lore was upset that the thread was so off-topic, so she merged two threads and everything got messy. i was angered by that, since she didn't consult with anyone on the matter and it just made a mess while making nothing better. things deteriorated from there. now, however, i think jen and i are going to weed through the posts and UNMERGE as best we can, while also MOVING all off topic posts to another thread (or just leaving them in this one, i guess). it's going to take a while, but i think everything will go back to normal, minus the jaffa cake talk. it's all for clarity's sake. however, so nothing like this happens again, please stay on topic of the project. i know i'm going to, now that i was made aware people were upset. just be a bit patient and the new and improved old thread will come back, i think :D

that's a shame, lore, because if it's really going to be sorted out like it seems, the project and the new, clear thread won't be the same without you :sad:.

i'm completely willing to help with any grunt work :D. i think this will be best for the clarity of the project, and will make monday all the better.

the reason i don't allow myself to get angry is because i don't handle it well. i'm stunned that i let this get to me, but it did, and because i don't handle anger well, it's going to be hard for me to step back from it. i know what i think should be done, but i don't see it happening. i think now what i should do, after i've thoroughly embarrassed myself by getting angry over a THREAD, is just step back from all this. i'll come back in here on monday and have my squee and have done with it. i don't mean to be childish by pouting in the corner. my point is that i'm not going to go on talking about what i think should be done and why i think this was a bad decision if no one's going to consider what i'm saying anyway. i might as well just remove myself from the thread, which is just a mess now in more ways than one, and focus on the outcome of the project, without a thread to do it in. i'm just being angry and annoying and it's not getting anyone anywhere if we're not going to consider each others' opinions on how to fix it, and if we're just going to point fingers about who messed it up in the first place. rather than arguing about it, i think we should FIX it together, but i don't see that happening either. if things start to improve in terms of clarity, i'll come back in and help out with anything that's needed. but if this is just going to remain a big pile of mixed-up laundry, i might as well not sort through it. i'm sorry for pissing off whoever from the get-go (though i wish someone had told me), and i'm sorry for letting this small matter of a thread make me angry :P. i'm embarrassed, and i don't see constructive discussion on how to make this better, so i'm out, short of a few squees on monday :wink:.

ok, lore, i'm sorry. it's true, i think we should be allowed to go off-topic. i understand you disagree with that. you could have made it more obvious, to me and the other posters, before changing everything. you could have PMed me or IMed me or something. but if no one was replying, you then seem to be the only person that was really that put off by it. i didn't see much confusion, either, nothing that wasn't cleared up in one replied post. i know i'm hammering this to death, and i very rarely get mad, but this is pissing me off because in my opinion, all the wrong roads were taken and it just got worse anyway. to make it even more annoying, i'm angry, and i don't like being angry :P

:cheesy: thank you for finding it :kiss: my edits on it were deleted, though i know that's some glitch's fault. i STILL think the threads should be unmerged (i'll do the grunt work and report back to a mod), but it would help at least if that was changed to the first post. lore, than you should have TOLD me that. if you saw i didn't see it in the thread, you could have PMed me or IMed me, not just taken everything into your own hands. and i'm not talking about just checking with ME, i'm talking about you checking with EVERYONE, seeing if people agreed. we could have tried harder to control the offtopicness, but no one really seemed to mind it. if it bothered you that much, you should have tried harder to get it fixed before changing everything.

i'd also be willing to wade through and find where the two threads meet, and to do some grunt work if no one else is willing to do it. then i can tell an admin/mod so it's easier on them. i just think this needs to be done for clarity's sake, especially since we need everything to be sorted and clear by MONDAY. i think this was a bad time to make a drastic change in the way things run. i should shut up, but this is really irking me that it wasn't a joint decision to make any change--it just happened.

i'll fix the note in the first post if you want me to, lore. you could have asked me that all along. i wasn't even aware until today that you were this adamant about the offtopicness. i think you're taking it too seriously, but you could have ASKED me to remove that or ASKED me to make things more clear before you made a rash decision in merging the threads and starting all this. i know you're probably not going to listen to me because you're mad at me, ian too, but i think the threads should be unmerged to their original states. then i'll fix the first post and we'll implement a new no-off-topic policy so everything will ONLY be postcards related from thereon in, especially since it's getting to be the date soon. i'll make a new jaffa cake thread in the lounge if you want, and all will be back to normal and clear, unlike it is now. i'm sorry i made the jaffa cakes reference in that post, but people are just having fun with the jaffa cake talk. what else are we going to do while we wait? if you really feel THAT strongly about it, we can make the thread rules stricter from here on in, but i really think the threads should be unmerged for the sake of the project and clarity, and not for any other reason. i'll make any edits you want me to to keep people from whining and fights like this from breaking out.

ok, well at least the redirect problem was fixed, but this is still a complete mess in my opinion. i'm not saying all this to get MY thread back or whatever--that's not what i care about. i care about the clarity of the first post and the title, and consistency with what people are used to. everyone's going to be thrown off now because the title and the first post are different, and there was a huge jump in number of pages and number of posts with the merge, and people aren't going to be able to identify the thread anymore and are going to go digging to find the old one they're used to and come up fruitless.

can someone just redirect me to where my old first post is, then? i'd still like to fix it. i know that lore didn't delete what i was working on, i think it was a glitch with the site, but all my edits to the old first post in the old active are now gone, and i can't even find the original post. if you ask me, i think the threads should be unmerged and i'll fix what i said i would, but i know i don't have decision-making power. however, BOTH threads were off topic, and now we have one, huge, confusing off topic thread instead of two smaller ones, one of which i can fix to be better. i just think we're overreacting to the off-topicness, since every thread gets off-topic.

oh, and now www.coldplaying.com/postcards redirects nowhere. i think that should stay consistent with the old thread, so non-coldplayers that participated in the project can stay updated too.

i understand your point, but now it's really messy. the thread title is different, so people will be confused on whether or not this is the same thread to look in as the one before. the first post is different, so it seems confusing and not as clear. i understand you didn't delete the post i was working on, but i was in the process of updating it to fit your standards, with much more detail than this new first post now has, and now it's gone due to a glitch. things are going to get off topic, and i think at a time when news is imminent, it was a mistake to drastically change things. but that's just my personal opinion. whatever, i'm not going to fight over this, but i think it's worse now and that this will create confusion, more than the old thread ever did. besides, i was fixing it anyway to be better and fix everyones complaints.

um, ok, now i'm completely confused with the thread merge. i'm not trying to be all "i'm right, you're wrong," but i think this makes everything more confusing. AND i was in the process of editing the first post again too to make everyone stop whining, and it just got deleted, as did my response to your post. i think this just made everything worse.

ok. debs's three most recent, important posts are now in the first post. sorry for not doing that all along, but i feel people look more at thread titles than first posts anyway, and people have been quoting debs left and right. i feel liked it worked out pretty well even without the first post being constantly updated. my mom just sent me a valentine's day box, and one of the things inside was a box of jaffa cakes :nice: :P

oh god, now i really want doritos... and i like the off topic :wacky:, especially since the news is now in the first post. i probably should have been quoting debs's posts in the first post all along, but this is probably the only one that contains concrete information, so i don't think it would have done that much good anyway to put them up there. however, i'm going to digging and fix that now, even though it's a bit late :P

haha, yes, my college makes you take gym class :dozey:. in many ways, my college is more like a public high school than anything else, which i hate. anyway, i think i'm going to do that :D. i've always been a bit paranoid about going on coldplaying and stuff on the library computers because there's no privacy and everyone looks over your shoulders at what you're doing, but in a flash of remembrance today, i realized i could just check out a laptop computer for a few hours and sit with my back up against a wall and no one will know i'm a fangirl :P

i'm allowed one cut of gym class here at uni. i think i might take that cut on monday and go to the library, rent a laptop and STALK both here and the official site (or SQUEE on here if it's already been posted by then) for an extra hour :P. i'm so bad :lol:. then again, it's a permitted skip, but still, i always say that just because you're allowed to skip once doesn't mean you're SUPPOSED to. anyway, this is coldplay, this is postcards, i'm doing it :P

oh my god, what happened to him?! i'm not a big fan of leather, but other than that skirt or shorts or whatever it is, and grey shoes with black tights, i think gwyneth looks really pretty :nice:

i SHOULD have off from uni on monday, but nooo, they assume we shouldn't have holidays off just because we live on campus :bigcry: anyway, i should just be thankful its not wednesday or thursday, since those are my long days :P

CNN is on constantly all over my school on big monitors, so on monday after the grammys, every time i looked up they were doing a summary of the grammys and there was a lot of coldplay footage :wacky:. it was nice having coldplay follow me from the cafeteria to the gym and everywhere i went :nice:

hahahhahaa :lol: that's exactly what i've been hoping he did! i hope to have that on video :P
