The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
For a song that lasts only 1:42, this song is pretty good. Oh wait, there's 3 minutes that came before?

Bloc Party
My verdict is basically "Mediocre but sucks less than Intimacy".

Mylo Xyloto or Viva la Vida?
Only half of Viva sucked. So yeah, Viva was way better. :laugh3:

Frank Ocean cancels tour with Coldplay
I don't blame Frank. I wouldn't want to have to hear "Paradise" every night either. :P

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
I don't love it, but it's far from the worst thing they've done. Heck, it's probably the best song they've put out since 2009. (in other words, that's just a nice way of me saying "This song doesn't completely suck like Prague, Survival, and Neutron Star Collision.") I'm glad the rest of the album isn't like this, but I much prefer this "experimentation" of original sounds rather than trying to mimic Queen for the billionth time.

By all means, I should hate this song with every fiber of my being. But I don't. :stunned:

Bloc Party
Saw these guys last week. A mixed performance overall, but the new stuff sounds pretty good (in fact, it's now leaked haha). Back to the post-punk basics, which is great since I hated Intimacy. Took this video of one of the newbies: [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wgnka7dKtKc&feature=plcp]Bloc Party - Team A - Live at HARD Summer Festival - Los Angeles, CA 8/3/12 - YouTube[/ame]

The National Top 15 songs lists - Voting
Well shit, I said I'd submit one and I didn't. :P Oddly, none of these include my #1 favorite ("Ada"), so I'll vote List D, even though I wish it had a SSFDL song on it.

Grizzly Bear...
Calling it now - 2012 album of the year.

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
I am seeing them for the first time tomorrow. I will confirm or deny that report. But I haven't heard promising things either. As long as they still play "Silvia", I think I won't complain much. I enjoy what I've heard of Spector, but even The Vaccines were doing that same thing just a year before. Hey, as far as I'm concerned, they filter out the idiots at music festivals away from the stages where real bands play. (downside being that many festivals now sell out quickly because people ONLY want to see DJ's click their iTunes all day)

Actually, I agreed with you on all the albums you listed (except maybe Contra) but I also provided some examples of albums that exceeded expectations. The different between now and the Nirvana era is that no revolution in rock is taking place. The early 90's saw alt rock first take shape, the early 00's saw the breakout of "indie" groups, and yet the most significant thing we're seeing today is the fusion of rock with other genres that are "in" right now, specifically electronic. Hence why rock/synth hybrids like M83 and Miike Snow are making a big splash, while existing rock bands like Muse and Death Cab are incorporating more electronic sounds into their music than before. The Skrillexes and Deadmau5's of the world are taking over with their fancy iPads. Rock is still thriving but also having to double-dip a bit.

And the album release date probably got pushed back because they didn't want to compete with the Grizzly Bear and Band of Horses album releases that day, and the No Doubt album the following week. ;)

Bon Iver s/t, Helplessness Blues, Wasting Light, Ceremonials, Wounded Rhymes, Circuital, Let England Shake, Strange Mercy, and Bloom are all arguably either the best or among the best by their respective bands. All released in the last year-and-a-half. Many of the British acts have dropped the ball, though, which is an anomaly. I'm not hearing good things about the TDCC album either. (I'm surprised you didn't mention that new Miike Snow album. Biggest disappointment of the year for me so far.)

Concerts/Artists you have seen/Are planning to see
They're two complete opposite ends of the live experience spectrum, but they're both among the best at what they do on those ends. I like Muse more, but they're just now kicking off a tour that will probably go on for like a year-and-a-half, while Sigur Ros shows are a bit more elusive.

Arctic Monkeys!
Here in the U.S., we are only shown an edited and cut-down version of the opening ceremony (happens every Olympics and it's irritating), so only a small part of "Dancefloor" was shown, and the announcers were talking over "Come Together" the entire time. Disappointing, especially since almost no one here has heard of Arctic Monkeys, and this would have been a perfect method of exposure for them. Luckily, I am a very plugged-in individual who streamed the full performance though an illegal source. :P As for the ceremony itself, it's funny, most of my American friends on FB and Twitter thought it was incredible and exceeded that of Beijing. Yet some of my UK friends were all like "We're so lame, Beijing was better!" :laugh3: Funny how that works out, but I guess the self-cynicism thing is true. We're also cynical about ourselves, if it's any consolation.

I WON A MEET AND GREET!!
Congrats! While I've never met Coldplay, I've met other bands of similar size that I really admire, and my biggest piece of advice is not to think too hard about what you'll say or how you'll look. Obviously you don't want to look like a crazy fan (i.e. don't go crazy talking about how many photos are on your wall or how many tattoos you have :laugh3:), but the more you try to "rehearse" the encounter in your head, the more nervous you will get. Bring an item to get signed if they allow it, and otherwise, just let it be spontaneous. :)

Respect Please...
It's not Coldplay's fault that security somehow missed that behemoth in your bag when you were entering the doors. Heck, this has nothing to do with Coldplay whatsoever. I cannot think of ONE SINGLE BAND or ONE SINGLE VENUE that allows detachable-lens cameras (unless you have photo pit credentials, obviously, and even then you only get 2 or 3 songs to shoot). Either you haven't tried taking that to very many concerts, or you've just gotten unbelievably lucky weaseling that thing by security every time in spite of very clear statements by venues prohibiting anything with a lens longer than a couple inches. The term "professional cameras" is vague, but pretty much any DSLR or even really high-end point-and-shoots with lengthy lenses are going to be prohibited. Don't risk it. Yes, it sucks that you got kicked out after you paid all that money. But it's also completely fair of them to do.

As someone who's modded forums with a similar format to CPing before, there's usually not like a huge convenient index you can pull up of everyone who has matching IP addresses. You have to be suspicious of someone in particular and look up what their matches are.

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Wait, where was the attack on Radiohead fans again? Look, I'm not really into conspiracies, but the fact that user has only 20 posts in over 8 years and has posted only in this thread and just to bash Muse makes me think it's just someone's alternate account they use for shits and giggles.

Concerts/Artists you have seen/Are planning to see
Okay, my itinerary is now pretty full, about back up to where it was this time last year. Which comes after my first gig-less July since 2007. Don't anticipate it getting much more crowded: Aug 3: Bloc Party, Miike Snow, Little Dragon Aug 13: The Kills Sep 2-3: FYF Fest (Beirut, M83, Refused, Yeasayer, Sleigh Bells, etc.) Sep 12: My Morning Jacket w/ Iron & Wine (suddenly in jeopardy because of my schedule) Sep 13: Silversun Pickups w/ School of Seven Bells Sep 15: Austra Oct 7: Florence and the Machine w/ The Maccabees Oct 9: Metric Oct 12-14: Austin City Limits (RHCP, Jack White, Neil Young, Black Keys, Florence, etc.) Oct 18: Stars

The Muse Thread - Hate This & I'll Hate You
Wait, who else in this thread said that about Radiohead fans? I know in the Coldplay sections they say that shit, but I'm pretty sure I'd have warped through their computer screen and punched them in their most sensitive areas by now for saying that in the Muse thread.

As far as I'm concerned, there are only two balls in Muse, and they both belong to Chris.

Florence + The Machine
Breaking Down's not a single, though. They just threw together this cute montage to it. Spectrum is reportedly the final single, so I doubt we'll be seeing more videos. Which is fine with me, since 4 singles per album is plenty.
