update on the band. the second album has been complete for quite a while now but the band has decided not to release it late september as was initially planning. the new release date is January 10 2010. the title of the album is Contra. here is the tracklisting 'Horchata' 'White Sky' 'Holiday' 'California English' 'Taxi Cab' 'Run' 'Cousins' 'Giving Up The Gun' 'Diplomat’s Son' 'I Think Ur A Contra' will be interesting. the expectations are very high.

i was listening to Amnesiac a couple of nights and realised for the first time just how much i enjoy Knives Out, one of their best tracks imo.

these guys have been getting massive airplay on radio down here. i need to listen to them a few more times but they seem pretty cool!

i think this is a very important point. U2 could still sell just as many tickets without using such an extravagant set. unless they feel that their music by itself cant bring the audiences.

just getting back to topic. i think all this charity talk to justify the carbon footprint of the tour is irrelevant. we all know that U2 does more than anyone else for charity but in reality it has little to do with the environmental impact of this tour. i think that U2 has gone a little overboard with this tour and could do more for the environment at least in supporting raising awareness of the issue. nonetheless you look at the money the tour is pumping into economy and compare it to other companies who are putting in just as much, i think we can safely say that U2's carbon footprint would be much smaller than theres. but i guess i dont really have the evidence to back this.

2 year gap would also mean shorter tours which means one visit to aus instead of the two they've paid us on their previous couple of tours. (jan and sept 2004 and jan and nov 2007)

well so far its been 1999-showbiz 2001- origin of symmetry 2003 - absolution 2006- black holes &revelations 2009- the resistance i think they are starting to stick to the 3year gaps between albums and considering how long their tours run for thats not too bad. but i think after no.6 they will do the mandatory-stadium-rockers-u2-esque 4 year gap between albums.

^^ im assuming you go to the auckland leg of the festival which is famous for not having a barricaded D section. do you prefer itl ike that? or would you like it better if there was a fenced off section at the front.

this means australian tour potentially around late october early november! followed by maybe a south american tour. im guessing they will do another run of american dates in the first half of the year.

i posted the setlist on the previous page. im very glad you enjoyed their performance but not at all surprised.

one of the most eagerly anticipated BDO's in a long time! muse seem to be a shoe in to headline the festival but its a massive mystery as to who will be in support. line up will be announced on Tuesday 29th September on triple j breakfast show. the line up might be announced on the official website before that. http://www.bigdayout.com CANT WAIT

just on the muse website at the moment. out of the 30 or so shows they are doing in a next few months, only 6 or 7 are sold out! whats going on?

is anyone going to see U2 at the new Cowboys Stadium? that would be insane i heard that it has a capacity of 110 000 people including standing area! have they sold any standing tickets for the u2 show? will they close the roof for the show? would this be the first indoor show U2 have done on this tour? sorry for all the questions but the prospect of U2 playing this venue is exciting even though im on the other side of the world! and muse is in support!

i would of given it a D- at best. muse played real music at the VMA's. thats an absolute disgrace! im surprised MTV didnt cut to an ad break half way through the first chorus. or they should've gotten kanye to jump in halfway and scream "U2 released the best stadium rock album OF ALL TIME MAN! OF ALL TIME!" now that would of gotten them an A++ in my books.

dont want to turn this into a U2 thread. but im not at all surprised that people dont know much about U2. im assuming that violetsparks is around 20-ish yrs old so her generation would be 2002 to about now, a period in which U2 has produced music that hasnt had much of an impact at all on the music scene bar maybe Vertigo. i know they are doing massive stadium tours but those stadiums are filled with people much older than us.

everytime i go to my record store i pick up that package stare at it for a few moments then put it down take a deep breath and walk away. one day soon i know i will buy it.
