Rolling Stone's Music of the Decade Reader's Poll
Rolling Stone Readers’ Poll: Greatest Music of the Decade So basically, they're letting everyone else have a say before they make their own list. It could be a good move if enough of the right people who care vote. Which is where you lot come in. Click here to go straight to the poll I know plenty may disagree with me, but I really, truly think that no album represented this decade better musically or thematically than Arcade Fire's "Funeral". Vote with your conscience, of course, but I think it could use some love. (I also voted for Radiohead for band and Coldplay's Clocks for song if anyone's curious) I suppose someone ought to post about this in the Coldplay section.... but I didn't have the heart. :P

Doctor Who ???......
I've probably said it in here before, but I loved Eccleston so much as the doctor I promised myself I wouldn't watch the show without him. And DT looked like a weasel in his coat...I thought it was a miserable choice. Now look at me, hopeless DT fangirl that I've become... So I'm going to try not to judge Matt Smith until I've actually seen him in character for more than one episode. Actually, if you want an example of why he's probably good for the role, look up "Matt Smith" and "Party Animals" on youtube.

L O S T
Heh, yeah. SPOILER ALERT! ;):laugh3: This is the reason we have traditionally been using separate Lost threads for each season. The series airs at such different times worldwide and then there are all the people catching up too. I never had a problem with Michael showing up, but then when you see the whole backstory it makes a lot of sense.

Albums of the Year 2009 *Now Closed*
:D Glad to hear.  Gonna have to think about that one when I get a chance to look things up. The rules say December though, so if it was released then I guess I'll probably have to allow it.

NME Albums of the Decade
:shocked2::inquisitive: Good point. How did that one not make the list? It was certainly big and influential enough what with forcing the new new wave to go mainstream and all, which is still one of the major forces at the moment... Maybe it had something to do with the feathers? I don't doubt for one moment that it could be something that shallow...:dozey:

New Moon!!! It deserves its own thread!!! :)
:anxious: :curtain: *hides* I'm not here. This isn't happening. :bigcry: It's everywhere and it won't go away. I want my world back. I want my Muse back. Gah! :bigcry: :bigcry: :bigcry: Whatever happened to Spike being the hot vampire anyway? :escaping:

NME Albums of the Decade
No, it means magazines are biased. Therefore their lists are fun to have civilized debates over. (Civilized meaning capable of acting older than 12 and realizing that their favorite or even the best albums might not be represented. :p ;)) Wow- was it really that good? They've never made much of an impression on me before...

Do you take Vitamin D pills? Or is sunshine your lone source?
^Aches and pains in your bones and joints in the winter actually are the main symptom of vitamin D deficiency. I had a lightbox for years for the seratonin (melatonin helps you sleep) before I started taking vitamin D and it helped a lot. But nothing made as big a difference as just a little extra vit D every day. I couldn't believe how much better I felt. This far north in winter between the low sun and bundling up for the cold if we ever dare go outside at all, we get next to no vit D naturally.

Doctor Who ???......
^You might see them filming with the new guy. They've been doing location shoots all over the place lately last I checked. If you see a redhead in a miniskirt that would be the new girl. Karen Gillan, I think her name is. She looks cute. Still not sure about Mr. Smith, but I think I'll like her.

Leonid Meteor Shower 2009 MONDAY NIGHT!
I saw one before I went to bed. I got up early just before dawn to see if I could see anymore, but no luck. Too much light from the city, I guess. And wrong time zone.

Do you take Vitamin D pills? Or is sunshine your lone source?
^ Yeah, I take lots of them all the time. They keep me from getting achy and depressed in the winter. (Stupid SAD *grumble*)

Doctor Who ???......
Someone ood's read too many bad Doctor Who headlines in the papers.

NME Albums of the Decade
Agreed. And I will begrudgingly admit, I'm a bit surprised they couldn't have gotten off their high horse and put Parachutes in, as it fits. (Or Amnesiac for that matter). But they do have albums from The Knife and Broken Social Scene and Belle and Sebastian too. I wasn't expecting those. Thus I'm happy.

Doctor Who ???......
^I've noticed. :dozey: ...one ood pun too many. They're too easy, really.

Albums of the Year 2009 *Now Closed*
^I'm compiling a temporary list of eligible albums that have been mentioned so far. (Saves time at the end.) It's very long and very good. I'm going to post it this year as soon as I find a bit of time to get it finished.

There's one on it's way... we've got it all lined up for when they yearly list finishes.

NME Albums of the Decade
Yes... but that in itself is a reflection of the decade in a way- it's the decade that the music world fractured into radically different music groups, and the champion of each group is going to make a certain type of list. Pitchfork made one kind of list full of Pitchfork-y albums. Rolling Stone made or will make another kind of list. Each gives a view of their subset through the decade. So the NME left off that type of album. That was a distinct category of music that isn't really part of their world view. *shrug* If that kind of music had had it's champion we would have had a list dominated by it. I'm just glad they never came up with a name for it. Someone really should have. Any other decade they would have. But then it would have been "eww I don't like that kind of music. anyone who likes that kind of music should die." See emo- if we had just kept calling it pop-punk, people would have strongly disliked it, but they wouldn't have had a compact target for hatred like with emo. Without a name, it was like throwing darts at a moving board. They hated it but couldn't really come up with a 'thing' to aim at, and as a result others let it slip into 'cool' lists because it wasn't categorized as something they weren't allowed to like any more. The downside is that without a name that culture stream never really developed a core to hold it together either. It was more just understood- if you like Keane you'll probably like Travis too. But that's exactly why this board needs it's own albums of the decade list. And there's your problem right there. :P

Doctor Who ???......
^Google her. You'll see. Hmm... well I guess someone has to keep order... Interesting that they seem to be somewhat resistant to changes in the timeline... :inquisitive:

Coldplay age demographic survey (fangirls only plz.)
Yeah, 12-year-olds are more likely to blindly follow, but for real intensity, nothing not even a 12-year-old can come anywhere near the giant walking hormone that is a 14-year-old. That's a special kind of crazy.
-
Doctor Who ???......
Yep. In the category of causing it all to happen, he's gone and pulled a John Lennon... Scary, but hard to blame him. He's been put through so much lately it's kind of surprising he hasn't cracked before now in hindsight. Tough episode....still trying to process. ^^*cough*MadMarthaisyourfriend*coughcough*

NME Albums of the Decade
That's actually a surprisingly good list overall, if you look at the details rather than the top ten. Of course it's an NME list, so of course NME bands are going to rank unfairly high. Almost anyone could have predicted the Libertines, the Strokes and the Arctic Monkeys before looking at this. Those are the bands that defined the magazines whole view of the decade. But look at all the other stuff that made it. Some great stuff made the cut too, and I bet you aren't going to see most of it on more mainstream-oriented lists. Forgetting the obvious, this is a list that reminds me how cool some of the decade has been. :nice:

Oh come on... everyone knows the craziest fangirls in the universe are always either 14 or 15.

Albums of the Year 2009 *Now Closed*
^Well I'm still looking, but I can't find anything about an earlier release date. Chances are, anything useful is in Danish. I'm inclined to allow it based on the international release simply on account of I can't be arsed. Well...and I'm pretty sure no one voted for it last year. ;)
