:laugh3: Why do things always end up sliding off the deep end in this website? When you think about it, we use the phones all the time (more or less), since this whole damn thing - the internet - is run on phone lines! It's just a weird language though - sounds like some high-pitched tones only a dog could hear well these days. (streaming data).. What a concept when one thinks of it - from keystrokes to electronic pulses to computer bits to more electronic pulses to wires and then on to light, and back again. All so we can goof off!:P (sure beats some other uses for it though..)

Awww. That's a bummer! But you can always visit snow, and then leave & go back to a warmer place! (sounds nicer still!).

That's an interesting thought - that much of a shift in the types of & location of employment, or that much of a shortage of trained and qualified workers?? Seems like the majority of the problem still is with the predatory loans, the bearish response in the marketplace (both consumer markets and tradable assets), and the drying up of affordable credit. Property sales are very slow in the upper Midwest here, and manufacturing states have some of the highest unemployment rates. More stimulus in the sector for manufacturing wind turbines, solar cells and panels, etc. would boost things dramatically, & if there were more money available for consumers to use on these purchases.

I take a more nuanced approach to the matter. My opinion is that the government, any government for that matter, shouldn't be in the business of codifying or categorizing people in this manner. Taking the broader view, I like the idea of offering tax credits and recognition for anyone in a partnership, whether that partnership be two elderly people who's spouses have died, or a heterosexual couple, or a gay couple, etc. as it is beneficial to the society in which it occurs. Leave the term 'marriage' to someone's religious affiliation, and that would be more in keeping with the spirit of the enlightenment - that of keeping a separation of church and state to protect both from one-another.
