  1. the reason why kashmir is below those songs is because led zep have loads and loads of big songs. so the votes were spread over all those songs. most people didnt want to vote for one band more than once. you'll find that alot of really hate led zeppelin especially those you loved that punk era that came just after led zeppelin broke through. songs 60 to 51 were awesome for the most part. Tool's 46&2 and Comfortably Numb are my two favourites so far. they also played half of a rick astley song at number 53 which almost gave me a heart attack but they stopped it halfway and said the actual 53 was Like A Rolling Stone by the legendary Bob Dylan.
  2. a significant proportion of the votes come from outside of australia as the poll is open to the whole world. looking at the entries so far it's hard to tell its an aussie poll, hardly any of the songs are home-grown.
  3. 70 to 61 is pretty solid. i liked all the songs
  4. has anyone seen or heard any early reviews of the album? assuming that the final product is done. personally i dont always trust these reports simply because the journos only get to listen to the album once or twice, if they are lucky they get to keep it for a day or something so they dont quite get to listen to it properly. but nonetheless i usually cant help myself and read them anyways.
  5. thats quite a good selection for the top 10. i will be very surprised if Queen make it that high simply because the audience doesnt match the band. @ricardo jump onto the stations website and take a look at the response to sex on fire making it. almost went into meltdown when that was announced. it was the biggest song in australia last year (and im sure it was up there in the UK and around europe) so its only natural for it to feature in a countdown of this nature. my theory is that people who dont really listen to alternative music but wanted to vote thought to themselves, hey whats an "alternative" band i know...KoL, whats the only song i know by them....sex on fire. put the two together and you have a song in the hottest 100. sad but true next lot of songs starts in 5 mins for anyone interested.
  6. Cash in anyone ;) just kidding haha
  7. the end of year hottest 100 is the biggest annual poll in the world. in case non-aussies are wondering what the hell triple j is, its basically the australian equivalent of BBC's Radio 1 (well so they say at least, looking at the stuff Radio 1 plays nowadays i would like to think not). like i said before most of the triple j's audience are the type who flick between the commercial stations like nova, triple m and austereo network and triple j, which from what i hear wasnt the case so much 10 years when the poll last took place. what makes it into the poll now is quite trivial. its the top 20 thats really going to get people talking. personally i think that positions 80 to 71 is a massive improvement and i'm really impressed with the amount of songs pre-1991 considering that 85% of the station's audience is between 18 and 25.
  8. the countdown has taken a turn for the worse this afternoon with 90 to 81 being revealed. as much as i love placebo i dont think they are a hottest 100 quality band especially not every you every me. i was scared sex on fire might get top 20 and was praying it wouldnt get in at all. so 90 isnt too bad. yellow deserves to be much higher but i guess i am biased.
  9. i'm saying that the album doesnt give much aside from Sweet Disposition. one song can only take you so far.
  10. i'm expecting Radiohead and Muse to dominate both should have at least 3 entries. ac/dc's return will mean that they will be the best represented aussie band while michael jackson's recent death will most probably result in a couple of entries for him.
  11. Wolf Like Me is an awesome song but yeh i agree with you in saying that Take Me Out should of been higher. this will be a very interesting countdown. the demographic of the radio station has changed dramatically. nowadays you have alot of people surfing between triple j and NOVA. nonetheless the result of this poll will have little or no impact on the music played on the station.

  13. yeah i can relate to that. placebo's music is a world away from coldplay but that doesnt mean its not freken awesome. i cant wait until placebo tour down here they are an amazing band.
  14. i guess the one advantage of being well up in the stands is that you can appreciate the full stage show properly. if you;re in that circle you wont see more than half of it. see it this way back seats at wembley = birds eye view
  15. but at the end of the day it is inevitable that 21st century bands will earn a large majority of their money from touring instead of cd sales and radio airplay. thats just the reality for bands nowadays no matter what type of contract they sign.
  16. unfortunately it seems to be the consensus that Sweet Disposition is the best track on the album by a long way. so once people realise that, it will turn them off the album and that will hurt sales and radio airplay. Fader is a decent song also.
  17. interesting choice for first single. it took me a while to get into the when i first heard it back in january but i love it now. the musicianship is awesome.
  18. have the band done much in england? their glasto performance received rave reviews.
  19. haha i've been listening to loads of Beatles this week also. Listened to Revolver last night which is my fave album from them. might give Abbey Road a spin tonight. my goal for this winter uni break is to properly listen to all their albums and all of led zep's albums also.
  20. yeah i was pretty surprised at the 15 jacket too. federer constantly goes on about how records arent everything to him and then he dons a jacket with the number 15 embroidered on it. i really hope it was Nike thing and Roger had no say in it. i understand andy's frustration but in that last set roger never looked like he was going to lose the match, i've seen alot of his matches where you look at the final scorecard and it looks like a really tight match but you actually watch it and you'll see that he maintains control over the match the entire time. i feel sorry for andy too, this is the best tennis he has ever played, lets hope he continues to play like this for a couple more years so he can win his second grand slam and get the recognition he deserves. i know the final set was 16-14 but i still think the nadal federer final was superior. hard to explain why.
  21. top album to kick things off im not 100% sure about this but i think it will most probably be Fever To Tell by YYYs. i loved their 2nd and 3rd albums. they're arent too many bands out there who have made 3 albums i have absolutely loved but if the critical acclaim is anything to go by then i think YYYs will surely join that small group of bands.
  22. Jack White is my favourite artist of the last decade and im really struggling to get into them. still no leak of the album.
  23. dont forget to tell us how it goes. im paying $135 to see them
  24. what an unbelieveble shot of the stage!! its massive
  25. IMO Radiohead have made 4 albums (The Bends, OKC, Kid A, In Rainbows) that are just as good as Veckatimest. They have a long way to go.
