  1. Emiliana Torrini Laura Marling PJ Harvey Karen from the Knife Stevie Nicks Sarah Blasko Holly Throsby Alicia Keys and Beyonce (yes they are both very mainstream but there is little denying their vocal abilities) and if Thom ever has a daughter her cries as a baby will most probably sound better than most professional singers
  2. ^^ I love Turn on.....but i have a thing for Antics. i think it had more of a straight forward post punk sound to it and thats more my thing.
  3. few more reasons why they should tour aus - only 10 shows in aus in their history over 2 tours (1998 and 2004) - In Rainbows debuted here at number 1 - we're one of the few countries where they are played on radio on a regular basis (not just Creep) - WE LOVE THEM
  4. ^^ especially down here in aus where they havent toured for 5yrs now!! i think they've done 3 or 4 american tours in that time.
  5. the main reason i loved the white stripes and raconteurs is because they brought back that classic rock sound of the 70s and mixed it with a great garage rock style. being a fan of both those genre's i couldn't help but love both of those bands. I'm still trying to put my finger on exactly what jack is going for with this project. maybe after the full album comes out we'll get a better idea
  6. the vocals on the song are amazing, true Molko style. but i found the guitar work to be a little tired sounding. nonetheless cant wait to go see them on this tour
  7. OMG ANOTHER RADIOHEAD V MUSE BATTLE WOOHOOOOOO AWESOME MADDDDD...............*snore*
  8. i can't wait to hear the album in full. i think jack's left this gap between now and releasing the album to work on the new white stripes album. the Dead Weather will only tour around the US in june with an unlikely tour of the UK and europe. i can't believe Rolling Stone magazine described this band as "the stripped down white stripes". how can you get any more stripped down than the white stripes. No instruments at all?
  9. 360.u2.com i'm sure all of you have already seen this and talked about it. i've been hearing stories about it for the last week or so but it was sooo far beyond anything i expected. going to see U2 this time around will be a mind blowing experience. not only is it the stage but the shear size of the tour that has been announced so far. i think the smallest venue holds 50 000!!
  10. ^^ YAY someone cares. and yes you are right LJ does a great job with jack white. in order to work with jack white you need to be supremely talented and LJ is just that. lets not forget Dave Grohl has also been a part of 3 very very successful bands. Foo Fighters,Queens of the Stone Age and that band from Seattle. i think they were called Nirvana or something.
  11. not a single person gives a shit about jack white's new band? this is the era-defining artist of our generation. this is the man we'll be telling our grandkids about. radiohead and muse have done shit all in the last 6 months yet their threads are constantly being posted on. i love both of those bands but i fail to see how any real fan of alternative music can ignore the genius that is Jack White.
  12. The Beatles basically summed up the 60s ie. they were the era-defining act. on the other hand i really dont think that the 90s and 00s will be remembered through radiohead's music. the beatles were very much a mainstream chart topping pop rock band on the other hand Radiohead are alternative in every way. the two bands have had very very different impact on music.
  13. is the first Mexico show tonight?
  14. just wondering. does everyone know that this concert will be released on dvd in a few months time??!??!
  15. triple j's music director Richard Kingsmill just gave coldplay a massive talking up. this is a guy who was a big fan for the first 2 albums then turned against them totally after X&Y and i never thought i would hear him say another good word about them. but after watching them he like me has completely changed his mind about them as live performers. i think this week in sydney will forever be known as Coldplay Week!!
  16. jack white has formed yet another band!!! on top of the very successful White Stripes and the brilliant Raconteurs/Sabotuers jack has put together a 3rd act named The Dead Weather. here is the article in relation to it off Billboard. Jack White has formed a new group called The Dead Weather with The Kills frontwoman Alison Mosshart. White takes drum and vocal duties, while The Raconteurs bassist Jack Lawrence and Queens of the Stoneage guitarist Dean Fertita round the four piece out. The group debuted a handful of new tracks last night (March 11) in Nasvhille from their forthcoming album "Horehound," due June 9 on White's Third Man Records imprint. Two of the songs are available now on iTunes: "Hang You From The Heavens" and a cover of Gary Numan's "Are Friends Electric?" The group performed for an intimate crowd of 150 at the opening of White’s new headquarters. The office includes not only the label office, but also a vinyl shop, photography studio and performance stage. The Dead Weather is planning to support “Horehound” with a tour this June [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=scJ8ITsZsl4]YouTube - The Dead Weather (Jack White) - Hang You From the Heavens[/ame] [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KEvTfIyOLEk]YouTube - The Dead Weather (Jack White) - Are Friends Electric?[/ame] this means even longer delays on a new white stripes record. but its still new music from jack white so most of us are very happy. if jack does go on to release a white stripes record some time this year, he will make it 11 records in 11 years.
  17. how awesome is the new Peter Bjorn and John song!!!! so far chorus of the year
  18. Placebo recorded the as yet untitled album with producer David Bottrill (Muse, Tool and Silverchair) and are promising the newmaterial has an "epic sound". We can expect a new album from Placebo around the middle of this year. Source :Triple J
  19. i dont really post in this part of the forum that much. over the last couple of years my passion for coldplay has died down a little bit but having been a fan for sooo long i really wanted to see them live at least once, and see what its like. having looked at the setlists for the tour i was dissapointed that they were soo one dimensional almost identical every night. but wow last night was one hell of an experience. one i will never forget. i've been to my fair share of big concerts but this was different to all of them. it felt like much more of a "show" rather that your regular concert. rather than just hearing 20-odd songs being played it was light show, stage spectacular and a hint of comedy from chris. despite experiencing countless technical difficulties through the night they sounded amazing. but the one thing i will remember from the show is how it felt like the band were performing for each and everyone of us individually at no point did it feel like they were simply going through the motions. leading up to the show i was thinking this will the first and last time i see the boys live. but after last night my mind has been changed. i really hope they come back soon. i could continue writing about last night forever but i'll stop here. but highlight of the night for me was when the crowd sang the harmonies to viva la vida, a song i dont like that much but when its being sung by 20 000 sydneysiders its the best song in the world!!
  20. nothing but a quadruple post does justice to this legendary band. I've only heard the albums post-Meddle. and every single one of the them is incredible. nothing beats a good 24min track like Echoes haha.
  21. i still find it hard to believe that record companies continue to ignore the power of youtube. i think radioheads video for House of Cards has notched up over 5 million views in the last 6 months. just imagine how many people were exposed to their music for the first time through that video. record labels and the like should compare the money they make from keeping videos off youtube to the value of it being available to over 5 million potential fans. i give the "record label" another 5 years maximum before they all dissapear. they've had close to a decade to embrace technology and the internet and by the sounds of it most of them still see it as their enemy. who cares if youtube and myspace make shitloads of money out of advertising. look at the exposure they are giving these artists for free. i'm waiting for the day that artists and their labels admit that they aren't going to make money from albums, singles and radio airplay they need to get off their butts and start touring cos thats where the money is.
  22. ^^ Grizzly Bear just finished a string of sold out shows in new york only two weeks ago. the reason i said a show in the past month or the coming month is because no "active" band would go a whole 2 months without doing a single concert or releasing something.
  23. wow where did this come from??!??! are we bringing it back to life?
  24. they are doing massive things down in australia, well at least on the alternative scene. so far its really only been the one song Help I'm Alive which is an amazing song!! they recently recorded an acoustic version of the song for Triple J radio http://mpegmedia.abc.net.au/triplej/newmusic/metric/helpi'malive.mp3 for those of you who have never had the pleasure of listening to this amazing band. here is the album version of Help Im Alive [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KtA7YIFapnY]YouTube - Help I'm Alive by Metric[/ame]
  25. why omit oasis. they brought out an album last year and are on tour for it arent they?
