Gwyneth...
hahahaha, that article is hysterical. i'm kind of stunned that gwyneth was ever a size 10. not that size 10 is anything to be ashamed about, but she always looked like such a stick that i figured at her biggest, she was like a 6, and now she would be like a 2. i feel like a 6 is a pretty healthy size for most people (but what do i know). if she goes smaller than that, though, that's absurd. oh, wait. are british womens' sizes drastically different than US sizes? because in US sizes, i'm a 6. i feel like gwyneth is smaller than that... EDIT: i found a size chart at the front of my diary...a US 8 is a GB 6. all the sizes are one number off

all you guys have gotten me so intent on hunting mine down in the video! :P i know my bush one made it at least, thanks to debs, but at the end of the video, right before the puppets start talking, jonny is holding one and flips it over to read...i think that miiiiight be mine! (it's a stretch, though)

Chris = godfather to be?
aww, yay! that's so nice :nice:. i'm in love with simon pegg. i think chris could be the godfather (i get a picture in my head of marlon brando with chris's head ), or nick frost, who is one of simon's other best friends and who was the best man at his wedding and all that. could be either :D

wow, debs, thanks for confirming for some people! i can't believe you're still sticking around with us crazies  if i was two degrees more neurotic i'd probably have asked if you'd seen mine, but you mentioned a george bush one in your big long report, and that was one of mine :P (unless someone else sent one in like that too :uhoh: ) if you're ever lurking again and have the time, i know a lot of us are curious as to where the cards are now :D i think all of this has slowly been hitting me in small pieces. it also makes me kind of really happy that when ian and jen and the others spoke to phil at the warchild gig, we were refered to as "the ones who sent the postcards" :nice: :P

:cheesy: it's probably really selfish and annoyingly smug to say, but it makes me really happy that at least for a bit, we're known as the guys that sent the postcards :nice: . do you think phil was serious when he said he visited here THREE TIMES A DAY? :freak: that blows my mind . i wonder if he just said that to be nice...?

Damn well robbed!
oh ok, so SOME awards are publically voteable, some are not. that's a bit strange . thanks for clearing that up. yes, if these awards were determined by experts in the field, then i'm still stunned coldplay didn't win a single thing. i mean jeez, their sales, popularity, and critical acclaim should mean they're reaping in the awards.
-
Gwyneth...
nah, i should have guessed. this is CHRIS MARTIN, we're talking about . an ambiguous point and a few waves in a general direction is all we're going to get. i swear, if he had been, i think that would have made the front page of the new york times :P
-
Damn well robbed!
that's a good point. i often forget how much smaller the UK is than where i'm from :P. but yeah, i still think they should have gone to you guys sooner. if the brits are like the grammys, then how come you can vote for them online and by text? you definitely can't do that with the grammys and the oscars.
-
Gwyneth...
ohhh, ok. well that's great! :wacky: thanks for posting. he's so adorable :nice: for some reason, i immediately jumped to the conclusion that you meant he was all over her PHYSICALLY, but that would have been like, headline news, so that was stupid of me to assume . i'm tired :P

Damn well robbed!
i'm more surprised than angry still, but i see mich's point. i'm not there to see it, obviously, but it seems like the UK really did get pretty well snubbed for the most part in 2008, save for three weeks in december or whatever it was. that's nothing compared to what they did in the rest of the world. even though the UK is a small place and all that, i think their home nation should have gotten a bit more attention than 2-3 weeks at the very end of their tour. still, though, even though i'm a bit unclear on how the brits work in terms of voting and all (i voted, i promise, but i've been too busy to read all the terms and blah blah), i'm still stunned that the biggest act in the world won nothing. shouldn't it be about the MUSIC, too, and not about who snubbed who when? then again, i guess not all voters will think that way.

Gwyneth...
he...meaning chris? :inquisitive: how so? i can't picture this . @tracie: looking forward to having you back! and that was HILARIOUS :D

Coldplay are now a pop band
i think i just have a skewed definition of what "pop" actually is in the common definition, or i'm just unclear on it. i can point to artists which i count as pop acts, but i can't really give a concrete definition for "pop" that most people would agree with. to me, pop means that the music is more manufactured than written (i.e., written or heavily, heavily sculpted by people that are not the performers themselves), and that the performers have another motive that is equally or more important than the music itself. i know coldplay dress up (i kinda wish they didn't), but it's not ABOUT the crazy jackets. beyonce, for example...it's less about the music and more about how she looks and how she dances. to me, that's pop (however, she does at least co-write a lot of her music, so perhaps she's not the best example). i just have a hard time pinning down what pop means...to me, i take it on a band-by-band basis. the term "pop" has a negative connotation in my mind, so i hesitate to put it on coldplay, even though i don't really care what they're labeled as. however, all the points you all have been making make sense to me, about coldplay's music being generally appealing to a wide demographic (not like radiohead, for example, who are a bit too "weird" for many mainstream tastes. they're popular, but they're not mainstream, in my opinion). i think coldplay are mainstream and very popular these days, but not necessarily POP, in my definition of it that i can't articulate :P. that's your OPINION, not a fact. pretty much everyone on this board would agree that coldplay aren't crap, but that doesn't mean it's a scientifically-proveable truth and that doesn't mean this thread is pointless. learn the difference between FACTS and OPINION.

Postcards from Far Away Project | FINAL UPDATE, go to COLDPLAY.COM!
@ alison: click the link at the top of the first post to download the video. in the first post of the thread it leads to, click to download the video in MP4 format and download it. once it downloads completely, go into itunes and go to file--> add file to library. find the file where you saved it, click it, and it should go directly into the "movies" section of your itunes. it'll go onto your ipod the next time you plug it in :D

Postcards from Far Away Project | FINAL UPDATE, go to COLDPLAY.COM!
part of me STILL doesn't really believe all this . i'm having such a hard time contemplating that something I and WE did actually reached them, that our action caused that reaction :P. i know i helped organized a project and i know i sent a postcard, and i know there's a video up there of the guys reading postcards, but i almost can't connect those two events together :laugh4: however, last night something did sort of click with me when there was that close up of guy reading iz's postcard (or will's reading ioshi's) and i focused on the logo and the template and all that :freak:

Postcards from Far Away Project | FINAL UPDATE, go to COLDPLAY.COM!
i think they'll probably just store the postcards away in a box or something for a while--i can't realistically imagine them making a big deal out of them in the future :P. but i hope they didn't just get chucked, and i hope they're filed away for some time, though maybe it's too much to think of them flicking through them on occasion :P

i've been wondering about where the cards are now, since this was a little under a month ago. i also wonder what will become of them, if anything. though i think debs is gone.

A Coldplaying Project For 2009?
for me, i know that i'm going to try to help organize the whole wembley tshirts thing in the spring if no one else has already claimed that. right now the whole process is making my head spin. as everyone else has said, i think inter-coldplaying projects are fine, but anything that's trying to reach the band shouldn't be done for a long, long time. it might make us seem annoying, and it would make postcards less special. i don't want to badger the guys, and i think another project where we send them things or try to directly contact them again would just be a bit annoying.
