives. I couldn't give 2 sh*ts about Gwyneth Paltrow. Zane Lowe's interview with Chris is the best interview. Both times with Howard Stern were great too, for the most part. I also really like the interviews when they come into their studio, or when they have them reflect on old albums. If I had 20 minutes with the band, like you said, I would ask about each song on the album, or how Chris wrote the song "Birds" or whatever, or their specific feelings a decade later on X&Y and each track on it. But the general public doesn't care about that. They care about how Beyonce is on the new album, or how Chris is dealing with his divorce. And I feel like I've watched/read every interview available for the entirety of the band's career, and I don't ever hear anything about the rest of the band's writing, like how Jonny comes up with his excellent lead guitar lines and riffs.
