The Champion's League & "Uefa Cup" Thread

Wolfmother
18 songs by a band like wolfmother would mean a double album and i highly doubt that is their intention otherwise he would of said that by now. but then again anything is possible but right now i'm taking andrews word over wikipedia. http://www.rollingstone.com/rockdaily/index.php/2009/05/04/wolfmother-introduce-us-to-new-songs-lineup-at-la-museum/ a review of a show the band did last night.

Lily Allen
^^ how about nobody cares!! if anyone is interested triple j have put up 2 songs from the concert she did in their sydney studios are couple of months ago. the entire performance was acoustic and personally i thought she was wonderful. she doesnt have the most brilliant voice (and she admits it) so it was brave of her to do an acoustic performance in front of 50 people and broadcast live on radio.

The Champion's League & "Uefa Cup" Thread
i'm very grateful that man utd got those 2 early goals which allowed me to go back to bed and get a couple more hours of sleep. but lets hope tomorrow morning is much closer. if its a man utd v barca final then we're guaranteed an epic game. i don't think we can expect the same if it ends up being against chelsea (that fa cup final is still on my mind, 90mins of my life i will never get back) but first barca have to get past chelsea at stamford bridge and we all know of chelsea's record at home.

Beatles or the Rolling Stones?
i hope you are all picking the band you would rather be a member of not the band you prefer listening to. i'm very much torn between the two. both bands have had a massive impact on music and have been very very successful. so it really goes down to which band would of been cooler to be around. the stones are one of the best live acts ever and have been so consistently for over 40years whereas the beatles hardly spent 5years on the road before they locked themselves into Abbey Road. but at the same time it would of been amazing to have been in the studios when the Beatles were making those classic albums.

Wolfmother
well not all 17 will make their way onto the album. they will most probably have 12 on the album and the remainder as B-sides

Beatles or the Rolling Stones?
On their latest album Metric's lead singer Emily Haine asks us the question "Who Would You Rather Be, The Beatles or the Rolling Stones??". now in the context of the song its not asking which band do u prefer listening to, rather which band would u like to have been a part of. actually she's not asking either question but for the sake of this thread lets assume she is. i can't decide which i would prefer. its pretty much the most influential band of all time vs the biggest band of all time.

The White Stripes

Wolfmother
that interview with stockdale was sooo random. triple j just decided to call up the studios where wolfmother were recording and asked if they could speak to stockdale. and since triple j played a massive part in making the band so incredibly successful he happily obliged. i expected a very safe diplomatic interview from him but instead he blurted out all these things about the new album. he also spoke about the recording process. they have completed 5 songs (at the time of the interview) and plan to record 17 in total which should be done by june. they will then go to the london studios of their producer to finish mixing the record. VERY EXCITING!!

The battle of your favourite albums of all time - Quarter Finals!
fleet foxes v sgt peppers an album that was and still is basically unknown to most people against the album that many argue is the greatest of all time and has gone 11x platinum. a little bit unfair but good on Fleet Foxes. briggins our plan is working!!! mwwwuhahhahahaha

Placebo
BRAIN MOLKO GREW HIS HAIR!! LONG!! REALLY LONG!!! i love the song and annoyed at the negative reaction to it. its a much more mature sounding placebo and i'm really looking forward to this upcoming record. but the little mario kart bit is an epic fail.

Do you often find yourself defending 21st century music?
now the other reason i had for why theres sooo much negativity towards this era of music was the dominance of alternative bands. the best 'rock' bands seem to mix their sound in with another genres. you look back at the 60s and 70s and rock bands were well...........rock bands. guitar vocals bass and drums and maybe keys making regular straight out rock n roll. 21st century bands tend to more often than not combine their rock sound with electronics or heavy strings or maybe some rapping or wild screaming. alot of people fall in love with a band because they have such a great rock sound then when they go deeper into their catalogue they discover that they have a range of other sounds that they dont quite like. take muse for example, great band great musicians but they have this whole space rock thing going with heavy effects and synthesisers which im sure turns alot of pure rock fans away. bloc party are very similar in that sense. arctic monkeys have a great rock n roll sound but their almost spoken lyrics i'm sure has turned off alot of people. like i said before music is just as good now as it was 30-40yrs ago. its the 21st century music fan thats has changed. meaningless disposable tunes are the order of the day and will remain that way for a very long time. the attitudes of alot of music fans are quite irritating and that possibly is turning people away also.
