man, I finally get to a working computer. Exciting draw for SA, amazing shot too. I didn't know but they said the host nation has never lost an opening match. I didn't get a good look at the reversed mexico goal but the commentator was livid so I figured they were robbed at the time, but considered it fair when SA was denied a PK later on. The current match has been disappointing so far. Right off the back, players lack confidence in their abilities and start diving and embellishing all over the place. France is lackluster as ever while Uruguay's a bit desperate to get lucky with a longball. I definitely overanticipated the amount of goals to see. I heard France hasn't scored a goal in game 1 for the last several world cup's.

As bad as france has played lately, their roster is so stacked that as soon as they tape a couple loose parts together they could potentially dominate. Its pretty amazing that a team with those players can run off and do something like losing to china, but they've been so consistently poor that I don't have any faith in them against uruguay.

I'm too lazy to find that comment, but while you're absolutely right, they probably meant that its one of the most competitive groups, in that, the two advancing teams are anything but obvious. Because South Africa is in this group, there's no obvious frontrunner, and the mean of the other three teams is considerably higher than most groups where the teams are more widely spaced. I'm sure France much rather have the US's spot in group C, where England is a shoo-in, but the other teams aren't much of a threat. And vice-versa. You'd be more comfortable with one much better opponent than two equal opponents in a group.
