honestly, i don't think coldplay would even be in my top 10 list of favorite bands right now. :lol:

again, i'll be the only person to take this seriously... :P you're the only person here who knows enough about your life to have any idea what that means. often dreams don't mean anything, but if it's recurring, there's probably something behind it that's bothering you. i used to have a recurring dream where i was riding in my mom's car, and all of a sudden she wasn't in the car, and i was left on my own, and i invariably crashed and died. i realize now that it probably stemmed from a fear of my mom leaving me all alone in the world (which was a perfectly rational fear at the time, given some things that happened in my life when i was a wee lad). so yeah, sorry for using that as an opportunity to talk about me, but you know, just look for symbolism and such.

how the hell did you even start up the computer without an operating system? :stunned: my computer has crashed probably 4 or 5 times since i got it a year and a half ago... windows xp seems to be remarkably good at keeping this thing in order.

well, the way i see it is that if radiohead hadn't come first, coldplay probably wouldn't exist as we know them today... obviously that doesn't mean everything, because the beatles probably wouldn't have existed without elvis presley, but we all know who was the better of those two. personally i like radiohead more.

so either i'm a moron or everybody else is a moron. probably both. :lol:

there are two ways to look at this: 1. contributions to music in general- U2 has been a household name for 20 years now. they had a sound that was theirs and theirs alone... coldplay have released two albums, one of which isn't that great, and neither of which are particularly original (which isn't to say they aren't good, but it's not the stuff of legend)... unless they get a HELL of a lot better than they are, they'll never come remotely close to being the next U2. hell, have you actually listened to "moses?" that song couldn't rip off U2 more if it tried. chris martin even seems more and more like a poor man's bono, both in terms of stage presence and political awareness. 2. popularity - in this regard, coldplay already are the next U2, or close to it. but i would doubt if they're as big in 2024 as they are in 2004, whereas U2 will probably still be doing some ridiculous rolling stones style tour with two or three original members and all the songs transposed down because bono's voice can't hit the high notes anymore. that's my rant on that.

yeah, i think radiohead have a few dates in japan, a few in austrailia, and then coachella, and that's it for the year for them. i've never been to a huge festival like that before, because they're not all too common in the US, especially this part of the country. i really wanted to go to the field day festival in june, but i just couldn't justify spending that much on it, then the whole thing started falling through anyway... i have a friend who went, but his parents basically give him all the money he wants/needs. :rolleyes:

yeah, is there anybody here who's not going to give themselves a high score? and now that i've said that i'm going to go ahead and respond to it anyway. :rolleyes: i think i have a more diverse taste than most people, for whatever that's worth. and i'm just as likely to listen to obscure band x as i am to major label top 40 band x (although admittedly my cd collection leans heavily toward indie groups). just in the past couple days i've had on john coltrane, bjork, the beach boys, rachnaninov, outkast, tortoise, aphex twin, air, stevie wonder, kraftwerk, the b-52's, explosions in the sky, and more... so you tell me how my taste is. of course i'm going to think it's good. but then again, i know lots of people are that way. i just think it's weird when people are asked what their favorite groups are and they respond with a bunch of groups that, in the grand scheme of things, sound exactly the same (coldplay, travis, and starsailor, for example :P )
