OMG I WANT A SNIPPET OF LP5 NOW!
  2. I'm still adamant he says "will call my name". Why would you not be able to explain non-admission to Heaven, after not speaking an honest word?
  3. Biblical References do not equal being deluded/religious (synonymous). They are populist ways of getting across a point. In 'Viva La Vida' the point is that power and control corrupts.
  4. If someone could PM me the link I would be eternally thankful!!
  5. The "once you'd gone" also introduces another person to the story. A partner? Does it mean that when this girl left him he went 'off the rails'? I think it could quite easily be 'will call my name' for the following reasons: As has been discussed in other threads it appears the song is about realising mistakes made when in control/power. The Catholic faith advocates forgiveness. This also fits with the previous line. This ALSO fits with the line 'BUT that was when I ruled the world', i.e. implying that NOW there ARE honest words/work. I think it probably IS 'will'
  6. The first chorus he sings "Once you'd gone there was never, never an honest word" And the second chorus he definitely sings "Roman Catholic" So, so incredible a song.
  7. I'm a bit in-between on Fix You. I now struggle to listen to it and love it, but I remember when the album first came out and I did what I always do when I buy a new album. I go to my room, turn the lights out, draw the curtains, lie on my bed and put it on all the way through. When Fix You was finished, I got up and had to go sit down for a while. It was absolutely epic. Now it doesn't ring so true. For me, Speed of Sound was a very weak song. I remember listening to it and not particularly liking it. It's true though; the second singles are the ones people remember. Yellow, Scientist and Fix You would probably be the top 3 most universally popular songs they've released.
  8. In Violet Hill, at first I thought I heard "Ku Klux Klan and Bibles". That was funnyyyyyyyy.
  9. Coldplay are not indie, and they never have been. If they ever will be, then this is a step in the right direction. Parachutes, AROBTTH and X&Y were not indie. They are pop albums, reaching into VERY soft pop-rock at its outer limits, and anyone who thinks they are indie is deluding themselves beyond all measure. Coldplay are incredible, but they are a pop band.
  10. I think that's quite plausible, definitely. I'd love to see DCFC as an influence, their free style is just so unchained. Have you heard I Will Possess Your Heart? F**king in love with that song right now.
  11. The logistics of it might not be QUITE so complicated as producing and selling hard copies of the single :P I agree though, although 'generous' isn't the word I'd use, but it's a fantastic idea :D
  12. When a band like Coldplay takes 3 years to produce new material, the build-up to its release is always going to be highly anticipated and speculated about. The time, however, is here; Violet Hill was aired for the first time yesterday, and is available as a free download on their official site. So now, the question is whether it was worth the wait. The short answer is "yes". The much-touted new direction is evident in the mid-section's guitar solo, in the more deliberated lyrics, in the atmospheric introduction which, unlike so much of X&Y, reverberates without arrogance or pretentiousness. But this is still Coldplay. It still has that edge. It is still going to be screamed along to in sold-out venues. Eno's production shows, and although the song's structure is not massively unconventional, it still shows a desire to move that way. Given also that this will undoubtedly be one of the most populist songs on the new album, things bode well for Martin and company. What Coldplay have managed to produce is a song no less incredible on its surface than underneath. There is no hidden depth or inspiring quality to this track, but only because it is so blatant that it hurts. As the haunting line "Priests hold onto Bibles/Hollowed out to fit their rifles" echoes through a sharp piano and guitar, you have to wonder whether this could be the start of something very, very good indeed.
  13. (And you should go back to art school since your first post implied that green + yellow = blue, until you edited it)
  14. Please go listen to Mozart, then. I read this website so often but your post is the first in a long time that has encouraged me to sign in and say something. What you're saying DOESN'T MATTER. I'm pretty sure it's yellow and blue that equal green, but I get it anyway. What I'm trying to say is maybe people don't want to see a pure shade of primary-colour blue =). If you think music needs to be perfect to be perfect...you're daft.
  15. Knotty replied to nmsv's topic in Violet Hill
It's definitely: "Priests clutched onto bibles Hollowed out to fit their rifles" That is definitely, 100%, what he sings. It's also one of the best lines I've ever seen in any song.
  16. Are The Libertines musically perfect? Are they popular? I have no idea about music theory, but I do know one thing. It doesn't matter. To me, it sounds perfect. If you think everything has to be in-line, in-sync and in-tune for a song to work, then you are very simply wrong. The ONLY thing I agree with you about is the clipping of 'Priests' but the rest of what you just wrote, however much you state the contrary, is music snobbery.
  17. Yes _____ Come back to me in the middle of spring Memories I keep re-awakening Kicking the gate as I'm running out You asked me what it was all about I'm just a scared boy living in hell Screaming in vain at the place I fell If anything could ever set me free It's the thought that you might be in love with me If you'd only, if you'd only say 'Yes' I'm just so tired of this loneliness If you'd only, if you'd only say 'Yes' I'm just so tired of this loneliness Stars in the ground that fell from your eyes Remind me of times that I realised Fields of gold behind your back yard Begging for love, never got that far Sometimes I swear you were asking me But I was as shy as you knew I'd be Letting it slide in the evening sun Even though I know that you're the one If you'd only, if you'd only say 'Yes' I'm just so tired of this loneliness If you'd only, if you'd only say 'Yes' I'm just so tired of this loneliness And one day I'm sure I Will leap before I look And I promise I'll never glance back I don't know what I'm for But the chances we took Might make up for the things that I lack And if you, if you'd only say yes But that's just the thing, that I never can guess But if you, if you'd only say something Maybe this whole thing will turn out right
  18. To me it implies that 'viva la vida' ('live life') and 'death and all his friends ' are two phrases that mean the same thing...what that could mean, I'm not sure, but it's not the first time 'or' has been used as a technique in titles etc. Michel Tournier has a story called "Amandine ou les deux jardins", for example. I actually freaking love the title. Although abbreviating it is gonna be a bitch! Oh, and as for the quotation marks and the people saying "LOLZ OMGZ r u retard? its clrly nt ment 2 b all 1 title", all I'll say is if you actually read what is very clearly written on the page, then the grammatical conclusion is that it's all 1 title.

  21. I don't think it'll be a matter of months. My guess is late October. The increase in journal entries by Prospekt was clearly meant to generate hype and it's a bad PR manager they've got if his idea of building anticipation is to get people excited then make them wait 10 weeks; I also seriously doubt that Prospekt can keep posting interesting news at this rate. I'd expect a release date by the 10th October, myself - maybe a little later than that.

When I'm listening to certain Coldplay tracks, especially from ROBTTH, I do Chris's dancy thing where he basically hops on one leg back and forth. Does anyone else do this? I can't help it!
  24. I hate it when my caps lock gets stuck like that. Please don't talk in caps, it's really irritating, looks like you're shouting. A thread has been done like this, but I'll vote again - ROBTTH
  25. Knotty replied to Pindaric's topic in Coldplay
They were called Starfish till another band called Coldplay split up and didn't need their name any more, so they gave it to Coldplay. It's in the FAQ section of http://www.coldplay.com
