  1. wow, so they're playing Deep Blue too. Looks amazing.
  2. I idolize Eno (obviously), but I'm actually much more excited by Hopkins role in this thing. Vewwy intewesting.
  3. :awesome: I really hope they play this at the atlanta show.
  4. This probably isn't worth reading, I just wanted to type out my excited thoughts i.e. it's shamefully indulgent and, most likely, erroneous. My first full listen to the album. i.e. the always deceptive first impressions: Fucking wow, so brilliant. In every category it seems to blow past the flaws in previous albums (some of what were elucidated in the pitchfork review). Obviously it's a completely different animal with a distinctly different approach. The arrangement of the songs (and album as a whole) feels ultimately much richer than the transparent feel of much of Neon Bible (Intervention, black wave, ocean of noise etc.). Off the back they start from a much lower hill and build up, instead of bombarding the listener with BIG songs that become less satisfying with repetition. And instrumentally the songs are more cohesive, instead of the strange jerking around between extremely varietous sounds. This obviously runs the risk of being boring, and I feel like the accomplishment of this album is that how the exquisite string, guitar and chord arrangements prevent it from being so. The first 5 tracks is an unbelieveably orgasmic rendezvous. Can't emphasize that enough, it's just an incredible feat of music making. From there it settles down gradually. I love the halflight stretch, but the only time where I felt uncertain was from Suburban War to Deep Blue. I still haven't completely warmed up to Month of May, but even the less interesting songs on this album, IMO, are more satisfying than some of the lighter songs off of Funeral (Une Annee, Kettles, Crown of Love). The appeal of this album is in its consistency, there is really no 'No Cars Go' on this album, it's a much more intimate affair. Obviously its explosive at times as well, but when the intensity does come up, you feel included in the spirit of the song, while listeners had a much more distant, observer relation to almost all the song plotlines on Neon Bible. Lyrics and emotion are richer and more articulately expressed in this album, though becoming more complicated in the transition. Neon Bible feels more like a compilation of songs compared to the gradual holistic building of The Suburbs. To borrow a cliche it's too difficult to compare side by side. The singles from the Suburbs won't be nearly as successful as Keep the Car Running or Wake Up, but I think it's a much better album than Neon Bible, and at the moment, it's my unobjective fave of all three (but give me a break I'm still on my first full listen cloud [though I've listened to most of the album via you-tube in past weeks]).
  5. obviously not, your friend is an idiot.
  6. I used to write stories and poetry, but I never completed the former and the latter sucked. Recently my excuse has been that I lack inspiration.

    Birkenstocks ftw
  8. Well written indeed, subtle and simple to where it almost feels a bit incomplete, but I suspect that was the intent. Props, Sara.

  20. I think people are afraid to because its a big responsibility to do justice to the more popular albums.
  21. Yeah, but I'm mr. catalyst. Had I gotten here a few minutes earlier the cast would be jumping by nao...
  22. Sorry, didn't get home til just ten minutes ago.
  23. Considering the guy writes maybe 2 songs per album, there'd be extremely little to talk about.
