  1. Relative to other CHristmas videos I still stand by my original remark. It avoided cheese IMO, whilst being stylish at the same time. I like the old pop-up storybook feel the stage has, and the nostalgic feel to all the items and their smart dress. Typical Coldplay style.
  2. Well we are the few 100 harcore fans, even if some of us have bought early I don't think it will affect the overall grand scheme of things. The main thing is word of mouth to get others aware who are not such dedicated fans - casual fans or people who like the song. There's plenty of time between now and 12th December - get Tweeting/ Facebooking!
  3. Well they've always used a backing track for VLV haven't they? I can't remember the strings being performed live once? (perhaps something for a future date!)
  4. Pretty much what you've said but I think Chris will sing live. Take a look at the clip above for VLV 2008 and tell me it's not live! :)
  5. LOL, I didn't intend to coin a phrase. I can see it know, "i think they're one of those odd people who don't like Coldplay, you know the type, those that hate Christmas as well!"
  6. If at least all of us on the boat - 100 of us - not mention other Coldplayers use the social media sites like Facebook, Twitter etc, we could get some momentum to get this song number 1. Two things : 1. We all need to buy this track from Sunday 12th December to Saturday 18th December to make it count for Christmas no 1 sales. Buying it now does NOT help! 2. Not everyone likes COldplay (I know wierd people with bad taste :) ). So be careful who you target, no Coldplay-haters pls.
  7. After nearly 24 hours just realised what it is that has made it special- the intro especially and the nostalgic feel of the video gives you a nice, warm fuzzy feeling like Christmases of old - I'm thinking like watching an old 1940's Christmas Hollywood film. It gives you a nice warm feeling, that Christmas was once special. It feels so again. :)
  8. I got tickets too! Coldplay karma is really working for me recently. Are we gonna meetup somewhere before doors open ?
  9. It will, but let's hope it doesn't peak too soon with people buying it too early!
  10. It's a beautiful song. When I first heard it on the boat I immediately thought "old Coldplay" because of the piano and the prominence of Chris' vocals. Then I realised that the boat speakers muffled the strings, which are a beautiful addition, but do not detract from the piano or vocals. In a way I love it because it's the best of 'old' and 'new' Coldplay combined, with the production done in a nice subtle way (I think some tracks on Viva La Vida were a little overproduced, Lost! being a good example - whereas I love Lost?)
  11. I'm a fan of the Killlers but I didn't like their Chrismas single at all.
  12. Hey Jilliy I can make you out in the video in your red coat! I purchased the video from iTunes this evening. It really is one the most stylish videos I have seen in a long time, but then should we expect anything less from opur favourite band? I'm saving my purchase for the single until week commencing Sunday 12th though - I advise others in the UK to do the same if they want it to be Christmas no 1!
  13. Jezz - are the hackers at it again?
  14. I saw the video for Christmas lights earlier and I think it's one of the most beautiful videos I have seen. This has really made Christmas magic for me again! :)
  15. Here's a solution then - tell them to buy the VIDEO this evening, and the SINGLE the week cmmencing 12th December - 18th December!
  16. Yes - shall we put up a STICKY reminder for everyone in CAPS !?
  17. Article up with odds to become Christmas no 1: see: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/music/rockandpopfeatures/8174444/Christmas-singles-2010-What-will-be-Christmas-No.-1.html Coldplay are 20/1 and the bookies favourite is the cover of White Christmas by Bryn Terfel @ 16/1 However, they did not count on the support of Coldplayers! We need a concerted effort by everyone to boost sales in readiness for week commencing 12th December in the UK
  18. Cheers Angie Trust you made it back through US customs with your balloon OK? (or you wouldn't be posting now :) )
  19. That's the bit I'm not sure of. I always thought it was sales from Sunday - Saturday for that week that counted for the following week, announced Sunday. If it was soley culmulative sales surely the Beatles would always be no 1! Therefore those wanting to help to get Coldplay to the Christmas no. 1 slot may be better waiting until 12th - 18 December until they buy this track? (Christmas no 1. will be announced on Sunday 19th December this year.) Anyone from the UK know better?
  20. LOL cool. I wasn't sure how cumulative (rather than time limited - ie. weekly sales) worked. I remember when Viva La Vida was originally released on iTunes first, weren't the digital sales discounted until the physical (CD) copy was launched?
  21. Great idea! In the digital age - how do stats for the Christmas number 1 works. I.e. do downloaded tracks from early December contribute cumulatively ?
  22. Does anyone know if that was the director- Matt on the stairs in that shot?
  23. Does anyone know how the Daily Mail got their scoop on the story.... Was it a leak from the authorities with whom Coldplay needed permission to shoot? (I'm guessing they needed permission for a stage on the South Bank and a boat moored in the THames for nearly 3 hours in one place). Or was it just good detective work by a pap?
  24. I remember reading Southampton is the UK's (mainland) official sunspot! So no wonder no snow down there... is it sunny? I agree with you about the video shoot... did u get to see the lads afterwards?
  25. Yeah, that jacket of yours is looking a little manky and worn Jack! :P I loved the Viva era outfits too: 18th century revolution gear was well cool in my book.
