hey cmon we've agreed to disagree. lets move on. i dont want this to turn into another radiohead-versus-the-world-type debate where we all hate each other cos we have different tastes and views in music. The Dead Weather rocked Glastonbury last night. this was Jack's 4th appearance at the festival this decade. twice with the white stripes, once with the raconteurs and now with this new band. yeh before it was only Blue Ridge Mountain. funnily enough thats the only one missing. im very impressed at the quality of the videos.

well i've already mentioned The Recordings of the Middle East by The Middle East. they're a folk -ish alt rock band out of townsville on the far north coast of australia. at this point i think this EP is much better than Fleet Foxes' Sun Giant EP. other faves Interpol EP - only 3 tracks but 16mins of pure post punk bliss Sun Giant - Fleet Foxes - Mykanos is brilliant Chocolates and Cigarettes - Angus and Julia Stone - makes for very easy listening Who The Fuck Are The Arctic Monkeys - bizarre how this came out AFTER their debut album. Blood Bank - Bon Iver - no quite a favourite but enjoyable listening nonetheless Dead Letter Circus EP - awesome hardcore pop punk band out of brisbane. well worth a listen My Manic and I - Laura Marling - i think this came out when she was hardly 17, an incredible talent Modern Age - The Strokes - similar situation to Interpol Opiate - Tool - some of the only official professionally recorded live Tool you will ever hear and it is brilliant Still out of all of those The Middle East come out on top.

i cant ever remember a time when i didnt recognise songs like Beat It, Billie It and Thriller or even Smooth Criminal. my earlliest music memories are all of michael jackson songs and the hysteria that surrounded them. A TRUE LEGEND

its amazing how so very few us are genuine fans yet we can all roll off 5 or 6 if not many more songs on the spot. i cant think of many other artists in history who achieved that level of success and popularity. Beat It is my favourite. a true rock classic by a pop star.

if i had tickets i would hold on to them. they are priceless now. not to demean this tragedy.

sorry double post i'll just add that Definitely Maybe is a brilliant record. dont quite understand the hate on it.

Invalid forum because howyousawtheworld is on it. going back to the bass and guitar work. you put it up against the great rock records like led zeppelin IV or The Wall, i'm not that impressed at the musicianship. yes there are moments of shear brilliance but jonny will never be put up there with the Page's and Claptons.

there's so much i want to say right now but i think i'll just keep at this.......he was and will always remain the greatest entertainer of all time. i'm really happy at the response this has received. people should remember for the great things he did. everyone makes mistakes and does bad things, he was only human. his death is a terrible reminder of that fact.

"album of the week" "album of the year already??!?" soo much cooler before everyone started loving it. saw transformers today so i might listen to alot of Linkin Park tomorrow. they were my fave band for about 7yrs before i got over them.

Zero by YYYs beats it by a tiny bit in my opinion and Southern Point by Grizzly Bear isnt far behind.

^^ is it still getting airplay.? the J's played it loads over the summer then stopped around March/April. then Joyride got a bit for a week or so.

i've never had the pleasure of seeing the monkeys live. but those who have. Do you rate them highly as a live act? on camera they dont come across as being anything special.

i really fail to see OKC as a great "rock" album. i usually judge rock albums by the guitar and bass work. the quality of the drumming and how "rock n roll" the vocals are. on simply those terms OKC would hardly get a 9/10 ( as opposed to the 154874 out of 10 it would get judged on its own terms). in my humble opinion radiohead are not a great "rock" band. and from listening to what Thom has said over the years THEY DONT WANT TO BE!

i'm not sure if its fair to place them soo highly (or lowly) after just one album. maybe after their 2nd or 3rd we can start properly and fairly judging them.

not sure about everyone else. but to me Fantasies has this real debut album feel to it. just the way it flows and how every tracks has this brilliant hook to it.

hehe hate to beat my own drum but that was my recording of Crying Lightning from the big day out broadcast. at the time i had no idea the impact it would have. it was front page of NME.com for a couple of days. sadly it turned out in mono only, some tech savvy fans fixed that up later. i've still got parts of that concert hidden away somewhere in my hard drive, just too lazy to get up on the net.

i've heard every album by both bands. KoL havent evolved their sound in any way, they've simply started sounding like every other arena rock wannabe band out there, over produced, drowning in studio gimmicks and kurt-cobain-esque vocals. thats why people are disliking them. popularity has nothing to do with it, they headlined glastonbury BEFORE only by the night came out. just like every guitarist going around now models themselves on jimmy page, eric clapton, pete townsend and hendrix. guitarist in 30years time will be looking up to jack white. i'm not saying he is better than them but im willing to take the punt that he is the artist of this generation. he may be the joke of the industry in a few decades time but im confident he wont be.
