see in UK pants = underwear, Trousers = trousers lol so when someone says in US they werent wearing any pants, then we laugh, Roundabouts are cool, tho some can be the devil, especially if they are small, yet have lots of exits :/ It's weird driving on the left, then going to germany and encountering a roundabout, cos it goes the other way, and your brain just cant cope. I like american accents :) I speak to about 4 or 5 american friends on the phone regularly :) Frog cos they eat frogs legs :) Krauts, wartime name...i thought it meant cabbage but Jessy informed me it meant vegetables...a german dish that seems popular is sauerkraut, which is pickled cabbage (Jessy correct me here :)) and during the war we called the Germans that and it stuck, along with Jerrys... About the Limey, it was common when I was there, there was even a TV series called "the limey"...its do with the brits eating limes while sailing across the Atlantic in ye olden days, stopped them getting scurvy thanks to the vitamin C.

I'll say the US's complete disregard for the Tokyo Protocal thingy (the reduction of pollution and gas emissions from industry) was quite poor, did they ever change their mind over that or are they still ignoring it cos it will cost too much money to make US firms safe?

i dont rate yank as offensive, its a collective term in UK for americans, i know essentially it should only refer to americans from the north (cos of the civil war). We say Yanks for americans Frogs for french ppl Krauts for germans whereas US have limey for us Aussies call us whinging pommes :) French and Germans im not sure, but i remember the term little englander is used a lot...cos we seem quite insular to them and unwilling to adopt european culture...mainly cos we're an island nation i guess.

My arrogance clarification is earlier in this thread, and was backed up by a few americans posting their views and experiences. And yes others can be arrogant too, brits, french, germans, aussies etc.... I'm sorry you don't like it when americans are refered to as idiots, I think the problem there is, the US flooded the world with shows like Jerry Springer, Rikki Lake, Oprah, Jenny Jones, Montell, Geraldo...so we see a lot of americans doing stupid things...kinda influences how we percieve you guys...which is what this thread was about, american culture from outside the US....and unfortunately it's not all good right now, especially in a lot of europe due to Bush's war on terrorism :( personally im more willing to side with the US on issues like that than i am to side with europe...but thats not here nor there in this discussion. I didn't know redneck was demeaning, it's a term we hear used over here, like yank, hick, dude, and we just use it...*shrug*
