23-Jun-08: New York - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
I'm shooting for 7, but I still gotta hop in the shower & pick up my friend before heading into the city. Since someone up thread said the openers won't even start until 8, I figured I'd hang at Starbucks until right before that...

AHHHHHHHHHHH. the last pic just made me lose it!!! LOL I've been pretty (relatively) calm until now. After failing at trying to get a nap, I just put the Live CD on, and with these pics....OMG :D:dance: OK, so Starbucks...I'm coming in from NJ by PATH, so maybe Id go to the one on 31st&6th, might be good I think, if we try one of the ones RIGHT by/next to MSG it might be wayy to packed. Anyone???

23-Jun-08: New York - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
So, there is not one place where people are meeting up? I'm usually shy and just go straight to my seat, but having been on here so much lately makes me want to be more sociable and meet some faces behind the typed words LOL. :-) especially since I'm going tonight only thanks of a member of this board. My plan is to get there around 7, maybe hit up a Starbucks or something before (though I don't know if getting extra caffeine and sugar in my system is such a good idea tonight!) i'll probably check back here before I leave...so if anyone wants to meet up or has idea where, let me know...

I mean, this is supposed to be a free show for fans, not a place to "catch" the evil people LOL. Also, Coldplay is paying for this show for the fans, in the end it'd be a fan that gets screwed if they don't let someone in 'cause their ticket was bought instead of won, not the seller. And that defeats the whole purpose. I think it'll be fine, people. And this is coming from a big worry-wart goody-2-shoes.

What song initially turned you onto Coldplay?
wow this is making me think back...and it's made me realize i almost don't remember what it was like for me before Coldplay! how did i make it through life?!? I remember one Saturday morning in 2001 watching either MTV or VH1 while eating breakfast, and seeing the video for Yellow. Loving it immediately. So I downloaded all the songs (back in Napster days, sigh). I remember Trouble being my fave, and listening to it over&over. That album was like a security blanket/best friend through some tough months for me in 2002. By the time AROBTTH came out I definitely was a fan, I got all those songs right away (don't worry, I know OWN all the albums hehe). But I'm not sure which song, GPASUYF or The Scientist probably the whole album, made me LOOOOVE Coldplay and have them become MY band:D. And we live happily ever after ever since...

23-Jun-08: New York - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos
Such a perfect day... OMG a Coldplay/ing.com Miracle has occurred!!! I got tickets! FREE tickets...:D Thanks to a lovely fellow coldplaying member!!! ivette_e is my HERO. She saw my desperate posts on this thread and contacted me that she wasn't able to use the tix she had, so she passed them on to me...and all it took was the $2.25 Turnpike toll to get to her & pick them up!!! I can't believe it...nice people do exist, and they frequent this board lol. A HUUUUUGE Thank You to ivette_e (again). I'm still in shock, I think it'll really hit me when I hear the first few notes of LIT on Monday hehe. I wanted so badly to go, and now I am! It's like I willlled it to happen...Coldplay can work miracles, I'm telling you!!! Like Chris said..."There's a line on the record that says, Just because I'm losing/Doesn't mean I'm lost". That means that whatever slings and arrows come your way, you've gotta just keep going. That's my motto. It's quite a long motto and it's not in Latin, but it is quite a good motto". Chris Martin (i borrowed it from the_escapist's signature--¡Gracias! hehe) So though I kept trying every single contest I could enter to win, and didn't over&over, I still hoped and didn't give up that somehow I'd be at that show!!! And true to Chris's wise words...it happened! (I hope no one thinks I'm rubbing my good fortune in your face or showing off:embarassed:, I"m just so excited that I had to share it with people who understand how hard and how great it was to get to see this show.)

hey...advice needed. :-) I'm so crazy to go that I'mseriously considering just buying a ticket off someone. I found someone who says they got a ticket from "a friend who works for Coldplay" but they can't go themselves, that's why they're selling it. It does not come with a wristband, I guess since it's not from a contest. Should I go for it??? Do you think it's legit?? I'm so paranoid of buying a ticket from some random person without having won it myself, and getting problems at MSG. but I'm more afraid of passing an opportunity up for being chicken. hehe AHHH. I shouldn't be spending ANY money, but this show is something I can't pass up!

oh i don't know if reading about who DID win from PLJ is getting my hopes up or just making me more depressed I haven't won! :( LOL But thanks for the tip about Z100; I barely listen to radio so I didn't know they were also giving away tix. Though I've never had any luck with calling in, not even getting anything besides a busy signal! i'm so--i'll say it--desperate to get to see this show, i think i'd be willing (but not happy) to pay for them...I'm just afraid that since supposedly everyone there won the tickets, i'd get caught with my scalped tickets or not accepted or something.:wreck: I know, paranoid! hehe (ok, just checked on craigslist--is it always a dating service!?! i think i'd rather pay a little more and not have to have some pervy or geeky guy chatting me up during the show!)

Has anyone from here won tickets through PLJ??? I signed up through a few emails and texted a million times, and I'm praying every night :) that I get there!!! I don't want to give up hope until the last possible minute...which I think would be Friday the 20th when the winners are announced. I know it's stupid to even get excited, but I'm dyyying to go, and will be thoroughly depressed mondya if I'm sitting home instead of the concert!! sniff sniff

coldplay live on radio 2 this afternoon, Front Row R4 this evening
i don't think it was THAT bad, but i can see how someone could twist it to become a headline about Chris being a spoiled rock star who walks out of interviews. from the get-go you could tell he wasn't into it, and the interviewer being so dry and boring just didn't mesh well with chris. maybe the best thing wasn't to walk away from the interview, but it's not like he got up and said "FUCK THIS I'm outta here!" he kinda politely stepped away lol. it really was just a waste of time since the questions were boring and provided no new info, and on top of that only served to make Chris feel bad. 'Cause you know he feels terrible about it, especially his melons joke. I mean he spent half the interview with Jo Whiley apologizing for his crack joke, when that was obviously no big deal. but i totally love Will even more with each interview i hear!

3/5 reviews for VLV from both The Independent & The Guardian
I really don't care what "critics" say. And when I say critics, I not only mean proffesional reviews, but maybe from friends as well. What I seem to read over and over is Coldplay being criticized for the very things I LOVE about the band. The pretty,"simple" melodies, Chris's sometimes melancholy "self-pitying" lyrics sung with his earnest "wholehearted" vocals, their "sound." All those are the things that made me fall in love with Parachutes and AROBTTH and makes Coldplay my favorite FAVORITE band. I'm so glad they did sorta "upgrade" their sound, but even more glad that they didn't change it completely. Not 'cause I don't want them to go forward and improve or alter their style, but I don't ever want them to lose their typical sound (not that I think it's really possible for any band--like someone said, even the Beatles have a "sound"). If I want to listen to harder, darker, more experimental stuff, then I'll go and listen to other bands. I think the problem that Coldplay will always have with the critics, no matter how many records they put out or how they alter/change their style, is that they are a huuuge band, who probably even my grandmother has heard about( if only in name or maybe from the ipod commercial on her tv lol.) And that will always be held against them. To be honest, I think Coldplay wasn't meant to be a huge global act that plays stadiums. I think their sound/style is meant more for being played in a small theater, for example. Yes, they do have their singalong anthems, but the songs I love most sound the best when I'm sitting somehwere by myself listening on headphones and relaxing--in a good mood or crappy. And that's exactly what I love most--whenever I listen to Coldplay I feel that it's just these 4 geeky guys who play pretty, honest songs 'cause they feel like it, just for me and my friends, but millions of people just happen to know about them hehe. I forgot when/where Chris said something like with this new album he wanted to help out the Coldplay fan who felt like he gets beat up in the school yard for being a geek and liking an "uncool" band. Well, if like Coldplay makes me a geek, than I'm a proud geek! LOL Just my 2 cents (sorry so long!):)

Which color/flavor do you think tries to represent each Viva La Vida Song?
I haven't listen enough times (only like 10!) to declare a definite fave song, and I might never have just one, the same for the other albums...but Cemeteries of London, 42, Lost!, Yes are on the top. And they each, well maybe not Lost, have a creepy kinda vibe to them. hehe I said "on top" Ahh! must get off this board and do some real life things or my brain will go to mush LOL

Which color/flavor do you think tries to represent each Viva La Vida Song?
I KNOW! I listened to it on my ipod right before I went to sleep, my room pitch black. (great way to really enjoy each song btw) And I had put it on the pillow next to me. RIGHT in the middle of the song, i felt somethinG tap me lightly on my head--i almost jumped right outta bed:stunned:! Turns out the ipod just fell on me hehe. But for a second, there, I believed in ghosts LOL I KNOW!!!! but you know what...i love it all!!!! i think i really love that they're trying to creep us out a little bit...i'm totally coldplay's bitch in the sense that the music can always manage to evoke some kind of emotion from me. (even terror now LOL) .

This is such a pain! Now I have to pray I can manage to get off work that night, and it's not easy especially a Friday!! And also, now we have to wait an extra month to see them!!!! WTF. New York show winners are ....
I was there and yeah, it wasn't THE greatest, but it was still awesome for me--that's the smallest venue I'd ever, probably will ever see them at. And I was so excited to have actually WON the tickets, that that made up for the boring industry people and the cameras. Yesterday I was so so so sad about not getting tickets....but today I broke down and downloaded the leaked album, that the happiness of that has helped me. Now, come June 23rd I'm going to be so depressed again!

Do NOT lead into Temptation!
Ok, sorry to admit (but not too ;)sorry ) I broke down and found all the songs and am listening RIGHT NOW! And just an hour ago I said I'd wait 1 day LOL. I know I know...no will power. For all of those still holding out...I'm proud of you for sticking to your guns, hehe. I just couldn't do it, knowing it was out there, complete, just waiting for me!!!!

Anybody going to the Today show concert?
I'll be there...I work nights and get off at 5am. So I figured I'd head into the city right from there (it'd be half hour/45min if traffic). But I'm starting to think even that early won't be early enough!!! How early is everyone showing up???
-
Do NOT lead into Temptation!
OH God, I came on and first saw this thread, then looked a little down the page and saw the IT'S LEAKED thread...and went right to it! hehe But I haven't even touched one link. I don't know how long I'll hold out though... For me it's not so much a morality issue of "illegal downloading," (since I'll be buying the CD anyway) but more that I want to listen to the whole album beginning to end, like Coldplay intended it to be listened to. I've already heard a few songs about a billion times (Lost? VH, VLV) so I already kinda spoiled it for myself. But here in the US we're not getting the frickin' thing until the 17th!!! So I don'tk now if I can hold off that long...I might give myself a day and then see if the whole complete album is out, then be able to listen to songs in right order. Ahhhh! Until then though, it's killing me to be on this board, yet I can't tear myself away LOL :dizzy2:

New York show winners are ....
All these theories are making me crazy instead of making me feel better! Like: "must be that right now only NY people are getting emails, the rest of us will get it by the 5th," and "it might be going by zip code or something. "'Cause I live in NJ, like 20 minutes away from NYC, so if I follow these theories than I'm out of luck :(! And I know it's stupid, but I really really want to go!!! Knowing that I'll be so close and not there will kill me...

You can hear Lost! in this video...
omg Lost? is already my favorite song we've heard, and i think i'm already in love with Lost! from that little clip. ahhh!!! CAN. NOT. WAIT. for CD:happy:...only a month to go, sigh.

Violet Hill FULL VIDEO!
Totally agree! First watch I was like THIS is the video we've been anxiously waiting for?!? but then I watched again, and it seems to totally fit with their silly sense of humor. LOVE all the crazy headbanging :laugh3: and also Chris's magnified gapped teeth. I find it endearing to not care about your flaws...
