2009 albums worth hearing
Hmm... haven't heard it yet, but it would be hard to top the last one, wouldn't it? Still want to listen sometime...

Great. Do I hear a third? Any extreme objections?

Here's my thoughts on soundtracks. It has to be an original studio album. If all the material is brand new and was recorded for that soundtrack then it's fine. If it's a collection of existing recordings, it isn't. New Moon. Tricky. Very tricky. Most of the songs are both new and specially recorded as I understand it. But there are pre-existing tracks. But at least one of those was remixed which makes it not sooo bad. :waffle: I need feedback on this one. If lots of people yelling their vote at me doesn't work, I'll arbitrarily set a percentage for new material. I'll go by your old list if that's ok- I still need to read it as a list when compiling. Give me a heads up if you write a new list so I can change it.

Have an album you think everyone else isn't loving enough? Tell us about it. Write a post about that album. You can write a few facts, your impressions of their music, what got you into them, summarize critical reviews, you get the idea. Whatever you think will make people want to listen to that album. Include links and videos so we can check them out ourselves. (Face it, people are too lazy to look for their myspace page themselves.) If enough people want to write blurbs, I'll link to them on the first page.

Briggins 2009 album recommendations (updated Nov 3)
Oi! Who do you think you are calling Muse mainstream crap! :P I have yet to once hear them on C100. :smartass: And still can't stop listening over and over and over... it's a sickness I tell you, a sickness.... :uhoh: On a serious note, glad to see this back again. I've pretty much given up on being really struck by anything new this year at this point. But maybe I'll be surprised.

The blurbs seem to have fallen flat on their face for the most part, outside of your threads. But if you really want to blurb, blurb away. That sounds odd....:laugh3:

Your futile attempt to rid me of my dominance has FAILED
:laugh3: Wow. Who needs alias day? It's been a long time since a user name made me giggle that much. P.S. Why not the universe while you're at it? And where's Pinky? :borg:

English language...
I would use the second one myself. The up is fine but unnecessary. It doesn't add anything to the sentence. Heh... I even majored in English in university and I still can't spell. But it made me annoyingly picky about grammar. I still can't get over how many people around here speak amazing English even though they're just learning it. I took French for years and years in school and still can't piece a sentence together to save my life.

Busted!
...I'm quickly remembering why I stopped hanging around in the picture threads a looong time ago. :P :laugh3: And yes, tabs are your friend. But laughing something off is much more effective than clamming up and being embarrassed. If you can laugh at it and yourself and never let on that you're embarrased they'll laugh and tease a bit and that will be the end of it because hey, it wasn't serious or anything, right? If you act embarrased, they'll know it was important. And then comes the trouble. That goes for any obsession, I've found.

How many of you actually like Coldplay?
Heh... you try thinking that clearly when you're that starstruck. Even with a Brit around I ended up on that great Canadian standby- the weather. Anyway... 3am... bedtime.

Heh... I knew exactly what I wanted to say but I was still too chicken to say it. "That album you just signed completely changed my life." But how do you say something like that without choking up or sounding like you're exaggerating?

Halifax Metro Centre at the back door when he was coming out of soundcheck for the Juno awards. I was the idiot all exhausted from the previous night's Broken Social Scene concert or I would have made it sooner and met the other guys too, but I just missed them. It was a cool moment: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showpost.php?p=1498388&postcount=130 and http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=27342&highlight=juno&page=14 If you want to know more. Or it's only the beginning... I'm coming at it like a writer, but when I started to figure that stuff out was when I finally started to figure out how to make characters more than cardboard cutouts. It's done wonders for my imagination. Maybe you just need a different subject?

How many of you actually like Coldplay?
Heh... I met Chris back in 2006. Yes he was gorgeous and one of the nicest people I've ever met- very patient with us silly fans. But the main thing I noticed was how insanely thin he was. I couldn't get over it. That's what I think she's getting at. You see an ad on a bus for a local radio station and there's a great big Chris on it with a bunch of other musicians, and you don't get that sense of humanity the way you do when a person is standing nearby.

How many of you actually like Coldplay?
Now here's the brilliant important thing about that. If Coldplay, who you love so much, can ultimately be an image or a shell or mask or projection or something, how much more so the things out there that you just take for granted? The models in the magazines, or politicians on tv? The actors you envy or drool over? The girl at school or work who always seems so perfect but actually has a lot of crap going on in her life that you don't know about? Coldplay are trying to be themselves as far as I can tell. Those magazines, they aren't. Sure you see a perfect image and want to look just like it, but that photo won't show you the hundreds of bobby pins on the back of her head pulling most of her hair back so that it looks perfect from that one camera angle, and it certainly won't show you all of the photoshopping that happened afterward. And when you can realize that, when you can see all the fragile humanity behind all of the masks and not judge yourself based on them? Then you will be free. Free from all of the crap this entire culture is so obsessed with. :flutterby:

The Dresden Dolls
I had never heard anything but the name until this year when she started dating one of my favorite authors Neil Gaiman. She's crazy but I like her. Their music is not exactly my thing, but it's well done. I really like this one- though it's from her solo album not one of the Dolls' songs: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1O6GqCwjh-k]YouTube - Astronaut - "Who Killed Amanda Palmer" Video Series: Part 2[/ame]

I think I get what you're saying. What we love, in a fangirlish sort of way is the image of them that's projected to the public rather than the guys themselves. Because even the most earnest and open performer still needs to project something in order for fans to connect to them, and really to protect themselves in a way. It's like that clip of Chris from The Hour where the camera caught him for just a moment where he wasn't "on" and I remember it freaked a lot of people around here out to see him like that: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG3kELXj30E]YouTube - Coldplay Exclusive - The Hour with George Stroumboulopoulos[/ame] And now you're starting to see the image for the image and it's freaking you out a little bit. Welcome to the wonderful world of growing up. Congratulations. Many (if not most) adults never even make it to that point. Me, I love most of their music dearly, and I think that unlike most "celebrities" they're people I would genuinely like if I got to know them in real life as people. But I also know I'm basing that impression on the image, and I've had to come to terms with that as a fan. It's all good.
