sorry i should of been clear about one thing. it was meant to have said released an album in the past 6 months OR have a show in the next month. not both. the reason i had soo many rules is because the idea of an active band can mean different things to different people. i really dont think its that hard to pick out a band that is on tour at the moment or just released an album lately and is being played on the radio currently. everybodystilllovesandrew was able to make quite a list. of course i dont expect radiohead fans to contribute all that much. this is directed at people who pay attention to all good music going around at the moment.

i'll record the coldplay performance as i have foxtel and a dvd recorder. but thats going to be the only part of the concert i record and upload onto youtube and megaupload. just takes too much time and effort with the technology i have. still no announcement on the timings of the performances. and tomorow we will find out who is the big addition to the sydney show. right now i'm pretty certain its the guy from the Bee Gees. with all due respect i'm very dissapointed.

here is an idea i've seen on a few other music forums. it asks for your favourite artist or band currently active. most of them dont have a specific criteria so i will make my own. CRITERIA Must have released a full length album under the bands name in the last 6 months or are set to release an album in the next month. Soundtracks, compilations or b-sides and rarities do not count. Nor do DVDs Must have performed a full concert in the last month or are scheduled to perform a full concert in the next month. TV Appearances, Charity concerts and other small performances do not count Must still be together. So if they have disbanded recently they do not count. NO COLDPLAY Put as many or as few as you like in your list Popular bands on Coldplaying that are ineligible - Muse - Arctic Monkeys - Foo Fighters - Green Day - Red Hot Chili Peppers - Arcade Fire - White Stripes - Chemical Brothers - Interpol - Placebo - Sigur Ros (not 100% sure about this lot) - The Strokes - Tool if there are any mistakes on this list please correct me. this thread is funny, stupid, pointless, boring, lame and awesome at the same time. but i still enjoyed reading through the entire thing and reading the pathetic arguments people had against radiohead. for me there's only a handful of things i dislike about radiohead. for the benefit of those of you who are intellectually disadvantaged i will put it in point form - thoms lyrics are at times all over the place and illogical - most of their music really only has one mood and thats depressing - besides thom the rest of the band lack any sort of personality - they're nothing special live on stage - haven't toured australia in 5yrs ie no respect for fans - their arrogance doesn't bother me too much but it would be nice if they weren't like that this is coming from someone who owns every radiohead record, dozens of bootlegs, every dvd and can basically recite the tracklisting of any album (except pablo) at request.

the fact that people are still falling in love with albums like The Bends and OK Computer just shows you how timeless and brilliant their music is. as much as i love coldplay now and have for the last 5yrs. i dont see myself listening to them all that much in 15 or 20yrs time. is there anyway of keeping count of how many people have confessed becoming radiohead fans on this thread. there's been at least a dozen or so in the past month alone.

^^ people find it hard to accept it when bands make a drastic change to their sound. they reject the album simply because its not like their early work. in the case of the killers alot of the backlash had to do with the fact that the band no longer possessed the fist pumping energetic indie rock they had on their first two records. but that was not the reason i disliked it, for me it had more to do with the lack of musicianship on the album. with the first 2 i was really impressed by the guitar riffs and drum work but with Day&Age i heard almost none of that rather it was replaced by extra instruments and over the top production. nonetheless brandon pulls off a great vocal performance.

its very interesting to see where they are most popular. ironically they have enjoyed minimal success in australia, rather their label mates The Presets have dominated the dance/techno scene for the last 15 months and in my opinion are the superior band. on the other hand Cut Copy have been very very well received in the UK and Europe and growing popularity in north america. i think that has alot to do with the fact that cut copy have more of a european vibe about them whereas The Presets sound alot more aussie with alot of rock influence. personally i thought In Ghost Colours was a tad too long and those 1min tracks were trivial and superfluous. but still i think i put it at No.9 on my list of favourite albums of 2008. for the record i put The Presets Apocolypso at No.3.

i don't see whats so bad about a song that makes u go to sleep. parachutes makes me go to sleep yet its one of my favourite albums. personally i think music should be relaxing and i often use my favourite albums to help me get to sleep. and i think Kid A took me about 8 or 9 listens to realise how good it was. it wasnt until i realised that it was an 'anti-rock' album that i appreciated its brilliance.

Howling Bells - Radio Wars very much like their half decent debut but better production and cleaner vocals and with a hint of tehno. personally i havent enjoyed the album too much, it does have its moments but for the most part its a weak sophomore album.

do you guys think that the Josh Homme influence will lead to a slightly heavier album this year. i cant remember the last band to get heavier as they go on in their careers. most bands go the opposite way, getting lighter/softer with every record.

i preferred the original version of the song (GWB) i thought she over did the swearing on the album version. but still one of the best songs on the album. but for me its more of a "sometimes" album that i might put on once in a while just to get my pop fix cos there is little doubting she is one of the most talented lyricist in the pop scene.

Ed is about 195cm tall. so from that video im guessing thom is about 170 to 175. thats why u rarely ever see thom standing close to ed on stage

ive been quite amazed at the criticial acclaim the album has received. it got album of the week in most major music mags down here in aus. its nice to know that people in the music scene appreciate her for her music not her celebrity status. she's doing a small promo tour down here this coming week then she comes back in june for a proper tour.

^^ to answer your question. we have no idea and never do, thats the exciting thing about radiohead. every album is unique and wildly different to the previous or for that matter anything they've done in the past. they gave us little tastes of new work in soundchecks during their last tour but i think we'll get a better insight into what the boys have been upto over christmas on their upcoming latin america tour starting in 2 weeks. they're never afraid to test out new material on the road. i'm sure you guys have talked about this earlier in the thread. but have you noticed how radiohead release albums in lots of 3. you had pablo bends and OK within 4 years of each other and had a similar sound (well by their standards). then a 3yr break then kid a amnesiac and hail within 3yrs with a heavy electronic influence. then another break of almost 5 years and now in rainbows with another album not too far away. just a little observation hehe

would i be right in saying that it is unanimous amongst radiohead fans that thom's solo version of Videotape is much better than the full band version? i think thats one change they should make in the future ie. have thom do Videotape solo

well i was sooo excited with the prospect of hearing new stuff i thought the tour started mid feb not march!!! silly me. i actually would love to hear the band do slight variations of the songs. i know they sound amazing just as they are on the albums but i want the band to truly showcase their genius status and maybe perform slightly modified versions of some classic songs. in regards to new songs. anything more than 2 or 3 will keep my satisfied.

i've been listening to the record alot through the week and its a really nice album if listened to at the right time and place. its suited alot more to driving around or on your way to a party with a group of friends. not exactly the kick back and listen type. but at least they did what they said they would and that is make a dance rock album and they've done a mighty fine job of that. but listening to it without any preconceptions i just found too many very very stupid moments that sounded completely out of place and somewhat absurd. maybe in the context of a concept its ok but otherwise.....a big no no

another thing common between the bands is how front-heavy both their albums are (best songs at the start then gets worse as it goes) maybe its just a thing with these psychadelic pop bands. personally i prefer their regular gigs with Sleepy Jackson and Pnau
