  3. Coldplay, Weezer, M.I.A. Sell LPs in New Media Format The world's four biggest music corporations-- Universal, Warner, EMI, and Sony BMG (soon to be Sony Music Entertainment Inc.)-- have teamed with MP3 player and memory card manufacturer SanDisk to create a new music media format called slotMusic. Here's how slotMusic works: These memory cards-- which come pre-loaded with albums in DRM-free MP3 format along with liner notes, album art, videos, and other content-- plug right into phones, portable media devices, computers, and even a few car stereos (with aims at more). Each card sells for about the price of a CD and also comes with a USB adapter to ensure the easy transfer of content from the card to a computer or portable MP3 player. The initial run of slotMusic cards is now shipping and includes entries from Coldplay, Weezer, M.I.A., Young Jeezy, Usher, Rihanna, Ne-Yo, Katy Perry, ABBA, Jimi Hendrix, Elvis Presley, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Keane, among others. But here's the rub: Other than the fact that they're playable on cell phones, these cards don't seem all that different from CDs. They're smaller, but they still come with one album per physical artifact, implying you'd need some sort of carrying case if you wanted to switch between Kala, Skynyrd's Greatest Hits, and One of the Boys (just me?) on the train ride to work. A smaller physical format with limited capacity is still a physical format with limited capacity! Not to mention the fact that plenty of cell phones already come with the capabilities to download music. Maybe the glaring holes in this plan to revolutionize the way people consume music are why the slotMusic press release ends with a blatant admission that it "contains certain forward-looking statements" that "involve numerous risks and uncertainties." Risks and uncertainties such as this one: "Market demand for our products may grow more slowly than our expectations, or there may be a slower adoption rate for these products in new markets that we are targeting." slotMusic: This is gonna change everything. Or nothing. 4. yesss i am excited for this. i love the debates. i won't be able to talk about it here though because i am watching it at a friends house!
  5. chris.... he's my mancrush :P
  6. ooo im excited! i was really interested to see what painting they would use... buttt when it comes down to it I JUST WANT TO HEAR THE MUSIC!
  7. yea i'm so excited for this song. remember when chris talked about it in that Q Radio interview? i just re-listened to it and first he says "it's really good." and then he plays the beginning of it and the lyrics are "there's a wild wind blowing down the corner of my street every night there the headlights are glowin'"? something like that.... anyway i can't wait to hear the rest.
  8. hahaha agreed!!! its only 2 weeks from wednesday! i think about it soooo much everyday. i've decided that im not gunna look at the setlists or read R#42 blogs about the few US shows before our show because if they change up the setlist i actually want it to be a surprise. i didnt like how last concert i went to i basically always knew what they were gunna play next. regardless i'm SOOO excited for this and it can't come quick enough!
  9. i wasnt saying they should use it as an opener again... all i was saying is that out of all the opening combinations of the first 2 songs theyve used so far that was my favorite. it would be stupid if they opened with a song not on viva la vida because this is the viva la vida tour. but IMO there are really no other good songs to open a concert on viva la vida other than LiT and VH. however i think politik is the best single opening song. put i prefer the COMBO of square one/politik over politik/gpasuyf. but really idk any song by any band that could open a concert than politik. just my opinion.
  10. when do we find out who won? i mean for the original one where you had to send the email with your name/adress...
  11. ok house of cards is the ONE song on in rainbows that i haven't been able to get into. i don't know what it is. i don't really hate it but i guess it just doesnt do much for me. i WANT to like it i just havent had that breakthrough with it that i've had with all the other IR songs... i'm still waiting though...
  12. i think the snow patrol website is down... it's definately not working for me.
  13. easily a rush of blood. no album can beat the trio of politik, warning sign, and amsterdam. i love them all though... each one is good for different times.
  14. ugh i'm so upset that i wasn't a REAL radiohead fan yet when this was originally released. i'm so jealous of all your stories of waking up at odd hours to first listen. i wouldve LOVED doing that. i really hope they release their next album in the same way so i can do that. you just never actually get to do that with albums anymore. they always leak at some random time and idk... i just wish i couldve had that same experience with in rainbows. but still... i have to give in rainbows all the credit for my now obsession with radiohead. i only had a few songs up until it came out and after reading all the buzz about how they released it with the pay what you want i thought i'd give it a try (i payed NOTHING :-O... but i ended up buying the physical version). and to be honest the first time i listened i didn't even like it. because at that point i didnt GET radiohead if you know what i mean. and after awhile i found myself wanting to listen to it more and more and i didnt get why. and the first song to really breakthrough was jigsaw. idk what it was but slowly but surely i started to like everysong and eventually i downloaded more and more radiohead and finally i really understood them. so now that i got all of that out.... thank you in rainbows for making me realize what an insanely amazing band radiohead is.
  15. i've seen them twice so far this tour (hartford+boston) and i'm looking forward to #3 in boston! my best memories are sitting 2 rows in front of gwyneth, getting square one and the hardest part at hartford and having the butterflies come down when i was on the floor. my favorite youtube video from the tour is this one from paris: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fF4Otx6KheE]YouTube - Coldplay Bercy 09-09-2008 "Viva la Vida"[/ame] and it was really exciting when they played hunting high and low, glass of water, and the snippets of amsterdam! can't wait to see what they pull out for the third leg...
  16. today i laid in my bed and listened through the whole album. i've listened to it a ton of times but today was especially good. i love this album so much. 1. the first time i heard it my favorite was DEFINATELY jigsaw with videotape pretty close behind. since then i've switched off... 15 step was #1 for awhile but now it's definately reckoner. i had like an epiphany with that song. 2. my #1 IR song on last.fm is 15 step with 105 plays. i cant scrobble my ipod so that is low. overall in rainbows has 559 plays on my last.fm... still doesnt add in my ipod plays though. 3. i don't even know. it's always in the CD player next to my bed or in my car and so many other places so there are countless times where i've put it on when ive just wanted to listen to SOMETHING. 4. probably 2. Kid A is undoubetdly #1 for me.
  17. i think its good where it is. the first time i heard the song back in april i remember thinking that it would be a great song to open up a set. i understand why they open with LiT but i definately think violet hill is a great follow up. however nothing can beat the opening combo of square one and politik... NOTHING.
  18. im sooooooo excited... especially after hearing glass of water. i want them to play it at our concert but not if its gunna replace politik. i feel like a coldplay concert isn't complete without politik. im also still praying everyday for amsterdam..... i can dream right?
  19. don't know if anyone has seen this.... http://yahoo.promo.eprize.com/nissanlivesets/?affiliate_id=1j
  20. ONNNNN TO THE ALCS!!!!! the red sox OWN the angels in the playoffs. i reeeeaallyyy like their chances now. they have a better rotation than tampa and MUCH more playoff experience AND a much better homefield advantage. and then if they get by them they just have to deal with some NL team that wouldn't even be in the playoffs if they had to play in the AL. ahhhh i'm just so happy they got by the angels (who DID have the best record in baseball.)
  21. the only album i have yet to fall in love with is Pablo Honey. idk it might just be because when i listen to it i know that they have other albums that are a lot better...
