  1. If I was a Keane fan years ago but not much of one anymore, does that make me an acquaintance instead of a stranger? :laugh3:
  2. Yep. Says so in the file itself. Really not sure why the hell they wouldn't release the actual full version because it gives a lot of false impressions.
  3. I'm not a huge fan of it either, but then again, it's a radio edit, and radio edits have a tendency to suck the soul out of songs. I'll await a full version.
  4. Check their website. It's free for 24 hours. You have like 18 hours left.
  5. But at least the xx are good. :P (okay, sorry, couldn't resist that one)
  6. Showbiz has many shades of Radiohead. I think I even said recently in this very thread that the main flaw of Showbiz is that it tries way too hard to be The Bends and OK Computer. Several songs on it sound like a crappy versions of "My Iron Lung". Starting at OoS, Muse forms their own identity, and they certainly don't sound like Radiohead at all in their recent work, but that first album has a huge influence present.
  7. It's not just you. People are complaining everywhere. They play a 1,000 capacity venue here for $45 in a few days (for comparison, I paid $30 to see Kasabian at that same venue, and have paid as low as $20 for other acts there), and they just announced a fall return date at a larger venue for well more than that.
  8. Granted, U2 had one of the most complex stadium stages of all time. Most bands who play stadiums don't go to the ridiculous lengths that U2 did. From what I've seen of Coldplay's set-up, it's basically a bunch of fancy circular screens and doesn't require a full week of preparation before the show. Honestly, I know some of you are going to cock your eyebrow and say "How's that possible?", but I think Coldplay played TOO MANY shows here in 2009. I think their arena shows in 2008 did really well, but in 2009, they played every amphitheater in every backwater town in North America, so the attendance was spread out more. But in the big city markets I listed, though, I'm pretty sure they had no problem selling shows out.
  9. I'll give you that one - B&H is an exceptional title, just because it's not actually a line in the song and actually has a deeper meaning. In fact, I find the only times a song title stands out is in those cases. TOADA, Megalomania, and MK Ultra are other good examples. Of course, not being able to hear The 2nd Law's songs yet, we have no idea what songs that rule will be applicable to yet. So I still don't see the point in speculating.
  10. Song titles mean nothing, guys. I thought "Undisclosed Desires" was a cool name. I ended up hating that song. Seriously, once you hear a song, who really gives a second thought of how its name sounds?
  11. Coldplay has been playing multiple nights per city in arenas, most of which selling out promptly. They sold out on the Viva tour too, but most weren't multiple nights in the same city. I don't think they could pull off a FULL stadium tour of North America, especially since already they covered most major cities on the arena tour, but they can definitely sell out a quick run of stadiums in LA, NYC, Chicago, Toronto, Boston, Dallas, Atlanta, Denver, SF, and Vancouver. Those are the 10 big markets that spring to mind.
  12. For almost any show in an arena, it's floor or bust for me. But Coldplay is an exception because of their dumb "seats on the floor" policy in North America. Being in a floor seat anywhere farther back than the very front section is an awful, awful experience. You can't see a thing, you can't move from your seat, and because everyone is restricted by seats too, nobody can dance around, making for lifeless crowds. At least in elevated seating areas, you can ACTUALLY SEE THE BAND. Now, I'm just going from experience from the Viva shows and haven't seen any MX shows, but paying $125 for a floor seat in 2009 that was only probably 1/3 of the way back turned out to be one of my most miserable concert experiences ever. Total waste of money. Couldn't see a damn thing. And I'm NOT short, mind you. Being in the lower-most raised section at a show in 2008 was a way better show for me.
  13. Yawn. Just as much of a snoozer as Day and Age and Brandon's solo material.
  14. Only time I've ever had a point-and-shoot turned away was actually a Coldplay gig back in 2008. But I've seen bands at that same venue since and have had no problem, so I think the "rules" of consumer vs. professional cameras has been more solidified in the years since.
  15. Don't count on it. Artists setting their own rules for cameras usually means "yes, cameras are allowed" or "no, we don't allow any photography". That's it. Otherwise you are at the mercy of venue security. Almost every venue - especially arenas - will NOT allow you to bring your DSLR. Trust me, don't bring it.
  16. It's actually a song that gets a whole lot of love, and I've never been sure why. The acoustic version is infinitely better, yes, but even pre-MX, I always thought "Lost" contained some of the worst lyrics Chris Martin has ever written. "You might be a big fish in a little pond"? REALLY? It's also a bland song instrumentally, even if it's one of the few post-AROBTTH songs to give Jonny a decent solo opportunity. Okay, here's my list, which I might as well just encase in spoiler tags for both length and whining purposes. :laugh3: No, I don't know why I'm still on this forum either. :P
  17. I mean it's fascinating to see songs listed when this thread was posted in 2003 that no one would dare put on their lists today (except maybe "A Whisper"). Just interesting to compare. No one's saying "1.36" or "Murder" is their best song by a longshot or anything, but they're not really ones people bring up these days when criticizing the band's work.
  18. Even once you finally love Radiohead, new material still has to grow on you. OK Computer is probably one of the more accessible albums to begin with, though.
  19. Damn this is an interesting first 2 pages to read 9 years later.
  20. I refer to Wolf Gang as a "him". Kind of like how I refer to Beirut or Bright Eyes as "him" rather than "them" because I like getting super technical like that, I guess.

Obviously an exaggeration on my part, since Coldplay fills stadiums, but Robyn's huge. She shouldn't have to open for a band who's not even of the same genre. Hell, she headlined some of the same venues in the U.S. last year that Coldplay is currently playing. Also, I'm shocked to see how many people here had never heard of her before. She's only been releasing wildly popular albums since...before Coldplay even existed as a band.
  22. I haven't seen any MX shows and I probably won't, but I went to multiple Viva shows and it was largely about theatrics too. Good shows, mind you, and I never thought they felt rushed, and the backdrop was pretty simple, but there was still flashy stuff like the confetti or the fire sparklers. Like I said, though, I have no freaking idea what the MX set-up is like, but I remember the Viva shows crammed all the past hits (Clocks, Yellow, Speed of Sound, Fix You) in at the beginning, which I thought was playing the trump cards way too early on.
  23. Corkus replied to Boreas's topic in The World Of Music
Coldplay should be opening for Robyn, not the other way around.
  24. As much as I like Showbiz, it tries way hard to be OK Computer. Muse hasn't had much Radiohead in them since, but that first effort's haunted them critic-wise. Showbiz the song, though, is a top 5 for me.
  25. Darkshines and TIRO? Damn, even if you don't like those songs, they certainly don't deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as those other 3 trainwrecks. :laugh3: Prague, Guiding Light, Neutron Star Collision, Invincible, Overdue, Sober, Pink Ego Box, Undisclosed Desires Those are the Muse tracks I flat-out hate. I was tempted to include Survival in the list, but I held off because I want to hear how it sounds live first.
