VLVODAAHF VS In Rainbows
I know this is all just opinion, and I'd never say there's something wrong with liking Radiohead. But, I guess what I really can't figure out is why there's such a strong correlation between Coldplay fans and Radiohead fans. I do like a few of Radiohead's songs, but they all seem completely different from any of Coldplay's songs. It's as if all Coldplay fans were also huge fans of country music for no apparent reason. Even ignoring all the things I like about Coldplay and dislike about Radiohead, the difference between them is like night and day. But they must be similar somehow... And I know you aren't trying to convert me, but there are always some fans who think anyone that doesn't like their band must be crazy...they'll show up soon enough. :P

Random Coldplay thoughts...
I skipped over the part about that being a dream, and didn't even realize that probably didn't really happen until reading the note at the beginning. I'm way too gullible. :laugh3: Also...a while back I went to a mini-golf course with my family; they usually have awful music blaring loudly out of speakers all around the course, and pretty much every messed-up shot gets blamed on the music. But that time, just as we were starting the first hole, Yellow came on. :D And even though no one there except me knew about Coldplay at the time, no one complained even once about that song; it was great. Plus, while Yellow was running my ball got hit by one of those swinging pole things, bounced around, and stopped dead right next to the hole...but still under the pole, with it swinging around missing it by a couple millimeters. :inquisitive:

What color eyes do you have?
This thread has 7 times as many posts as poll votes...:P Mine are green, which is weird, but green eyes work well for being a Coldplay fan. ;) I think brown eyes comes from a dominant gene, which would explain why so many people have them...

VIVA la bebo (funny check it out)
:laugh3: But shouldn't it be Viva El Bebo? :P

The best line on each LP?
Hard to pick just one, but here's some of my (weird) favorites: Parachutes: Oh, all that I know, there's nothing here to run from...cause yeah, everybody here's got somebody to lean on. (Don't Panic) AROBTTH: Bridges will break, should I go forwards or backwards? (A Whisper) X&Y: Some things, you have to believe...but others are puzzles, puzzling me. (Speed of Sound) VLVODAAHF: Those who are dead are not dead, they're just living in my head...and since I fell for that spell, I am living there as well... (42)

The Goldrush Lyrics
They were planning to do that, but Will's been singing "Death Will Never Conquer" at the concerts instead; as far as I know they haven't played or released any recording of The Goldrush yet. But they did release the lyrics, so maybe they will soon! ;) I can't really scan the program properly since the thing is so huge, but here's a couple of pages (most of them, anyway): Lyrics page with The Goldrush Lovers in Japan page

VLVODAAHF VS In Rainbows
Well yeah, I just can't figure out why so many people have such weird taste. :P And I can explain why I like Coldplay so much, in much clearer terms than Radiohead fans usually use: 1. Most of their songs have meaningful, intelligent lyrics. 2. I can understand what the singer is singing most of the time. 3. Their songs aren't jam-packed full of awful electronic noise or computerized voice modification. 4. The songs don't have enormous volume variation intended to blast your eardrums apart. 5. The instrumental parts of the songs actually sound good, with well-chosen melodies and instruments. 6. The lead singer has plenty of emotion but never sounds irrationally furious. And so on. For me at least, Radiohead fails all of these except maybe #4, and has lots of bonus anti-features. But maybe I'm just too picky. :\ This is why I find this so perplexing...I completely disagree with almost everything you said. For me, the lead singer's voice is by far the worst part of Radiohead; I might actually like some of their songs if it was different. I just forced myself to try listening to "Karma Police" again, and like all their songs, the singer has no emotion that I can detect. The lyrics are pretty much always a blend of horror and dejectedness, making it hard for me to like them no matter what they're supposed to be about. The twists and turns do make their songs interesting, but besides "Paranoid Android," the songs of theirs I've heard don't have any. They may have changed their songs somewhat over time, but I hate their old songs just as much as their new ones, so I'd guess their core style hasn't really changed. So...yeah. As long as they don't wipe out Coldplay, you can have your Radiohead, but don't try to convert me; it won't work. :P

VLVODAAHF VS In Rainbows
Here's a question for all you Radiohead superfans, because it sounds like there's a lot of you here: Why do you like their music so much? Because, honestly, I could name a dozen reasons why I can't stand most of their songs. (Which I probably shouldn't do to avoid a flamewar.) But everyone else seems to love everything Radiohead's ever made, for really vague or unstated reasons. Why? What's so great about it? I see glowing reviews everywhere, including here; then I try listening to any of their popular songs and just hear a bunch of non-rhythmic noise and some guy screeching incomprehensibly. No way would I ever pay money for that. So why does pretty much everyone else? Seriously...if someone has a good explanation for why they like them, please tell me. This is mind-bogglingly illogical.

VLVODAAHF VS In Rainbows
VLV...sorry Radiohead fans, but 90% of their songs give me a headache, and In Rainbows is no exception. Tell me when they start making music without calculated dissonance. :\

The Goldrush Lyrics
:D Unfortunately, no, it doesn't. I guess they didn't think the lyrics were important for that one, or maybe they just didn't fit. :\ It does have them for Reign of Love, though, and that one's pretty hard to understand, too: Could be...it does talk about Prospekt(or) and a lot of marching. ;) I might do a scan of it later, though the page with the lyrics isn't that interesting...just a black background and gold text. Plus, I'm not sure my scanner's big enough. :P

The Goldrush Lyrics
Sorry if this is already up somewhere, but I couldn't find it. They've been selling "tour program" things at the concerts, which have (among other things) the lyrics for all VLVODAAHF songs...and also the mysterious song "The Goldrush", which apparently isn't the same as "Death Will Never Conquer" at all. If you don't have a program yet and can't wait, here's the lyrics according to it: And yes, that word in the fourth line is spelled exactly how they spelled it. ;) (My first thread, yay!)

Concert Merchandise
Viva la fatherhood? :laugh3: (They really do have bibs; there's one in that picture above, near the boxes on the left.) I just got one of the "tour program" things, which doesn't actually have a program or schedule, but instead has lots of nice (and huge!) pictures and artwork-things...plus all the lyrics to everything on VLVODAAHF. :D It also has lyrics for The Goldrush, so apparently that wasn't turned into Death Will Never Conquer after all. Maybe Will decided to sing that one instead because it has his name in it. :P

Global Warming: Is The Debate Over?
Oh boy, it's the old "global warming is bogus/a hoax/etc." thing again...I'd better keep this short because otherwise it will be very, very long. Main thing is, the Earth's temperature has been rising more quickly in the past few decades than in any other period recorded in the tens of thousands of years of ice core data. Don't try to tell me there's not something odd about that. And the start of this sudden increase matches up perfectly with the Industrial Revolution; hard to believe that's a coincidence. Higher temperatures mean there's more energy in the atmosphere, probably causing more hurricanes and other storms; the sudden change in energy can also mess up established systems, shuffling around the distriubution of rain, which is obviously bad for farming and water collecting (this has already happened in some places). We can't predict exactly what may happen, but sudden, random change is usually bad. As for this: Not to sound like I'm bragging, but I went to a showing of Gore's movie at NASA a while back, where they had a bunch of climate scientists to criticize it and let the audience ask questions about it. Pretty much the only complaint they had was that he sometimes glossed over things in his graphs that weren't really relevant anyway. None of them questioned the main points. And there were no "stupid media" people involved there, as far as I know. There's plenty of pseudoscience in this debate, but most of it's on the "no global warming" side; they always ignore the main data or distort it, attack things that sound far more important than they really are, and so on. Go to a moon hoax site; their arguments are surprisingly convincing, until you hear the scientific counterarguments that tear them to shreds. Don't ignore the vast majority of scientists just because a few of them are really persuasive. ...Sorry if that was rantlike, but I'm getting really tired of seeing stuff like this.

Dunno about this show, but they did use green lasers at the San Jose show the other day...I don't think it was during Clocks though. :\

THE **I LOVE HARRY POTTER** THREAD
 I'm not sure I could pick a favorite book, since it all seems like one story...but the time travel stuff in Prisoner of Azkaban is fun. :D Why does everyone like the Goblet of Fire movie so much, though? I couldn't believe how much stuff they cut out of it! They skipped the entire Quidditch match! :veryangry: :P

Energy crisis solved?
The solar panels don't have to be on the car if it has a big battery, or a hydrogen fuel cell engine. But you do have to make sure the electricity/hydrogen didn't come from burning coal or something. I still think batteries work better, though, even if you have to throw them away eventually; at least they don't need rare minerals like platinum to work well enough. And pure electricity is much faster and cleaner to transport than hydrogen.

17-Jul-08 - KROQ show at Jessica's house
That picture is just begging for a caption contest. Chris and Guy both look like they just saw something very upsetting, but Johnny seems to think it's funny. What could it be...? :wink3:

Yeah; it's one they left off the latest album. You can download it on coldplay.com, but the live version is better...plus Will sings it. :D

Courtney Loves Spills About Chris and Gwyn's homelife
:laugh3: No wonder she apparently didn't consider that they might not want her to describe their home life in a blog...she sounds amazingly self-centered.

Butterfly Confetti
In my infinite geekiness, I noticed something kinda odd about the butterfly-confetti-things...it looks like there's at least 2 kinds. Two of the ones I have here are smooth and plasticky, but the other two are rough and papery, and also partly transparent. Was this for a lighting effect, or something?

Energy crisis solved?
The thing about hydrogen fuel cells is that they aren't an energy source at all, they're just elaborate, expensive, inefficient batteries. There isn't much pure hydrogen on Earth, and producing it takes a lot of energy. That energy could come from solar panels, but it's much easier to just put energy from solar panels in regular batteries. Fuel cells are a big waste of resources in the short term, and probably not that helpful in the long term...but they still get a lot of attention for some reason. :(

18-Jul-08: San Jose - Tickets, Preview, Meetups, Review/Photos [ORIGINAL DATE 7/24]
Just got back, and of course, it was AWESOME. :D Every song sounded amazing, even Fix You, which I normally can't stand. I managed a few pictures with my awful cellphone camera, which I'll upload later if they're actually worth looking at.

Favorite and least favorite songs on each album?
(In case the emoticons make no sense, the first ones are the favorites, and the second ones are the least favorites.) Parachutes:  = Spies  = Shiver AROBTTH: :D = A Whisper (actually it's Clocks, but I think this one deserves a plus-vote, and it's my second favorite on that one anyway.) = Green Eyes X&Y: :o = White Shadows  = Fix You VLVODAAHF: :guitarist: = 42 :inquisitive: = Chinese Sleep Chant

Wow, I actually got last-minute tickets! :D Kinda behind the stage up in section 217, but way better than nothing. Seems like I joined the fandom with perfect timing. :P
