-Does it annoy you when people don't like what you like?
No. What bugs me is when people are really rude about it, but that has nothing to do with taste, only manners. The two classics: "It must suck because I've never heard of it" and Nathan's favorite, "It's shit". The former doesn't matter from random people- if they want to be that closed-minded it's their problem. It hurts coming from friends, because I expect them to be at least a little bit less judgy and superficial than that. The latter type I usually just ignore as a jerk. If you're that against it, what's the point in even commenting? Unless it's Nathan who never quits, and then I picture him as one of those troll dolls- you know the ones with the rainbow hair and the little pink tutus? It bugs me when someone does it to someone else though- I don't care if they like Nickleback. I still would never say something like that to their face. Personally, I'm a geek. I know I'm a geek and that I geek out over lots of random geeky stuff. When I like something, I obsess over it. I get excessively excited. It's part of who I am. I try to keep most of my obsessions to myself so I don't annoy other people with them, but they tend to burst out sooner or later. When I share an interest, it's out of pure excitement and joy over it. I don't expect anyone else to like it. I'd be disappointed if everyone did, actually- it wouldn't seem so much like my thing anymore. But I really don't get it when people can't leave well enough alone. Like way back when I was getting into Babylon 5. Everyone else in the house didn't like it. Which was fine. The show was on at a time when nothing else was. Yet people still would flock around the tv the moment I turned it on and would whine about why would I want to watch that terrible show. I would tell them this is my show you don't have to watch it or like it. But it was like it was an affront to their dignity that the tv could possibly ever be tuned into something distasteful to them. It's the same on forums- if you don't like that thing, why repeatedly go into the same thread and repeatedly whine about how much you hate it? Seems like a waste of effort. ^"start thinking of reasons why you wouldn't like it" ...and so on. I suppose I've been guilty of that before. :embarrassed: But with me it more trying to figure out what rubbed them the wrong way about it. I'm curious. I'm from a critically trained and creative background, so getting to the root of what set someone off, and figuring out their motivations and reasoning is fascinating for me. People frequently don't like something for a different reason than they think they didn't on the surface, and getting to the heart of it tells me a lot about how the mind and perception works. Plus, useful criticism about something else helps me with my own creative stuff. ...Sigur Ros :nice: So you do like something.

^So a big glob in the middle of the screen? Is it black or muliticoloured? If you take a picture does it change at all? When you press on a white part of the screen, does it change the colour or make any ripples on the screen?

Welcome to Room 101
Well I've never seen your silly show except for that one clip. And it looked like he said something he didn't like and then the guy asked him questions about it. But you're not asking questions, are you? *looks at the clock* It's nearly 4am where you are, isn't it? No wonder troll is grumpy, he must be sleepy. Aww.

I say the same thing about the existence of Snuggies themselves.- Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games

1. Twilight. Because emo teenyboppers sobbing over Vampires don't belong at Comicon, and my favorite music does not belong on their ipods. There is no where left for me to escape them in any fandom. They have taken everything. 2. Vince. Need anything more be said: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rUbWjIKxrrs]YouTube- Vince with Slap Chop (Long version)[/ame] 3. The scum floating at the top of the Canadian pop charts. (Nickleback, Celine Dion, Avril Levigne, Headley, Sum 41, and those other Emo bands I can't think of the name of.) I'm tired of apologizing to the rest of the world for them. 4. Snuggies. Because they're Snuggies. Not Simon. If he's in room 101 never to be seen again, I'll never have a chance to give him a swift kick to the head.- Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games
Mark? :uhoh: Yes you did- on account of having one of the biggest hockey-watching audiences in your history.- Needed: Someone Proficient with Cameras
In what way is the screen screwed up? Like what does it look like? Does it work at all or is it just black? What does it act like?- When you feel you love someone, do you think about what loving someone entails?
I always think about it. I think that's what turned me into a commitment-phobe. :uhoh:- Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games
Well, as I've heard other people put it, this is our five dollar bill: Apparently that game was the biggest tv audience in Canadian history. Over 80% of the population tuned in at some point during it. :shocked2:- This is why videos are supposed to be embeddable.
Yeah, I can tell. I kinda get what you're getting at by saying you don't understand, but dude, you're on a music site. I get that you don't follow music much- especially Coldplay- and hey, that's fine. But when I make references to Coldplay videos on a Coldplay site, and talk about music industry politics on a music website, I think it's a reasonable guess that most more typical passers by might have an inkling about what Strawberry Swing means. So if you're going to stay out of the music world yet hang around a place with music fans, it's pretty likely you're eventually going to come across something that annoys some of us daily in the music world, but that isn't so relevant to your life or interests. If you really want to know what's going on, here's how Ok Go's lead singer wrote about the whole controversy in the New York times. http://www.nytimes.com/2010/02/20/opinion/20kulash.html My point? My point is that I just got you to watch an Ok Go video by embedding it in this thread. Many other people watched it too. It's likely some lurker had never even heard of Ok Go, but watched the video. You didn't like it. Maybe the lurker didn't either. But by embedding I gave you and him a chance to decide if you like it for yourselves. Just getting people to listen has been scientifically proven to be the most effective way to promote music: http://www.wired.com/magazine/2009/12/st_clive_thompson/ If this video had not been embeddable, many people who would watch it by pressing play here in this thread wouldn't bother to link over to Youtube to watch it. By demanding their 4 thousandths of a cent for you to watch their video by disabling embedding, record companies are denying themselves thousands of dollars worth of promotion. It's petty, but they're scared and anal.- This is why videos are supposed to be embeddable.
According to Wired, it is all one take. ...But it took 60 takes and resets to get it right. :dizzy: Finally found them, but thanks. :D Yeah I keep think of that one. But this one is so much bigger. :rolleyes4:- This is why videos are supposed to be embeddable.
I'm looking into it. http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2010/02/18/ok-go-hire-big-brains-for-this-too-shall-pass-video-watch-a-clip/# I keep thinking they must have broken it into overlapping pieces to make it work. But then it's a one-take film job. Outtakes are floating around out there, but they seem to be of practice runs of tiny sections of it. So maybe it was in one take. They had a bunch of genius physicist types set it up, though. More stuff here: http://www.spinner.ca/2010/02/25/ok-go-behind-the-scenes-exclusive-video/- This is why videos are supposed to be embeddable.
One of the most awesome videos in the history of the universe: :shocked2: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qybUFnY7Y8w]YouTube- OK Go - This Too Shall Pass - RGM version[/ame] ...Anyone want to know why that wasn't Strawberry Swing? Try to embed it. Remember that treadmill video these guys did? The one that was embedded across the entire internet? Try embedding it now. Doesn't work. But that's the video that made them famous and made EMI lots of money you say. Yes. But they would rather make 20$ for the video than thousands for the cd. Why is this one here? EMI made State Farm pay for it for us. Why does this belong in the lounge rather than music or news? Because it belongs in both and I can't decide which and when you get over your awe, bitching about how stupid record companies can be is a pasttime best suited to the lounge. ...And everyone NEEDS to see that video. :D- Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games

That's what I want to know. :bomb: No, I don't think so. The best way I've heard it described is that a bunch of 50-something white guys looked at the local top 40 radio charts from 2002 and decided that it was the best way to look hip for the kids. :sick2: So many amazing bands, but the crappy ones always get the most attention locally.- I need a song
"Everything I know is wrong Everything I do just comes undone And everything is torn apart " ...Perhaps corny, but true. There's a really good one on the tip of my brain, but I can't quite remember how it goes. :bomb: Gaah that drive me crazy.- Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games
Aw, well the US were brilliant- that was probably the best game I've ever seen. You guys have a lot to be proud of. Yay!- Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games
Dude. I'm jealous now. Sounds like a blast out there nationwide. It was a fun ceremony... very, very silly once it got going. Worth looking up for a laugh. (And then there was a Nickleback/Avril/Simple Plan/Atlantis Morissette/Headly back to back performance at the end that kind of ruined it all until K-os came out.) Yeah, if Shatner's bit about canoe splinters didn't do it, at least Buble in a Mountie costume singing the Maple Leaf forever should have given it away (not that the international press ever seems to get Buble's sense of humor). But if they hadn't figured by the giant inflable beaver and the dancing maple leaves, and the flying moose... well there's no hope for the oblivious by that point.- Coldplay heard in the Olympics
They were playing Viva la Vida as the athletes left the stadium after the closing ceremony.- COLDPLAYING'S ALBUMS OF THE DECADE! VOTING CLOSED
Take your time, no hurry. It usually takes me 2 or 3 days to compile everything if I started making an album list before it closed, and that's with 25 or 30 albums on the longest lists. Do you have a spreadsheet program you know how to use? That's going to make it a lot easier.- Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games
^No, not really. ...I wonder how many people watching internationally actually realized that was all meant to be a giant piss-take... :uhoh: - Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games
